Newcastle and Spurs are flying to fucking AUSTRALIA at the end of the season to play a friendly but they can’t play fucking replays because of fixture congestion.
Honestly, it’s all so ridiculous that it’s almost laughable.

Glad to see all rounds back to weekends but the most straightforward way to reduce fixture congestion would be for Premier League clubs not to enter the League Cup.

I love how those in charge of English football proclaim to care about the football pyramid while at the same time scrapping important lifelines for smaller clubs.

This is disgraceful and a real kick in the balls of EFL clubs. Quote "The changes come as part of a new six-year agreement between the Football Association (FA) and the Premier League."…so what about EFL, don’t they have a say? The paltry extra £33m provided to grass roots football represents the salary of 2 or 3 top PL players, what about those EFL & lower league clubs that often get a financial lifeline from FA Cup replays, it’s fucking immoral. So Klipperty Klopp has his final swan song, now piss off to Saudi where nobody will take any notice of your crass stupidity you cretin.

This. As I’ve said before, this brain dead idiot should go and join Wenger in his home for needy where they can walk together in the mornings around a lake and reminisce about how they’ve fucked up English football. That way they will not miss their afternoon knap.

I absolutely appreciate and agree it sounds like another finger in the eye for the lower placed sides and more power to the PL clubs but, in reality, who gains what from replays and how many are there really that end up as money spinners for the lower ranked sides? Is it something that's probably died a death anyway? It feels like a lot of the time, upsets happen in the first game wherever it's played anyway.

The point is that if a lower league team muscles out a draw against a prem team, they will benefit from either a sell of their own stadium or a lucrative away day (that their fans will also love). So its about ££ not the likelihood of an upset.

If that is the case, then I would suggest the way to make that fair is that it's played wherever the biggest financial gain is for the lower ranked side. Or, regardless of where it's played, they get all of the gate receipts and not just a share.

Funny how the FA cup gets clipped, but we have an increase in European games. As normal, the powers that be don`t give a shit about the fans. All about the project, the revenue , to all you that run football, just fuck off.

Get what you’re saying but isn’t this all about PL teams fixture congestion? There are many ways to reduce this, we lose at least 3 weekends to pointless international friendlies that could be binned or clubs take the hit as they used to do or reducing the number of European Clubs entering competitions. Binning PL clubs out of the league cup is another way. But we all know that such ideas are futile and fall on PL deaf ears because it will reduce their income ….but hey fuck over 75% of the other English professional clubs. As for who gains from replays…well just ask Exeter City, Oxford Utd, Bristol City & Rovers and other EFL clubs who have gained from FA cup replays at PL venues. To agree this change without EFL input is as morally corrupt as the PL, so real surprise.

If lower league clubs are relying on a luck of the draw one off game for their finance that shows it is a rotten system. Replays don't make sense in modern football and the pyramid needs to find a more financial sustainable way of sustaining smaller sides than essentially gambling on a cup run. Forcing bigger sides to play away from home or share more of the gate receipt with lower league sides would be a start

What is it with people that run football? We have the best league system in the world, the FA Cup, IMO is the best cup competition in the world, yet, the suits that run football always seem hell bent on destroying it. I hope government intervention sorts things out. it`s about time the voice of the fans was listened to. As folk have already said, the FA cup is a lifeline for small clubs, they can`t wait for the draw hoping for one of the big clubs and take them to a replay. It`s what football is, or was sadly.

If the money is that great for any potential big replays, then something absolutely needs to be done - my suggestion would be the games are played at the bigger ground (however the game is drawn) to get the bigger gate and the small club gets the gate receipts. The likelihood of winning probably lessens for the smaller club, but would the possible gate receipts make up for that?

It's all to suite the top 4 basically Of course it is. It must be a hell of an inconvenience for them having to go to a replay after being held by a team 2 divisions lower.

Deny the smaller clubs a chance to play at Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge so that the already rich big clubs can play more games in Europe

Totally agree about the lifeline element, but it also undermining the integrity of the competition. The first game I ever remembered watching was an FA Cup Final, and it got me hooked on football for life. The competition has such a fantastic history and tradition, but since the PL and Champions League this has been consistently eroded.

Whilst these possible big bonus games have been brilliant for many clubs, they shouldn't have to be reliant on these things, sometimes to stay afloat. It's a greater problem that goes back to the money not being fairy distributed. I agree international friendlies are often pointless, but they'll always be played. It's gotten a bit like cricket - there are that many games and tournaments here, there and everywhere to appease television companies and overseas interests, but little regard for those who actually care and make the game what it is. It is scandalous that this appears to only be a PL decision, and not even mentioned any involvement of any other body. I expect this will kick off quite a bit, if it hasn't already.

Some of the best and most magical games I have been to were FA Cup replays (Man Utd, WHU in the 70s for example) Two of the best Cup Finals were replays Chelsea v Leeds and Spurs v Man City. I just think it undermines the integrity of the competition, the aspirations of fans and what should a valued tradition in our game. and for what? so PL clubs can have more time to spend flying around the globe playing friendlies? and meaningless Champions League games?

Yeah will do what they want, the fa cup is obviously a football association competition and the league (carbao cup) is a football league competition. The fa are closely linked with the premier league so will suit their members or the big 4 or 6 clubs in reality. The efl could say were boycotting the fa cup but again that would suit the big clubs as one of them would be guaranteed to win it if they not already are, then the premier league would boyacott the carbao cup but the efl wouldn't want that as no big glamour ties then so basically the have the efl by the short and curlys shambolic...

That's the issue though...was the 70 s Simply isn't the competition it was FA cup crowds were generally far bigger than average league crowds back then. We would say get 12-14 k for a league game and 2 or 3 k more for a home FA Cup game , boosted by an away following
