Like I said, I didn't really know who was gaining what and to what regularity. If the money is that great for any potential big replays, then something absolutely needs to be done - my suggestion would be the games are played at the bigger ground (however the game is drawn) to get the bigger gate and the small club gets the gate receipts. The likelihood of winning probably lessens for the smaller club, but would the possible gate receipts make up for that? But why change it? It's not just the money, it's the event itself and its impact on fans and their aspirations. Some of the best and most magical games I have been to were FA Cup replays (Man Utd, WHU in the 70s for example) Two of the best Cup Finals were replays Chelsea v Leeds and Spurs v Man City. I just think it undermines the integrity of the competition, the aspirations of fans and what should a valued tradition in our game. and for what? so PL clubs can have more time to spend flying around the globe playing friendlies? and meaningless Champions League games? Not saying I want it to change, I just didn't really know the impact it had in today's terms. Hopefully the lower league clubs and teams of our stature (ideally, the PL clubs would have met it with short shrift to, but haven't) need to outline why it is so important that it's kept as it always has been. Whether they'll take any notice now they've changed it, who knows. Things like the Club World Cup in the middle of the season need to fuck off. I don't see why anyone outside the top 4 would be against anything to be honest. The midtable lot play less games than anyone and teams in The Championship & Leagues One and Two play loads more than those tossers.

Any club that votes for this should be removed from the draw, that way they will have even fewer games to play, which is what they wanted.

We would say get 12-14 k for a league game and 2 or 3 k more for a home FA Cup game , boosted by an away following Yes, good points. Other than these potential big money games for lower league clubs, what about the other ties that aren't so glamorous? How much money is made or lost there? We've had some really beige home draws the past few years against lower league opposition where I imagine it's difficult to turn over any sort of profit. I should imagine costs for the game whether big or small, are relatively fixed. If 20 clubs make a £50,000 loss per round, that cancels out the £1M earned by the possible smaller club. Is that economically efficient? I appreciate a lot of clubs are able to afford to lose money where others can't. I really have no clue as to the costs and the intricacies of all these things, just typing as I go. I would say it feels like the FA cup has had a slight resurgence over the past couple of years, but it's certainly not what it was even 20 years ago.

And we’ve got people on here wishing English clubs well in Europe as apparently its good for the English game
Well here’s your reward for cheering them on and this is what’s happening to the English game
I hope they all get fucked

It's really simple
What all true football fans want is for the top 6 to do well, nothing else matters
As such close down all the other clubs and everyone can watch (on TV) the super club of their choice

And we’ve got people on here wishing English clubs well in Europe as apparently its good for the English game Well here’s your reward for cheering them on and this is what’s happening to the English game I hope they all get fucked One of the reasons I generally don't cheer them on. Sometimes I want then to win (like last night I wanted Man City to beat Real) but usually I hope they lose. For many reasons, not least that they grow into bigger beasts than they already are. I'm not in favour of scraping replays whilst these twats fly off to play friendlies but as devil's advocate I love the idea that there will be more upsets. If lower league teams make it to a replay they invariably get a beating. They have a much better chance on penalties and then hopefully make more money when they get a good tie in the next road of the competition.

Teams get less than 50 % of gate receipts for FA Cup games
Say Crewe were to play Man U at home and pull in 11k k, would make no more if not less money than a league game
Obviously you want a big club away There is TV money of course 125k for televised games and similar money for progressing .
Personally think one off games will make it more exciting and give lesser clubs more of a chance of an upset
It simply doesn't have the draw of 20 odd years ago no matter which way you dress it up.

financially a problem , but if it is to be settled on penalties ..... might have a greater opportunity to progress to next round which will have greater prize money and potentially a lucrative tie ?

To be fair it hasn't been well supported for a long time. They need to do something with the format. Can criticise the big clubs but the money for the smaller clubs is in playing them . FA cup 3rd round day used to be an event, now is Palace away etc in front of an average crowd with weakened sides . Certainly not a money spinner

I don't really see the issue here other than changing tradition. Who wants a replay at the Etihad only to get their arses handed to them by a reserve side in front of 20K?

I absolutely appreciate and agree it sounds like another finger in the eye for the lower placed sides and more power to the PL clubs but, in reality, who gains what from replays and how many are there really that end up as money spinners for the lower ranked sides? Is it something that's probably died a death anyway? It feels like a lot of the time, upsets happen in the first game wherever it's played anyway. The point is that if a lower league team muscles out a draw against a prem team, they will benefit from either a sell of their own stadium or a lucrative away day (that their fans will also love). So its about ££ not the likelihood of an upset. Plus non-league against league opposition can be a big draw for the non-league teams. If lower league clubs are relying on a luck of the draw one off game for their finance that shows it is a rotten system. Replays don't make sense in modern football and the pyramid needs to find a more financial sustainable way of sustaining smaller sides than essentially gambling on a cup run. Forcing bigger sides to play away from home or share more of the gate receipt with lower league sides would be a start If only it wasn't about making the rich richer and the poor poorer, there can still be massive excitement in a non-league or lower league team drawing then getting a replay with a team much higher up the pyramid, whether an away day or at home. David vs Goliath is one of the things that's made English football so great, yet the Goliaths are getting too big. The FA Cup doesn't have the kudos it did 20 years ago, but why is that? It's because of those Goliaths, slowly but surely killing the tradtion and fun...

Glad to see all rounds back to weekends but the most straightforward way to reduce fixture congestion would be for Premier League clubs not to enter the League Cup. That would devalue it!

Unless I'm being blind, there's no mention of it on the Sky Sports site which says it all. I'm not arsed about the FA Cup, or overly worried about changing 'traditions' and I fucking hate FA Cup replays, but it's scandalous that they will make these concessions at the request of the Premier League/top 6. "All rounds of the Emirates FA Cup will also be played on weekends"..."The fourth round will be played in an extended window from Friday to Wednesday." - so all ties will be played as weekend matches, assuming you consider any day from Friday to Wednesday as the weekend

Funny how the FA cup gets clipped, but we have an increase in European games. As normal, the powers that be don`t give a shit about the fans. All about the project, the revenue , to all you that run football, just fuck off. That people need to “run football” is funny to me to be honest. Just have a random fixture generator pop out some dates at the beginning of the year and sod everyone else off. No more rule changes, no more dicking about. Downgrade the legislative body to its absolute minimum and have them purely inspect club finances when needed (something that could probably also be outsourced).

To be frank, I wouldn't give a toss if they scrapped the Carling Cup altogether. It's an absolute nuisance fixture at the start of the season, and it's won by a Premier League team each season anyway. The UEFA Conference League is complete gumf as well. They have some absolutely woeful sides in the Champions League group stages, so why they've added a third tier to their competitions clearly isn't for footballing reasons is it.

Whatever the spin about fixture congestion, you can guarantee the replay fixtures will be replaced with more money making “super Euro” type games that only benefit the top 6.
They are going to substitute with new agendas, rather than solve the (non existent) fixture congestion
The suits that run the league are only interested in one thing and it’s not the smaller clubs or their fans

Newcastle and Spurs are flying to fucking AUSTRALIA at the end of the season to play a friendly but they can’t play fucking replays because of fixture congestion. Honestly, it’s all so ridiculous that it’s almost laughable. It's disgusting isn't it. The game is getting more and more poisoned by the year. Stop trying to ruin our beautiful game. It's a complete insult to the English game and those responsible for this dumb af decision should be utterly ashamed.
