I'd keep them both for another year.
We've looked better since Stevens has come back in and if we can get someone younger/fitter than he'd be a good backup and mentor. Thompson is a decent squad player.

No room for Stevens with Eric Pieters coming in😉

so far that's nowhere, it could stay that for a while yet, as long as he's being paid handsomely by scfc As I said there was interest it was the fee that put clubs off not his wages You don't know that. Because if clubs were put off by his fee, they never got the chance to sit down and discuss wages.

That's not how transfers work is it You tell me. You're not allowed to discuss wages with another club's player, if your transfer bid hasn't been accepted. But you are allowed to speak to their agent which is exactly what happens Clubs know what players are on and will have a steer on what package they need to offer a player long before finalising an actual transfer bid Players are regularly allowed to go and have talks with other clubs, medicals are undertaken all without a bid being formally agreed Stoke touted Pearson and Johnson for sale in January we had interest interest didn't materialise therefore we asked for too much

We have to renew both. No coincidence the upturn in form with stevens in the team. Thompson will be lower end of the pay scale and is more then adequate

I wouldn't renew Stevens. He's done alright lately but his legs have gone and he's hardly played.

Thougt he played well today but there was more than one occasion where he simply couldn't keep up and was trying to foul his man Fair play he got through it but yeah he's a very good left back at this level but his body isn't up to it

To me Thompson is a no brain contract extension. A degree of versatility and good attitude make him a Championship squad necessity.

Now we are safe, I hope the club looks objectively at renewals and doesn’t get caught up in the feeling of relief. If he could say fit Stevens would be worth it, but he’s too old and injury prone so it’s a no from me. Thompson has done well and rarely lets you down so he’s worth an extension, but should be a squad player at most if we are serious about trying to go up.

Stevens is quality and has made a huge difference to the side since coming back in. The team just looks so much more balanced.
His issue is clearly fitness and how many games you're going to get out of him. That said I think I'd offer him a 12 month deal but we definitely need another left back.

Thompson's family want him to stay, assume it all comes down to the money.

Fair play to Thompson. Never really been a fan but he’s been excellent lately. Clearly a great pro who gives his best. He’s earnt an extra year.

JT is a no brainer, there might be better out there, but a great team man and a solid pro. If we had more like him, we wouldn't be where we were earlier in the season.

Glad we've got JT.
Get Stevens for another year with a young up and comer to pass his experience on too would be ideal.

Good stuff re JT.
I can only see us agreeing on a new contract for Stephens if he’s willing to only accept one year (will definitely be pushing for two you’d think) and on a reduced wage.
If yes to both the above then it’s a no-brainer.

I for one have no problem with Thompson having another year nor with the offer to Steven’s for an add12 months. I suspect we will be looking to sign another left back as well .

The way the statement read sounds like no return for Cundle or Hoever , the former I'm especially surprised by. Oh well, hope they know what they're doing in the BET365 offices of recruitment this close season

I don't think it reads like that, any loan player can return at any time, they all have to return to their parent club at the end of the season and see what transpires.

Oh well, hope they know what they're doing in the BET365 offices of recruitment this close season The transfer window isn’t even open so they’re not going to announce that anyone who’s not currently our player will be here next season. They’re just simply stating that the loans are all up and they’ll return to their clubs. Cundle I think could be back but unless Wolves are willing to loan us Hoever again I can’t see us affording him on a permanent.
