To be fair, the title of the thread 'is bands to never make it big' ... I guess it’s what people class as big. A band that has sold 10 million copies of an album, had 5 top five singles including a number one and have headlined the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, didn't make it big? Seriously?

Badfinger. One of the saddest stories in rock. Did some great tunes but were exploited by an awful manager. A couple of one album wonders thar disappeared / split The LAs Milltown Brothers Ride (some success but could have been bigger). Managed initially by Lewis Collins dad.

Longpigs, sure one of the band is a stoke fan. The Seahorses, another band packed in too soon

Worked at THE and used to get he odd random album from up and coming bands. Straw’s album was really good and surprised they never broke through

Dublin's Whipping Boy...released an absolute masterpiece in "Heartworm" in 1995 and got washed away by the tide of britpop.
Album stands up to this day, criminal they never got their dues

Intastella. Always seemed to be support for someone slightly bigger, circa 1990, I saw them a few times, they were great live, lead singer was very striking
The Singing Curtains. Stoke Based 1987/88. Archetypal 80s/90s indie band. Supported the Darling Buds a couple of weeks after they had been on TOTP if I recall. Drummer went on to play for The Sainsburys Rosehips and Venus Beads. Great Sixth Form College music era

The Chameleons should have been massive. The Wildflowers, from the Stafford area were good.
it was tough in the early 80's, brilliant music everywhere you looked so not everyone made it.

Still finding it difficult to measure success. Been listening to the Bluetones this week nostalgically and can’t work out if they made it big or not?

Discussing this thread with the missus, provoked some thought before she came back at me with Marmalade and the way their career nosedived following a sex scandal. The story wasn't one I was familiar with, so a quick Google taught me two things I never knew; that before they changed their name to Marmalade, they used to be called The Gaylords And the second factoid was that when they sacked their drummer Alan Whitehead, being bitter and in need of money, he sold his story of wild sex romps with groupies to the Sunday papers along with a photo of himself at one of these parties wearing just a sock (and it wasn't even on his foot). I guess in those days this wasn't the kind of exposure you needed to get yourself on TOTP

Expecting to Fly, the debut album by the Bluetones, was the album that actually knocked What's The Story Morning Glory off the no 1 spot Mark Morris is a bit of prick though
