Since Hughes we have had a revolving door for managers ,it can't all be down to the managers though can it? some had decent CVs yet all managed to be poor for us. There is something not quite right at the club, since we were relegated, the only constant during that time as been J.Coates. So if J.Coates is the problem, what can be done about it? If he remains in charge I can't see things changing for the better, if he decided to sell the club,we could be in deep shite. So in a way we are fecked one way another. Since relegation we have gone for: - An experienced Championship manager (Rowett). - A young, bright coach from League One (Jones). - A manager with a strong reputation in international football (MoN). - A manager with two promotions on his CV (AN). It does not seem to matter who we appoint or what kind of manager we go for, no one seems to be able to get us moving in the right direction. All British though Where's Hyaduck when we need him?

Realistically he's not going anywhere soon.
If we hadn't have had that purple patch then the pressure may have started to mount but he'll get the whole season unless we're bottom 3 imo.

He clearly has to go but surely now its obvious that even when he does that nothing is going to change. What’s that swamp called in Neverending Story

We gambled on going back up when we backed Rowett. It didn't happen. We then gambled on Jones who only made our position worse. We then gambled on O Neill who actually did work out. But we got rid of him. We then gambled on Neil who we can only hope, does work out. The circumstances each manager worked in were totally different. Their is no magic formula in football and good managers are very very scarce. Palace gambled on Viera and it didn't work out. Burnley gambled on Kompany and it will take another 2 years before we know the outcome. That is why you see the same managers on the managerial roundabout constantly.

Agreed, and while we have been trying out every type of British manager , the academy have been churning out the youth players ... Nathan Collins, harry souttar , Connor Taylor, tezgel lowe. The players are coming through, that's a decent amount of decent players , for a championship club like Stoke . And still we can't go forward. Proven managers , good youth set up, but no progress.. Something is wrong but it is not easy to work out what to do next. That said, I very much doubt AN is the answer.

It's almost like we have to wait until our season is completely and utterly ruined and we are in the bottom 3 until we sack our managers. Why aren't we proactive and like other successful clubs do, why dont we sack our underperforming managers with a view to salvaging the season? It's painful how fucking long we wait when it's so obvious Neil isn't going to get us out this league, or remotely close to getting us out this league. Get him out. He’s going to get us out of this league alright. Just won’t the premier league.

He won’t be going anywhere but he’s making matters worse instead of better by thinking that the team will just start scoring a reasonable number of goals whilst he just makes negative adjustments. Our goals scored tells you there is a major problem and all he does is keep moving the deckchairs instead of changing the balance of the team to a more offensive one. Two seasons on the trott he insists on playing our most advanced midfielder on the basis of running ability rather than creative ability. If you keep playing players in advanced positions with terrible records of scoring or assisting what can you expect other than a very low scoring team?

I’ve said it a thousand times(maybe fewer ?) John Coates does not react to underperforming Stoke Managers until the fans turn on him vocally at games. It’s almost like there is no Leaders at the club. 🤷🤷♂️ The fans will decide. I think the Coates' want to back their manager as much as possible. It is pretty obvious that the last step in that process is when the fans properly and consistently turn on the manager. Everyone knows it's game over at that point.

I think all pretty much every Stoke wants is a side to be proud of. A side that play decent football and give their all on that pitch. We don't expect to win every game and that is never going to happen but when we are at home to shite like Blackburn and Cardiff and let's be honest in the grand scheme of things they are shite, we at least expect our team to have a go at them. That starts by playing our strongest starting eleven and that falls at the managers feet.

Everything about the club is beige. We are an average championship club that has completely lost direction and identity. This manager for me will never take us up. I’m afraid he lost me yesterday. The performance of this club is simply no where near good enough.

Some managers are better when they have limited budgets and small squads. I fear Neil is showing himself to be one of those - too many theories / too many options swirling around in his mind. Sometimes it’s works , a lot of the time it doesn’t and in those games it can be a very dispiriting spectacle. Having said that I think there is little chance of him departing this season barring any outright disasters.

Doesn’t know how to set up his team and doesn’t appear to do anything on the training pitch.

I get the feeling (rightly or wrongly) that we aren’t actually that close and the board are very much in favour of him, somehow.
Frankly for me he hasn’t done enough, last season or this, and more pertinently the same issues remain with a squad built to combat the problems we suffered last season. Thats enough for him to go.
That being said, I absolutely hate that we got to a situation where a manager is under this pressure with an entirely new squad. It should’ve been a fresh start in the summer - just as it should’ve been in 2022. Sacking a manager in August only to give the new guy effectively a write off season (ridiculous even if our squad wasn’t *that* good) was dreadful and then left us with a summer rebuild backing for a guy who had done nothing to prove he had earned it.

Like the Gayle thread I think we've seen enough of Neil to figure out we've seen enough and things aren't going to improve. We can wait until we're very old for things to "gel" and a million more transfer windows. When your goto striker is someone so badly out of form, then you know you're in trouble. We won't get rid for a while and the "5 gamer" has probably given him until the new year and beyond, due to the fact there will be some more signings that need to "gel". Everything about Blackburn yesterday was what Stoke need to be. Hard to beat, quick on the break (not waiting for tick-sheet passing) and dangerous in the box. It'll take more than a window and Neil to get us into that shape.

The Stoke players didn't perform and Blackburns did - not sure how much is on the manager. Mid table with a whole new set of players and the injuries we've had would be ok, not great but ok. Edit: Campbell , Burger and Junho performed well imo.

Awful management that! 🤬

5 games unbeaten, with 9 points picked up against very good opposition. Couple of frustrating draws before the break, granted.
First loss and people are calling for his head/ripping everything apart.
It's no wonder players don't like playing here at times.
0 support, just moaning all the time.

It's incredible to think of all the attacking signings we've made, and the quality they obviously have, and the lack of any threat when we play

Neil has been in charge for nearly 60 league games and achieved a little over a point a game: I can’t be arsed to look the exact stats up, in much the same way as Neil apparently can’t be arsed to coach the players.

We have failed to score in NINE out of 17 league games . Take away the 7 goals against Rotherham and Bristol City and that leaves 9 goals scored in the other 15 games . Absolutely shocking from a bloke with so many attacking options available to him ,most of which he seems incapable or unwilling to utilise ,either played out of position or sat freezing their bollocks off in the dugout. At any other club he'd be long gone.

You carry on accepting his abysmal home record and his record in general over 12 months...is nothing to do with 1 loss. If you think losing more than he wins, failing to score in more than half his games and one week of results papers over his shocking tenure, then ok Some aren't that easily swayed
