Two episodes in and I’m really enjoying it.Ive always been quite ambivalent towards him but to see the absolute shit this poor fucker was put through after his sending off, is appalling.Booed relentlessly for months every time he kicked a ball,I personally just watched on at the time totally oblivious to what he must have been going through. Other things I picked up on was his stupid wife a)telling him on the eve of two massive games she was pregnant then the second time that he’d better not miss the birth of the child ffs. b) Gary Neville is a decent bloke.

How many countries treat their star players the way they do in England? Press and fans alike then they moan when they fall short again. The way the press treated Bobby Robson then was all ..Please stay Bobby etc after Italy. Beckham, Rooney etc they wouldn't leave alone. I remember the day before their first World Cup game in France, NOTW had a pic of Seaman's ex wife and a story that he didn't get her tickets with a glum face. That was the best they could dig up to undermine a player on the eve of the tournament

Total scum….despicable.But the difference was,and that’s a lot down to the press I know, the vitriol from the public at large, the hanging effigy etc…and the full stadiums with the relentless abuse. No wonder he appears closed off.

Always thought it was the quarter final that it happened. All that over a last 16 game.
Anyway, what was the little 'asian' dude from Short Circuit doing making this documentary?? Not heard of him for years.

The abuse he got was way over the top. Absolutely vile over such a prolonged period of time. I bet he would have preferred 24 hours of mean tweets instead. Not saying that's acceptable either of course. But the stick he got was horrible, probably the worst I can remember in this country.

Always liked Beckham. His free kicks etc.etc. The abuse after the Argie game was uncalled for. I directed my hatred to that Argie cheating twat Simone ...🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

2 episodes in and it’s extremely well made. Some of the narrative buildup/music is giving me goosebumps.
I had no idea but the way hoddle treated beckham and threw him to the vultures after Argentina was bordering on despicable. I’d be interested to know what hoddle thinks with hindsight, given the hate campaign that followed. Maybe he’d regret not being protective?
Easy to overlook given brand beckham overshadows; but he was a bloody good player. All the more remarkable considering what he went through after WC 98. Actually heartbreaking when they were playing Sing by Blur and talking about the strain he was under at the time, and how mental health wasn’t so much a thing back then and he largely endured it all alone.

I think he’s a great role model. There I said it Knobbing your childrens baby sitter/PR woman? I will admit he has done extremely well for a footballer who couldn't head a ball or tackle or use his left foot.

What a great series this is. Loved every episode.
Say what you like about Beckham, but he works hard at everything he does. Successful people do generally.
The whole thing comes across very well.
Still surprised Gary Neville didn't do well as a manager. I would say he comes across as having all you need to make it as a good manager.

I will admit he has done extremely well for a footballer who couldn't head a ball or tackle or use his left foot. It’s a blemish on his character that hopefully they’ll address in the series; but I don’t think we’re in a position to hold a decades old mistake against him when I don’t think even his wife does. Besides, 99.9% of men will never have any idea what it’s like being a man that desirable. You could’ve been married for 100 years and never so much as looked at another woman, but if you didn’t have beautiful women throwing themselves at you then you probably aren’t in a position to judge someone who does. They showed plenty of footage of him getting stuck in btw. And one footedness (if it’s even true) is a shit argument because messi…

Its a good watch, he comes across as introverted and a bit OCD, he doesn't seem to have confided much with even his closest friends. His dad is coming across as the toughest and pushiest of parents, which, whether you agree with that approach or not - has helped him be the best he can be and super resilient when in got tough.
I like him but I wouldn't use him as a role model, because he was a major factor in the tatt craze, and 100% of other people look shittier with them than he does.

Seems down to earth for one of the most famous people on the planet.
How proud he was to play for England was fantastic rare these days

I will admit he has done extremely well for a footballer who couldn't head a ball or tackle or use his left foot. Do what you do well. People criticising Beckham for not being two footed may as well criticise a quarterback from not being able to throw the (American) football forty yards with their other arm.

I will admit he has done extremely well for a footballer who couldn't head a ball or tackle or use his left foot. He wasn't great with his left foot at all no but the things he could do, he was one of the best of his generation. The England game against Greece where he scored the free kick at the death to send us to the world cup was the best performance by an England player I have ever seen and probably ever will see. The bloke gave everything for his country every time he stepped onto that pitch but that day he was an absolute animal. I get the questions over mistakes he has made in his personal life but how you can knock his footballing ability I'm not so sure about.

It's a very good watch, enjoying it so far.
It's very annoyingly, a reminder of just how good that Man Utd team were for such a long time(twats). Beckham was a fantastic player, i've never known anyone who's able to literally place the ball wherever he wants, into the top corner or on someone's head, fantastic ability.
I think he comes across as a quiet, thoughtful bloke who's obviously been through a hell of a lot but has also worked extremely hard for everything he has. He's brave doing this show and really opening up because he's been very quiet in the media since he retired so not a lot of people know a lot about him as a person.

It’s true about that team,I hated them(and Fergie and golden balls to a certain extent) but now as time passes and how the game has changed so quickly, all the vast amounts of money involved, the constant theatrics,VAR etc etc.. I look back quite fondly on a young team, mainly localish lads put together by a no nonsense manager who propelled them to great things.Or perhaps I’m just getting old.

Always had Beckham as being a genuine bloke. Yes, he’s played up to the image and limelight and had possible affairs….many men have done the same, but always seems to be on a level despite his wealth and image.

Think a fair few of them do, when it comes to the top European nations. Italy, Germany, Netherlands. The press in England is shocking the way it treats anyone of note. The likes of The Sun looking for dirt then making it up if nothing of note. All over the team then on the eve of a big game They once printed the number of Lancaster Gate as a headline for readers to call and get Bobby Robson fired 2 years later they were all over Saint Bobby
