We don't only have 1 left back anymore,
We have 3 that can play left backs & 3 that can play right back.
Thompson mightly impressive there again.
Neil has seen something in him for that position and you can see it works

I have always liked Thompson.
He is professional, always puts a shift in, and never seems to let us down.
I think it is highly debatable whether he should be someone who starts regularly, but as a squad player he is perfect.

This guy again today! The build up to the second goal after Pearson got injured, fair play lad. Somebody who cares, who wants to fight for his place, will fill in wherever, thats what Stokies want, blood an guts.

He's a better player now than we when we signed him
I think he's actually improved this season as he's definitely getting his head up and looking for the forward pass, much less of the backwards and square default setting we've seen before

I had the Boro commentary on my stream. They couldn’t believe we’d brought on a left back to play centre mid🤣 Idiots. I thought he did well again and that foul for the team was a cracking crog!

The guy loves a tacticaL foul
And I love a tactical fouler in the middle of the park , or anywhere , just so long as he is wearing a Stoke shirt .
So I am a fan .
A bit unfortunate that the FA , don't understand its wrong to punish Stoke players for yellow cards , so I think he is banned for our next game ?
Back to the OP, totally agree , handy squad player .

My heart sank when he came on, then he did a shimmy and a perfect ball out wide which resulted in the second goal. Happy to be wrong!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Jordan Thompson is class. Technically one of the best on the ball we’ve got, just need to play him correctly. Never gives up and always puts himself about.
He’s not a LB but he did brilliantly against Leeds, get him centre of the park and let him dictate and we’d be have a really good player on our hands

I've always said I never got the hate. Meat and potatoes player that cost us less than a pot noodle. He is what he is and he's good at what he does. Any squad needs players like Thompson.
The promotion squad of 07/08 had Danny Pugh and they're both very similar.

Yesterday was perfect for him, they gave us oceans of space to play in.

The class, technically one of the best players we’ve got and the let him dictate parts are absolute twaddle! He’s a good squad player who’s got a good attitude every team needs these types of players. A team of Jordon Thompsons on the other hand would not get you anywhere near the playoffs.

It was interesting that after the match AN described him as tactically excellent - understands roles perfectly and executes what he's asked to do. I think he's one of those players who many fans underestimate because of the type of player he is. Over the years there have always been players like that. I think he's proved some of those fellow fans wrong in the last few games.

He’s a hard worker who can occasionally pick out a very decent long ball. It’s a shame that they aren’t more consistent as he’d go from reserve to first name on the team sheet. As it is, he’s more than adequate as a squad player for any team in this division, if used correctly.

He's not the Skeels of the 21st century or he would have had more games to his name by now. and he's too leftfooted to see him filling in at rb, rwb, or even rw, but nonetheless there's a lot of similarities to Eric in the way he applies himself to the needs of the team, and ultimately, the needs of the manager, and in the quiet way he goes about it, not demanding to play, but playing when he's called upon, or demanding the ball when he sees fit to it, but taking it on or making a naughty tackle when it's needed. Oh and by the way he scores a pretty mean fluke goal...

He’ll get a little more time there. I haven’t seen much of him at left back, so it’s hard for me to comment on that too specifically. Unless we sign a left back in January, I imagine he’ll have double figures in terms of starts there this season.

My main worry with Thompson at LB is his positioning when we’re in possession. Against Leeds (I noticed more so in the first half as I’m sat that side) he seemed scared to move forward to receive a pass, like he was unsure of his position and felt safer not going forward and leaving any gaps, so we found it more difficult playing out.

Instructions from the manager. Thats just nonsense why would he do that? So Hoever could get forward on the other side. He was instructed to stay back so the back 4 turned into a wide 3 when we were on the attack.

Not far behind Campbell as the current Stoke player with most appearances.
I've never got the negativity towards Thompson either and agree with the comment comparing him to Danny Pugh. He's still only 26, and I'd be looking at extending his contract, especially if we're still in the Championship next season.

He was picked at left back v Leeds to do a job on Wilfried Gnonto, who has the ability to rip a defence to bits. JT did exactly what was asked of him and Gnonto was the 1st player to be substituted. He was excellent on the night

Positioning should come with repeat experience though. You can only get better by doing.
