Have we ran over a black cat, or got a gypsies curse.
Every time we sweep the deck and try to start afresh it goes horribly wrong before we even get going.
The last 5 years have to be the most shocking i can recall, and yet every season we seems to have some fresh impetus only for it to fizzle away and we revert to type.
I genuinely thought we might have made a stab at the top 8 this season but in 8 games its been washed away.
What is it? The owners? The manager? The players? The fans expectations? Something else?
Each passing season we are further away than ever from promotion. Is it gonna be another 23 years before we are back cos I'll have to admit i may be a bit long in the tooth by then.

It all comes down to the owners mate there's nowt else to it and it's not a mystery. There is no clearly defined club vision set by the owners, they don't recruit to that vision and they don't have a clue on how to run a modern football club.
They let every new manager dictate the direction of the club and give them the keys to the kingdom which is why we've gone through 2-3 squads of players and not made any progress as we have no foundations to build upon because every new manager gets to rip out the foundations and put their own in so every time it goes wrong which it seems to always do we have to start from scratch again.

It’s absolutely mind blowing how backwards a lot of our fans are.

The truth is that nobody knows what the problem is. Imo it’s the boards choice of managers… this “must be British” thing that they have going on clearly is not working & needs a change. I have backed AN up until the Hull game on satdee in which I lost all confidence in him. Do we need another change? I have no idea & I'm guessing neither does JC.
It’s majorly depressing being a Stokie but deep down we’re addicted to the pain.

This Division takes some getting out of but to stand a chance you've got to get the balance right. Good solid defence and a bit of flair. We've not bothered with the good solid defence part at all. Not really bothered with the flair part until this summer but then went way over the top and totally ignored the good solid defence part. But do you expect your recruitment of players to be any good when you hire a bloke whose knowledge of football as a whole is based on a spreadsheet??

I think that the owners have made some positive moves behind the scenes in terms of restructuring the hierarchy of the club.
The question now is whether the right people have been appointed into key roles.
The seismic changes on and off the pitch during the summer was always going to make the start of the season difficult.
However, we look all over the place and AN just seems a little lost at the minute.
For whatever reason, we just cannot seem to get any positive momentum at the club.

We allowed the manager to appoint the technical director. that’s about as backwards as it gets😂

I agree but all I will say is that this season they look to have made the right steps in hiring a head of recruitment. Hopefully they have asked Jared Dublin to sign players for a certain system not a certain manager and when Neil gets sacked they have a suitable manager lined up. Not holding my breath but I'm trying to stay slightly positive.

Personally, I think that there is a decent team to be put together from the current squad if they are managed and coached better. However, very few of the new signings have actually made any kind of positive impact yet.

Of course they’re not and Dean’s call tonight was excellent post match but I don’t think it’s that easy just to get new owners in nowadays with money who’ve got the best interests of Stoke City at heart

Excellent result against Rotherham. Good result in the Cup against West Brom. All the fans inside. Good attacking football. Then he absolutely fucking shits the bed against Ipswich. Were we any good? No. Are they a decent side on a ridiculously good run of form? Absolutely. Did that deserve a player being subbed before half-time causing a clear issue that saw that player leave? No. Was what likely to have caused some player disharmony? Yes. Have we recovered from that? No Has AN played the the same team or formation since to try and recover? Probably not. Has he continued some odd substitutions? Yes Does AN look like he has a clue what he is doing? No.

Plenty of other clubs have and a lot were smaller than us at the time of their buyouts too. Tonight’s opponents being one of them. The thing is, we don’t necessarily need the Coates to sell, we just need them to fucking wake up and get with the times. JC could do a lot worse than going to spend some time with Tony Bloom. Who ironically also made his fortune from gambling, only he did it by taking money off the bookmakers.

Doesn’t help when this vas deferens of a manager starts playing a formation that we don’t have the personnel for, an attacking mid on the wing, a central midfielder at left-back and two pint sized wingers as strikers and tinkers with the team every single sodding game because he’s terrified of every other team in this league except Rotherham. This bloke is comfortably the worst manager we’ve appointed since relegation, you could quite clearly see Jones was a complete lunatic so his failure came as a surprise to no one.

MoN did a pretty incredible job to save us from relegation when he arrived. I think people have forgotten what an absolute mess the club was in at the time. In his second season he stabilised the club despite FFP restrictions and we even threatened around the play offs for a short period of time. However, MoN's ultimate failing that he was unable to build a promotion winning team. His approach was too cautious and pragmatic to get enough wins to get ourselves in the play off mix. By the end of that season and the start of last year he had just completely lost the plot really.

I miss his turn of phrase 'maximum points', 'people thought we would lose but we never subscribed to that view ', 'they didn't create anything of note' and more. And he was likeable!

With our balance sheet the way it is, only a very rich person could afford us. And whose fault is that? They've proved consistently that they're not fit to run the club. How much longer do we put up with the shit they're feeding us? It's been 6.5 years so far. Do we wait until they hit a decade? Maybe 15 years of mismanagement is acceptable? Or what about another 23 years in the wilderness? When is the cut off point? Or isn't there one and we'll all just continue to be good little Stokies and just be grateful that the club actually still exists (albeit in League Two).
