On what planet ever in the history of time does booing your own football team make us play better?
We’ve been generally awful for a few years, you lot pay your hard earned money to watch that crap, they’re all on a fortune, it’s our right to booo blah blah blah,
Our fans are easily the most negative toxic fans in the country. It’s embarrassing and other teams must piss themselves coming to play at our ground. “Come on lads, we get one here and this place will turn”.
Really feel sorry for all the new lads that have just come in getting sold a tale of great fans and they then get royally booed constantly a few games in.
Ever think that getting behind the team might actually make us play better and might make the opposition play worse? Just a thought.
If you’re booing. Either get behind the team or stay at home because you’re the problem you negative bastards

You are right that booing is not going to motivate the team, but sometimes a message is needed.
It’s understandable that fans are so negative given the football we've had to endure since our relegation.
It can’t go on forever though, one of these managers and teams will eventually click and we’ll be on the up again!

I didn’t do it to make them play better, I did it to signal it’s fucking shit and needs sorting out.
Hope that clears the confusion up x

Ooooh I’ve just read the whole thing.
Anyone being negative is not the fucking problem.
What a fucking stupid thing to say.
7 years of utter utter shit and people are expected to just sit there and happy clap along, get in the sea.

Agree - it's counter productive. Very difficult for the new players to settle and perform in front of our fans. I don't understand it, never will. It's part of the problem but is equally a reflection of the mood of society in general at the moment.

I guess so tbh. 13 years of shit under the Tories, 7 years of shit under the Coates’ and wanting better than their useless attempts at leading.

Pip pip boys, better luck next time? I say Alex, might we have a bash at a bit of organisation somewhere old bean?

Ah, a good old "it's the fans fault" thread. We've not had one of these yet this season, so really good to see one make a comeback

Dear new players, Sorry that you have come to Stoke City on the premise of great & loyal fans. But, listen, Stoke fans do not boo players per se, no they are venting their frustration again after enduring 6 years of turgid football with the expectation (there’s always expectation at the beginning of every season) & anticipation that 18 new signings might signal a change in fortunes. Rome wasn’t built in a day so keep yourselves focussed on what the boss is trying to do & be brave & dunner shirk your on field responsibilities.

Don't boo personally and agree during the match it is counterproductive. But lets be honest we've been shit for years and letting them know at the end of the game is a perfectly reasonable reaction, happy clapping can be just as counterproductive sometimes.

I have never agreed with or understood booing. All it does is spread negativity. The players and manager know it’s not good enough and needs sorting - they don’t need us reminding them. Imagine how you would perform at work in such a toxic atmosphere. I’m not a ‘happy clapper’, I’m a ‘supporter’. Look it up if there’s any confusion.

Why are you assuming they know it's not good enough???? I don't believe they do, because they aren't giving 110% and if they are then they aren't good enough and need to be replaced don't they? Which we just did, so the 18 new signings need to know it's not good enough. The manager needs to know it's not good enough. We aren't mid table prem top of our mini league with bonus games!

I think you’re insulting the players’ intelligence here.
It’s obvious that the booing is directed at the manager’s inability to deliver any kind of consistency or positive direction of travel in more than 12 months in charge.
And for that he deserves to be under fire.

6 years of dross. Yep, we should be sending them off the pitch with a fanfare.
If we had 6 decent to good years and we have a few bad results as outliers, then yes you could question the fans absolutely.
Losing 5 out of 8 and in the manner we have just won't wash against the backdrop of 5 consecutive bottom half Championship finishes with one of those containing a huge brush with League One, and the highest placing being 14th.
If the answer is 'the fans are the problem' then I really haven't got a clue what the question is.

Every time things are shit and the fans are moody, there’s a thread like this somehow apportioning blame onto the fan base.
All I can say is FUCK OFF.
The idea we’re a toxic fan base and therefore in some way culpable for the shitshow of the last 6+ years is borderline violence-inducing levels of offensive. Get fucked any cunt that ever suggests it.
If we can be accused of anything as a fanbase, it’s being far too passive from relegation onwards. We’ve witnessed consistent failure and ineptitude that has been largely predictable, and we’ve responded with a bit of booing every now and again. And we’re somehow “the most negative toxic fans in the country”.
STFU.

I'm not sure but Ive never been to a game where booing has improved the performance. Booing generally only takes place post (shit) performance - its not intended to improve performance but to let the club know folk have made an effort both financially and logistically to attend the match and we expect something similar from them .....so fuckin booooo!
