I thought he was OK on Saturday and didn't need to make that tackle in the first minute. He stopped a few attacks, kept the ball moving and was generally OK. I don't get the need to go OTT when we lose. If he's not sprinting around like a mad man some seem to assume he's had a bad game, if he goes unnoticed it probably means he's been okay, I don't think some understand his position. Not really, he's not that kind of player but some games have bypassed him almost. Not been impressed with him too much at all but we have no other option in there really. Only a matter of time until a suspension, possibly the way he's making those pointless challenges mentioned above

He's, for Championship, a very good defensive midfielder when he's playing well

Means exactly what I said replying to the previous comment.
He's not the kind of player who runs around like a madman I think was the term replying to.
He's a very good player on his day I agree but been a bit of a disappointment so far.

I think that's just how he looks. The sort of chubby fella we all had in our team at Uny., not really an athlete but better than you expect he will be. When I saw him at the airport the other week I wouldn’t use the word “chubby” he’s actually quite slight Yeah 'chubby' was the wrong word, he is an unlikely looking athlete, more gonk-like than anything!

Personally I don't think he's been bad at all.... I just think the focus isn't on him like last year, it's mainly on the new lads now, so he's just flying under the radar so to speak.... And because he's doing so, people are thinking he's not on his game!!!

One thing I have noticed is his attempts at the dark arts are so obvious he can expect a yellow every game!

He does the dirty stuff , in more ways than one but not so much this season. Been over run in midfield way too much this season and he's been chasing shadows a bit for me. Had a spell v Preston when he seemed to get involved a bit more but been a bit of a passenger way too often.Need to see him involved more

Feel like I'm one of very few that is distinctly unimpressed with him, both last season and this season to date.
Maybe he got away with a lot more at Preston because they aren't "big, physical, nasty Stoke City" but his ability to pick up early bookings means he is pretty much completely ineffective in most of the games I've seen him play.

It's almost like he's playing with the brake half on all the time, for Preston he often drove forward with the ball and actually had a decent burst of acceleration, for us he for me, slows things down, when they should be speeded up, he's obviously got talent, just not showed much of it for us of yet..

How many yellow cards has Pearson accumulated after the first 8 league and cup games?
Other than PNE, how many were picked up in the first half?

Do we want our holding midfielder 'driving forward with the ball'?

Any good midfield should be fluid, one drives forward, another has the intelligence to drop in and cover and vice versa, at present, for me, our midfield has no balance to it, hopefully in time and playing together that will come, like many, it's all about opinions.

He is not match fit. When he is, which he will be hopefully soon, he is one of the best players in the Championship in his position. We know what he can do. Support him do not knock him.

Maybe he got away with a lot more at Preston because they aren't "big, physical, nasty Stoke City" but his ability to pick up early bookings means he is pretty much completely ineffective in most of the games I've seen him play. There were times last season that he was absolute class, Blackburn at home one of them, where he was everywhere he needed to be breaking up play with tackles and interceptions then playing a good pass. He was what we’d been missing as our central midfield was (and is when he’s not there or on a booking) like a sieve. My only complaint was that he’d sometimes be too deep, becoming part of the defensive line rather than the midfield or in between. The yellow card thing is a massive problem. It makes him unable to do what he’s good at. I appreciate that being the one putting the tackles in will earn the odd yellow but idiocy like the yellow vs Preston doesn’t help. He has acknowledged it though, so it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on this week. A Pearson in good form gives us top six potential, the other one leaves us where we have been since we came down.

How often does that happen in practice though, that's basically what McClaren used to say about Lampard and Gerrard. The most balanced midfield I can remember us having in recent times was Whelan-Nzonzi and then Adam or Bojan. One to hold, one to carry, one to create. Of course they'll all get opportunities in different phases of play but they all have their primary roles as well.

He didn’t have a proper pre-season and has had the odd niggle so I don’t think he’s fully up to speed yet.
Needs to cut out the daft bookings but other than that he’s been ok and there’s more to come from him.

I think when he gets injured or suspended we'll see what he does, similarly to Whelan.
I do think it's definatley an area though we need another good player in for squad depth, not sure Thompson is that player, but Rome was never built in a day.
Looks like we missed a good one in Ali Mcann, we should probably keep sniffing there for a chance to get him in

He won't get one tonight, as I've stuck a tenner on him getting a yellow card.
£10 returns £21
