Following surgery I'm not going to get to home games this side of Xmas so I can only see TV highlights but there's a depressing number of empty seats - is this still "summer holidays" ?
We've transformed the squad, we're winning games, I'd have thought that would have got a lot of people back ?

Official attendances so far have been 22,601 for Rotherham and 21,183 yesterday.
So stripping out away followings we’re looking at around 20,000-21,000 home tickets sold and probably about 18,000-19,000 actually in attendance when you factor in holidays at this time of year.
I’d say that’s pretty healthy for where we’re at as a club.
It looks worse on TV as the front rows and the new corner are the least popular spots and you see a lot of them from the main camera angle.

You also have to consider that people have way less disposable income even compared to 12 months ago. I think crowds are pretty healthy all things considered

I said to our lass yesterday, the problem is that we extended the stadium seating by filling in the end, now we seat 30 odd thousand,so if the crowd is only just over 20 thousand, it looks half empty.

You also have to consider our fanbase has had the joy and enthusiasm sucked out of them over recent years.
It's a work in progress.

You've got maybe 16-18k in a stadium that holds just a tad over 30k as already stated.
Times are hard as this government allows the multinationals to squeeze the life out of what's left of the economy as already stated.
The football on offer has (and remains IMHO) utterly dreadful as already stated.
The club has historically done little or nothing to communicate with/attract/incentivise punters, although there do appear to be some flickering signs of life in this respect just lately
So I think the club is very fortunate to maintain the gates they do - and that's from someone who remembers 4,600 hardy souls watching the infamous Norwich game at the Victoria Ground back in the day.

Looks grim on the TV on highlight shows.
I think it's made worse by the fact that 80% of highlights seem to take place at the South Stand end.
Where the last 30 metres of the stand opposite the cameras is completely empty, as is the front half of the South Stand where our fans are, you can also see the centre section of the South Stand which is not even open.
It looks like a practice match, several of my friends are asking where have our fans gone!

There were 5 seats either side of me free yesterday, due to holidays. I guess yesterday’s match fell into peak summer holiday season.
What surprised me was how sparse the Boothen End looked especially when Vidigal wheeled away in celebration.
Winning football will bring a certain number of fans back but I’ve said it before the club need to look quite urgently at reduced prices of bundles of ticket to get people back into the habit of going and making it more affordable for those people who can’t afford a season ticket.
They could quite easily put together a package of tickets to be put on sale tomorrow for say the night matches already scheduled at a really good price and I’m sure they would sell well.
A £10/£5 offer available to all to capitalise on the new feel good factor is needed also pretty soon. Why not the Hull match due the move to the Sunday lunchtime!?

Even allowing for a very dull first half yesterday the entertainment has increased quite clearly as attested by the much better atmosphere in the ground for each of the 3 home games so far. appreciate we may have simply gone from 1 out 10 to 6 out of 10 entertainment wise but feels much more fun already

It’s prime holiday time.

It’s because no one sits at the front. They should make the seats at the front cheaper and have stewards check your tickets when you come out from the concourse

I think they have a policy (not sure if it’s an official rule or not) whereby they won’t offer match tickets for less than the cost that an individual match works out at for season ticket holders. The exception is obviously the ones they’ve done in the last year or two where season ticket holders can add extra tickets for a tenner.

I’m convinced this would work Would it increase attendances though or just encourage people to move seats? the attendance isn’t the problem imo, we get more than most in the division. when I’m at the games it looks pretty full, but watching the highlights it looks like no one is there!

It’s completely fine when you’re there, no one wants to sit the near the front and have a wank view. If we keep up the decent form we’ll be pushing 25k again.

Match survey “What could we do to improve your experience of attending the game”. Answer “Score more goals” I’ve had to give middling answers to most of the other questions you asked as I have no experience of these facilities. I come watch the game and go home I don’t even go to the toilet.

Why would the club want to decrease matchday revenue just to give the impression of being fuller on TV?

I think it depends on what camera you're seeing it on as well. She I watch the vlogs back on YouTube it looks a decent turn out. Even there at the ground in the south stand looking out I've seen it a lot worse.
A few good wins and it will soon start filling up

The attendance is definitely part of the problem, it's daft to even begin to think that it isn't. If the ground is full then the seats are full therefore the ground looks full on TV. Then again, who cares what it looks like on TV for a couple of minutes during a highlights package anyway?

I was there yesterday (south stand) and the crowd looks noticeably healthier than it did for many matches last season; especially night games when I’m sure a significant % of ST holders gave it a miss.
When I watch highlights back it always looks far emptier than in reality and that’s because the lower rows are the least desirable seats.
But even the boothen end which has been slowly dying for a while now is looking healthier so far this year. Can’t say I ever hear them but then I’ve heard the same said from boothen enders about the south stand, and the atmosphere in the south stand feels how the boothen end did 20 years ago; albeit far less people. Maybe more akin to some away followings in the ID card years. So maybe the boothen end still pipes up but it’s an issue of acoustics.

A view from the away end. Two things I notice watching this. The family stand is always a let down for attendance. I know it's holiday time but it often had empty seats even in the prem. And also, why are the floodlights on when it's a nice sunny day?
