Mad to go there or mad to turn it down?.. I'd only sign if it was a one year deal if I were him.

Mad to go there or mad to turn it down?.. I'd only sign if it was a one year deal if I were him. If he’d have already won the UCL, I think it may be a different consideration. He’d have already done everything he can if football. If he wants to stop going for that goal at 24, I wouldn’t blame him. He’d have to hope that a lot more top players move as well, otherwise playing for France might become harder.

The deal apparently is a one year contract and then he can leave for free to Real Madrid, utterly insane but I really think he might take it for the year. I can’t see Real Madrid paying upwards of 200 million for him when they can get him for free next year. So he may aswell make 700 million in Saudi rather than wait it out at psg for another season.

He’d be mad to turn that down for 12 months before joining Madrid on a free. Which I guess is the point of what the Saudis are doing - proving anyone and anything can be bought be them. I find it completely obscene and very depressing.

All of this Saudi money is effectively making the prospect of a super league more likely unfortunately.

That deal would change the face of football. I think that genie is out of the bottle. The financial doping of European leagues from selling to the Saudis will render all but the top clubs financially irrelevant. Aren't four of these clubs in the Saudi league already owned by the same group?

Aren't four of these clubs in the Saudi league already owned by the same group? PSG, Newcastle, Man city & partially Arsenal are. It's just a money swill and without FFP in that league it's just crazy. I mean why wouldn't you pop over for 12 months for 700M, I would! Tax free too, so long as you get your tax year ducks in a row. Trouble is who's going to watch this league? I can't be bothered "pick" an unknown team, so where is it going to go?

If you were going to Riyadh to work for, say, a year and knowing that there is not much to do on weekends drinking wise and one of the few entertainment options was watching football. Which team in Riyadh would you go to watch if none of the teams play in red and white? Speaking hypothetically of course.

I think kids could be brought up to follow Saudi teams, or their star players, in the UK easily. What's the difference between a kid from say Milton Keynes supporting Liverpool or supporting Al Hilal? Most supporters, or should I say subscribers, of our big teams are not local. This kid is probably never going to go to a real match but is still going to be buying the merch every season and basically subscribing to the brand. Go to cities like Leeds, a very traditional English club yet you find most of the kids support Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City or even Real Madrid or Barcelona rather than their local team. You see a lot of kids who seem to support players rather than teams as well these days, kids with Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar tops etc.

They live on compounds and you’d have word of a specific house to go to for as specific type of booze. One might do wine, one a bourbon etc. There’s definitely a drinking behind closed doors culture.

The following is an extract from Andrei Kanchelskis autobiography - who played a season in Saudi in the noughties. "You could get alcohol in Saudi Arabia, if you knew the right kind of local; if you wanted a beer, one could be arranged. The biggest drinkers of all were some members of the Saudi royal family. Because it was forbidden for the police to enter the home of a member of the royal family, some had huge stocks of alcohol in their palaces. They would take trips to Bahrain or London to party. In all my years in football I had never seen anyone drink so much as some of those Saudi princes."

Saudi owned team in danger of losing their star man for nothing when his contract runs out next summer, get a world record transfer fee from a Saudi owned club. Nothing dodgy at all about this deal. No siree. Move along please, nothing to see here. .

Wow, how many doctors/nurses/teachers/refugees/homeless/soldiers/other (in no particular order) could that pay for? It just shows what society really values and what they really care about. f course he is free to take it and force his conscience to be clear and those that have that money are free to spend on whatever they want as their best contribution to the planet, but who to blame, those giving and receiving the cash, or for society for wanting it this way and accepting it, only to moan about how shit the world is.

You have to wonder about the hunger of these players once they've finished in Saudi. Imagine trying to motivate a 25 year old Kylian M'Bappe coming off the back of a 700M contract?
