It's a good question. Once Argentina got going you can imagine them using that defeat to spur themselves on, also knowing that they don't lose that many, so that's our defeat done type thing. They've only lost once in 40 odd games, that one to the Saudis. Crazy stuff. Gives the Saudis a good boost for their 2030 World Cup hosting bid - a proper footballing nation…

Pictures ruined forever by people who have no clue about football dressing him in that stupid robe! 🤦♂️ Yep, corporate bellends and non-football people ruining a moment that should’ve been iconic.

I guess it might have been a completely different game but I can't get past the feeling that an England side in that final would have lost tamely to Argentina or crumbled vs a rejuvenated France. i am not denying that messi and mbappe can play but it is sad that we end up with a final between the two most cynical teams in the tournament , the gold standard of shirt pulling and tactical fouling . i think if we had a ref, with the bottle to apply the rules , the likes of Griezmann would be sent off after ten minutes and we would beat France fair and square to go on to play a decent side which would be great but i am not holding my breath what a shame , that the lesson for us , is we need to start cheating on the scale of france and argentina , to move up to the next level

Qatari money doing everything it can to ensure France wins. After hosting a World Cup final like we’ve just witnessed, they will see every note stuffed into those brown envelopes as money we’ll spent!

They ensured that end to end game that went to penalties was won by ...erm...Argentina Seems the postal strike ended up the envelope going in the wrong pocket

France didn’t turn up for an hour or more. Maybe illness played a part, maybe they would have done better if they had Kante or Pogba available. However you have to play with what you have and they fought well and eventually it turned into a sensational final. Personally I wanted a France win and I am not a fan of Argentina but they were the better team on the day and I can’t begrudge Messi - who was excellent and barely put a foot wrong with intelligent play - a great finale to his career.
France saw a new crop of very good young players come to the for and they have the right national organisation for developing a stream of good players. I see the same potential in England , who were unlucky not to reach the final, and I look forward to meeting France in the final of the European Nations Cup in a couple of years.

If I was Messi. 36 playing in France at a big club in a poor league. Won everything in the game, more money he can ever spend I’d retire. Everything else will be down. Nothing left to achieve.
his last kick in professional football help him win the WC and cement his place as the greatest
Drogbas last kick at Chelsea should have won the champions league. Then he went back

A decade ago you're playing alongside Michael Duberry and letting in three goals on your debut at Vale Park. Ten years later you're lifting the World Cup.
Quite the achievement for Emiliano Martinez

Then he went back They play for the love of the game though first and foremost, not their legacy. You only have a limited amount of time while you can play football at the top level. And once its gone its gone and its very difficult to replace. Until he loses the love or his body is no longer capable, he should continue to keep playing.

What about football culture and that of a great footballing nation with a great kit… For fuck sake it looks like a nightie his mum would wear to officially announce its Christmas to his dad. Fuck all do with respect- using one of the greatest moments and icons in world cup history to sports wash bribery, corruption, entrenched homophobia and blatant disregard of expendable labour is a fitting end to a plastic tournament in a gold guilded shit hole. Heard a fan say their highlight of the world cup was taking the train for fuck sake. Spending literally life savings and the best bit is the commute- proper gutted I missed that!
