I never appreciated Glenn Whelan until the last couple years he was here. Thought he was holding us back from that next jump. It's clearly because I'm an idiot, that I did not realize what he did for our team.

Harry Kane but I still donāt want him in the England team particularly. š He can defect back to the Ireland team any day š And Rice You can have him. I still donāt really rate him Iām not gonna lie. But he does score plenty of goals. Rice though, weāll keep him.

When Zay Angola scored v Bristol City I thought we'd unearthed a European gem. Oh well My Dad insisted we go watch his reserve team debut just before the Bristol game. I think it was 0-0 vs Bolton at the Vic. Not much happened.

Imbula shows up and quickly scores a goal for us. What a flash in the pants that was.

I remember thinking we had bought a geriatric carthorse whose best place was pasture in Basford, rather than the middle of a First Division back 4 when Dave Watson arrived from Southampton. He went on to be one of the best centre halves I've ever seen play for Stoke.
You'd think I'd learn, but my thoughts were similar when Gerry Taggart arrived.
Finally I decided to give Jags a chance before passing opinion, and things are looking optimistic.

Palacios and Crouch signed on the same day. Delighted about one, thought the other was solving a problem we didn't have. 100% wrong
Afellay - thought he was probably shot, and when he got sent off against WBA I never wanted to see him in a Stoke shirt again.
Kitson - thought he was just what we needed.

Greenacre, Palacios, Bony, Ryan Woods.
Probably Shawcross to an extent, as I didn't think he'd become the best and most consistent Stoke player I'd see since I started watching Stoke 30 years ago, and I doubt he'll be beaten on that one.
Away from Stoke, I didn't rate Harry Kane for ages and thought he must be lucky.

Tony Scully on loan. He looked like a wing wizard, turned his man inside out first game .
Not sure what happened after that

Tony Ellis. I thought he was brilliant! I was convinced he was going to become the next Greenhoff, but in hindsight he was the ultimate "nearly man". I swear he hit the woodwork more often than he scored for us. Then Bertie & Steino showed him how it should be done.

Think I was pretty underwhelmed about Sorro. Wasnāt he without a club at the time? I thought he was a bit of a washed-up ageing pro and we needed better For me, on the keeper front, it was when we had pretty much signed David James from Pompey and at the 11th hour ended up with some unknown bloke called Asmir Begovic. I was fuming... Didn't turn out too bad in the end

Quite a relief when I found out a few days later it didn't happen

Another few days and he would have been ineligible for England. The bloke is a goal machine

One of the most underwhelming signings in my mind is when why on earth we signed a midget centre forward from Oxford United reserves.
Oh, that player was none other than the great Mark Stein.

I hated him because he'd previously dived for a pen that virtually relegated us . He oddly won me over in time

Also, Gudjohnson.
He tore us a new one at the Brit the season before. I couldnāt wait for him to join. Then he arrived ridiculously out of shape with no apparent interest in getting fit.
Players who arrive in such shape should be sued, in my opinion.

Which players were you wrong about? The stand out ones. For me I couldn't see what Jon Walters gave us in the early days. Fast forward a few season and what a plonker I looked.š Yes, I too fell into the "time to replace Walters" trap, a few seasons before he actually went..... How wrong was I!!! I was glad when we first had him, but the more we found ourselves becoming established in the Premier League, the more I wanted a replacement for him!!! How we could have used his services in that relegation season, he was WAY better than both Jese and Choupo-Moting, and I'm convince he would have got the few goals we needed to turn some losses into draws, and draws into wins!!!

Was a goal machine wherever he played then he turned up at Stoke , scored with his first touch didn't he His first touch he took a ball on his chest and swivelled , laying it wide . Great stuff. Big round of applause Next touch he scored. I remember that night so well, gf at the time had bought tickets to see the Smashing Pumpkins in Birmingham as a surprise and said sorry, football. Didn't go down well. Came home to a real angry face greeting me but didn't care, we'd found a brilliant new striker...I thought
