At the end of last season disappearing before the season ended to get his hip op- conveniently as support turned against him. Now Delap & Holden sent out to do every press interview. Is O’Neil being shielded / protected / hiding from damaging an already factious relationship with the fans? As we head into a new season after 2 years of utter apathy & underwhelm, I can’t help but feel MON should be speaking about his vision, what he feels needs to change for a positive season & how we as a club are moving towards that. Instead it feels like he’s hiding. The club seems precariously placed & honestly would be surprised if he’s still manager come new year. Hope to be proved wrong, but the leadership we need appease nowhere to be seen.

Seems strange that his assistant’s keep coming out after games, especially when we have not won

I'm guessing he's deeply tuned into the mess that has been created before him, thanks to messrs Coates Jr., Scholes, Rowett and Jones ... aswell as his own mistakes - meaning he either comes infront of the press/camera and tries to put a lipstick on a pig, or tells the whole truth about the royal mess the club is in.
Frankly, if I was in his shoes I would lean heavily on the owners to come out and spell out their vision since it's odds on he will end up leaving sooner rather than later according to some.

Don't worry, we don't have one of those either do we?

He doesn’t know his arse from his elbow, when it comes to tactical nous and instilling a bit of fight and passion into a squad of players, who ,judging on their recent performances, couldn’t give a flying fuck.

Watched the game today expecting to see a bit more fight, fitness and an actual plan/idea however you want the phrase it, In reality it was a carbon copy of last season minus the likes of Allen, Smith, Fletcher, Chester.
He really needs to go now, no if’s or buts but now for gods sake, the blokes an absolute bell end of a manager and he’ll be hounded out within weeks not months, why wasn’t he sacked at the end of last season heaven knows but once he’s gone the next target has to be junior he’s been at helm and steered us in this direction.

He’s a lot of things, but a bell end certainly is not one. He’s a decent bloke, who’s not good enough to get us promoted. No more, no less. Refrain from the needless abuse if you would.

I've never met him myself so I'll have to take your word for it but he comes across a bit clueless and cardboard in interviews etc. Bellend does seem a bit harsh though.

I’ve never met him either, and I don’t rate him as a manager. He just always comes across as (for all his flaws as a bit dreary and a bad manager for us in the last 2 seasons) a decent guy who’s just lost his way a little.

Has a manager ever been sacked on the back of a preseason friendly?

Has a manager ever been sacked on the back of a preseason friendly? Yes, I remember Tranmere getting spanked in a friendly a good few years ago now and they sacked him the next day or so after. That’s just one I know of for sure, I’ll bet there’s other examples but without looking into it I’m not sure.

MON has been low key in the extreme.
Meantime Peter Coates had blipped off the radar altogether. I mean is he okay?
Strange times.
We've got this '3 wise men' session coming up with JC, MON and the new COO haven't we so perhaps someone should ask then.

I think, in my case, I ‘knew’ (NOT, as they say over here) there were major problems at the club and MON was steadying the boat so, you take the medicine.
Now I am starting to wonder if the problems were way larger, deeper and darken than we though.
It would seem certain past behaviors will be reviewed regarding the club.
As for who would want to manage us next, if we had ever been a chalice it would seem we are a poisoned one now.

Noticed this much more recently, got the feeling this is part of the transition of him going upstairs and us ultimately hiring Holden as the manager

Looking at this forum and those of other clubs, I do wonder why (apart from the money) anyone would want to become a professional football club manager. Must be one of the few jobs where thousands of others think theyt know better than you, know more about the game than you and spend a great part of their life looking to display that superiority.
I think I read somewhere that over 90% of managers WILL get the sack at some period of their career. It would seem to follow that most clubs, when they appoint a new manager, are hiring someone who has failed elsewhere, often more than once or twice. Do these clubs think/hope that, despite his record, that this might be the time he comes good?
Hell of a way to run a business!

Frighteningly your post has just reminded me of when we appointed Lambert all over again! Shudder to think if MON goes & we replace him with.... 🤔🤔 a Graham Alexander, Simon Grayson, Chris Coleman, Tony Mowbray or Chris Hughton type! That's just 5x names I've plucked from a very big pool of has been managers. I'm sure the Coates have already been monitoring closely! Lee Bowyer another name to add to that list, come to think of it there's so many managers who will feel they want to prove themselves and could turn our fortunes around I don't think we'd be short of applicants, but as the saying goes qualities better than quantity! 🙄😬
