I might be wrong but I think it’s just the fact they are stopping the games which is different.
I’ve been to a few games where there has been a medical emergency but they’ve just dealt with it in the stands and not needed to stop the game.

The main difference seems to be that games are now stopped to allow the emergency services freer and more rapid access to the person experiencing difficulties. It might seem a little inconvenient, but if it saves lives, I can't see an argument against it.
On twitter I've seen lots of comments saying there never used to be this number of medical emergencies in or around football grounds. I'm fairly sure there are one or two inside our ground each season. Sadly, there also seems to be one or two deaths around the ground (usually elderly pensioners) each year, either just before or just after the match.

Used to get St John's Ambulance staff involved in the olden days. Games would carry on .

More prominence along with the fact that the most medically qualified people in the stadium are now usually around the dugouts.
Remember when Muamba collapsed on the pitch it took the intervention of someone in the stands. The situation has rightly changed given the amount of money in football. It used to be the case that if something did happen the best placed people to deal were elsewhere in the stadium and having no direct impact on the game.

I'm convinced its a combination of both the Vaccines and Covid itself but more so the vaccines affecting people's blood flow when it comes to heart and brain processes. The amount of heart and brain related illness have definitely risen and are more prominent of late. I'm sure all will come out in the wash at some point

To be fair seen 2 or 3 in the last say 6 or 7 seasons , one outside the ground. Are just stopping games now. A chap had one outside the Harvester the other week which ended up in a pinch up bizarrely due to 2 idiot Blackburn fans.

If they are needed, the new protocol is that the team doctor would go to a 2nd emergency if it happened at the same time.. this is why the games are now stopped. |
