Absolutely ridiculous decision for me Sell your main asset and try and replace him with different options was never ever going to work whoever is in charge

Done a good job overall it it reminds me when Spurs sold Bale and got about 7 or 8 replacements in and it just didn't work. Think it will work eventually but their was rumors that the board wanted him gone last summer so it's not a suprise as a bad start for them. Think someone like Lampard will be offered it but I may stick a fiver on Terry going back there.

Austin Macphee is there at the moment. I wonder if he will make a recommendation?

Austin Macphee is there at the moment. I wonder if he will make a recommendation? Quite possibly but I’d be amazed if McPhee and Shakesphere remain there to be honest. The Danish national coach is being strongly linked along with Gerrard and Hassenhuttl

Pathetic decision
Lose a few games and sack the best manager they have had for decades

Pathetic decision Lose a few games and sack the best manager they have had for decades Sometimes a manager has taken a club as far as he can. They've looked absolutely clueless in recent weeks, not just the defeats but the manager of them. Given their outlay they should be a side looking to challenge for Europe.

The Denmark manager is in the frame it seems, has a decent reputation and it would certainly be left field.
Could be Dr Josef Venglos all over again……

Rarely, if ever, does a sacking signal the end of a younger manager's career. Steve Bruce and Colin Wanker seem to be self imposed retirements and not sure what’s happening to TP. Campbell is the only younger manager I can think of whose career is probably finished.

Given his first 2 seasons, the loss of Grealish and their current injuries five games is hardly the end of the world.

No one seems to think sacking the manager is the answer on here 😂it’s like a parallel universe to the footballing one.

A good decision for who ? The American who’s made a fortune by buying companies just to break them up ? So who will inherit the hot seat, a continental manager to provide the big name that all premier league clubs require only to be booted after 18 months. Pantomime season has started early and I only hope that Smith has the last laugh! I thought the owner was Egyptian Joint Egyptian & USA owners, the American owner has no interest in “Soccer” and is a billionaire Asset broker, his name is Wes Edens and was part of the consortium trying to buy the Morrison supermarket chain.

In my lifetime I've only ever found two jobs where you can be a failure and automatically be offered the same job at another similar employer,, one was a colliery manager (coal industry to those to young to know what they were),, and secondly football manager, absolute stupidity

A good decision for Villa, if it stops the rot and they get a manager who knows what to do with the expensive squad they've assembled. Smith was a complete failure at Villa, I mean turning a clubs fortunes completely around mid season and gaining promotion to the premier league, reaching a FA Cup final and surviving the second season syndrome that’s a disastrous record by any standards ?

That’s not what I’m saying and you know it. He’s done a great job there getting them promoted. But they’ve spent a lot of money and yet seem not to have a clear tactical plan or identity. He’s never quite convinced as a Premier League manager despite a sizeable budget and they’ve looked truly wretched during their recent bad run. Sometimes it’s time for a change, sometimes a manager takes a club as far as he can.

They've looked absolutely clueless in recent weeks, not just the defeats but the manager of them. Given their outlay they should be a side looking to challenge for Europe. Shelf life. Many English football fans just won’t accept it that a group of players sometimes need to hear a new voice to turn thing around. SAF’s are one in a million but a huge percentage of supporters think it’s the way and scoff at teams who regularly change manager and prosper ie Chelsea.

But is he good enough for where they want to be? Where do they want to be? Top ten, he could get them there What are they expecting? Is there a reason, given the owners' wealth, given what they've spent, that they couldn't do what Leicester are doing? Top half with aspirations of Europe while they build that shouldn't be beyond them. In recent weeks he's looked like he doesn't know how to stop the rot.

Losing Grealish was massive but letting Terry go has also been a big factor. I always thought Smith was out of his depth. Probably harsh.

Well that is a new one, so we can expect Gary, Alan & Co to scrutinise and dissect a mangers record in super slow motion using coloured lines to prove that everything was within the game, one day we may even witness a PERFECT SACKING ? Although this will may come from the continent as everything is better there ? Bayern you’ve never been the same since you sacrificed your effigy of Mark Hughes up your arse.
