What a fall from grace, was hoping the lad would get a chance a Palace but no break yet. Hopefully we’ll see him back to playing as he did years back. Shame if not.

I’d take him back right now emergency 4th keeper

I’d take him back right now emergency 4th keeper Only if he was on a "pay-as-you-play" deal with a very, VERY limited normal salary. Even then, I wouldn't to be honest. He'll likely go to Celtic when Hart is finished, or Rangers given that McLaughlin is 34.

He can only dive one way. Can see that being an issue for a top keeper.

How many penalties do Palace get? Don't answer that, enough to keep them comfortably mid-table in the Prem for the last few years.
NB Brighton equalise at 90 + 5, hilarious!
'Patch' Viera should have played Jack, he would never have taken the woeful goal kick that led to the equaliser!

Yes seems like a waste for Butland, going to Palace. Not sure if he will get a chance there, more likely be moved on now they have a new manager. Good Manager Potter, Would have liked him here when NJ (you can see the good work we are doing) Jones got the bullet.

It’s a shame for him. As positive as it has to be to be training each day with better players, it surely can’t compete with real match experience. I don’t know how others feel about Butland but, despite how bad things got, I’m still fond of him. I still maintain that he was pivotal in our first season back in the 2nd tier and that, if not for some standout performances, we could’ve been worrying about relegation in that season instead of the following. But on the flip side it was his calamities under Jones that heavily contributed to that atrocious start to the season that almost led to a 2nd relegation in 2 years. Losing confidence in your GK to make the most basic of saves will inevitably destabilise the whole team. I hope to god we don’t come that close to the 3rd tier again in my lifetime. (Providing old dark humour loving goddy boy doesn’t grant me my wish via a premature death!)
I just feel a bit depressed at how it all went down with Butland to be honest. It was best for both parties when he left but, had his form not turned so catastrophic, I reckon in another universe he goes on to become a long serving club legend. The defining televised images of relegation, and the end of a great era for the club, was Butland sobbing to the defiant howls of “city til I die”. It’s a heartbreaking memory, yet one that beautifully and poignantly says a lot about who we are as a club.

The galling thing is we could have flogged him for over £25m but we kept him, and pretty much gave him away in the end.
Saying that we would have frittered that money away with rowett and jones in charge.

He can only dive one way. Can see that being an issue for a top keeper. Well that’s not a problem, he just has to quickly turn and face the fans and then he can dive the other way. I can see him going similar to Bego, head down for the length of his cushy prem contract sat on the bench. Then get a gig at a newly promoted team, get dropped and then become a starter in the champ once they’re relegated and their other No.1 has moved on. Shame.

When we signed him it was a massive statement of intent, he was by all accounts 'The Next Best Thing' for England, and the deal to loan him back to Birmingham for their promotion push gained us a lot of kudos
It was an unfortunate set of circumstances thats led him him Palace benchwarming. Injury, compounded by loss of form, unsettled management, relegation, and a whole team underperforming
I do wish him well but it looks like he's destined to play second string or first choice in a lesser league

It's a real shame if he doesn't get back to the level we know he is capable of, he was one of the best keepers in the country for a year or so before it all went Pete Tong. It doesn't look like it's going to happen for him at Palace.

Saying that we would have frittered that money away with rowett and jones in charge. At the time virtually everyone was over the moon he was staying, hindsight is a marvellous thing! it is hindsight for a lot of people but this is where I diverge from the majority and I think this is a really good example of it. And I get why people stuck by him but it was nothing but blind hope and the whole notion of not wanting to say a bad thing against someone deemed to be a part of the club. It was clear for a year that Butland was gone but if you dared to say a word against him, you might as well murdered that person's mother from the reaction you'd get. There's no seperation from love of the club/players and what's going on. And I get why people are like that, especially in this day and age where younger fans are always trying to outdo each other to show who loves the club the most on social media. But it totally leads to some massively distorted views on the truth and what's going on. Butland was a massive issue for us and was for a long time. But you couldn't say it without being hounded. And even more worrying is that people at the club couldn't see it. There's no excuse for them missing it.

We couldn't flog him for £25m that was the problem Villa were the only serious bidders for him and they wanted to pay £15m which which would have caused uproar at the time.

Quite the blunder, just now. I genuinely feel sorry for the bloke. It must be horrible going through what he’s going through. It must be entirely mental because he is a more than capable keeper. And it had to be that thoroughly useless turd Adobe who hammered the final nail in his coffin. 😢
