Jacob is developing nicely and is going to torment a lot of defences this season with his boundless energy. He shows all the signs of becoming another Walters. He will be an excellent foil for other forwards creating space for them. If he can continue to develop his ball skills he could become a huge asset; he won't be 24 till the end of the season. His improvement trajectory is looking very good. I stuck my neck out during pre season and said he could be an outside bet for player of the season this term. I'll hang in there with that.

Stranger things have happened. As long as he carries on in the same vein then he’s alright by me. We’ve had/got bigger issues than Brown. Also with the much needed exodus having occurred we will need some squad depth, which Brown may be seen as. I never mentioned him being a problem or an issue that’s a matter for MON. Let’s just say I don’t think watching him would ever convince me to pay to watch him or players of his ability play the game. Can you imagine watching a team with ten outfield players of his ability? I’m not even sure his ball skills are better than Danny Batth and that’s a very low bar. No, but it was certainly implied when you mentioned his ability on the ball. The thing about a team is some players compliment others, some are ball winners versus ball players, some do the running for those that don’t. Glen Whelan is an example of the sum of the parts, not great on the ball, doesn’t spray passes about but will break up opponents play and enable players to get forward who are more useful.

Our Jacob looks like he's been in the gym over the summer. He looked like a different player yesterday

Yes of course I'm aware of all that and that such players are worshipped by some fans and appreciated by many managers. You mention Whelan but I think a more apt comparison would be Mama, loved by many of our fans and obviously a core component of the Pulis promotion team but for me a pretty awful footballer.

Me too. It's the team make- up as a whole that makes for success. You wouldn't want ten Stan Bowles' in your team,, now, would you? (entertaining though that may be).

Don't know if this has been mentioned already, but Saturday was Jacob Brown's first game for Stoke in front of a Stoke crowd.

Some of those flick ons and one touches were thierry henry'esque and his pressure was immense on their dodgy keeper. Fucking brilliant tonight.

I would love to see his stats on the game (distance, sprints etc) he pressed the right back in the 94th minute like it was the 1st.
Absolutely incredible and my man of the match. I can’t help but like him.
I think he’s the new SJW.

Different player this season. Put on muscle, looks aggressive.
One more obvious difference for me, apart from the confidence, is that last season he would always back in to the defender a little and hope they'd miss the header so he could race on behind......it worked about twice. Tonight he challenged for balls in the air, winning a decent amount.
Looks good alongside Surridge. Those two will work very well versus teams that play out from the back.

Superb. He is learning how to run the channels and hold the ball up. Certainly has hit the gym over the summer.

Despite his limitations is there a more committed player. That alone puts him ahead of so many of the wasters putting on the red and white stripes over the last few years. He’s just what we need and a great example to the youngsters. Tired towards the end but who wouldn’t after the effort he put in.

Started the new season like a man posessed. I’ve slagged him off something rotten but he was , again, excellent tonight. Never gave them a minute and their pissing round at the back played right into our hands with him pressing as he did.

The backroom signings have been significant this past year and long may it continue.

You sometimes watch a player and say, ‘’’No’’. You can tell early on they haven’t got what it takes. All the training ground work in the world doesn’t help, it’s down to ability on the ball and in the head.. he doesn’t have either. What really pissed me off last season was MON persisting with him. You don’t get players like him better. Like I posted earlier in my humble opinion he should not be playing forward and need to be a tasked based player. Perhaps right back. Some footballers develop later in their careers, don’t forget brown is still relatively young. Maybe he won’t cut it in the end but I’m not writing him off yet. Just goin leave this here…. 😉
