The difference is that was a few pissed up blokes singing at a football match to wind up the on duty woodentops, and the vast majority of people would find such a song abhorrent. Nowadays it's fashionable to bash the police and a lot of it comes from vitriol on social media that- unlike a chant at a football game- is there for posterity. It's also interesting that- if this forum is a fair barometer- the real hatred for the police seems to come from those on the left You raise a good point. While “hatred” of the police is nothing new (my point) the demographic of that hatred does seem to have changed. Previously (and admittedly simplistically) it was predominately a working class thing, now it seems more middle class - which, as we know is now the home of socialist thought these days (the working class being such a disappointment to our lefty friends). I did read somewhere where officers are assaulted every 4 mins. Equally if not more worrying is that assaults on paramedics and nurses are on the increases. People who’s sole purpose is to help people and care for them.

very sad. Some of the comments on the twitter thread are spot on. So wrong that she’s been so easily forgotten and received so little press attention. RIP. Hang the bastard

cracking post that. It’s like the Essex boys films too where the likes of Tate and Tucker are made into these modern day anti heroes I personally don't believe that kids commit murder because they play GTA or watch films like American Psycho. However, contemporary media is powerful. If our perception of a murderer is positive due to a biopic that glorifies their actions, then as a society we will become more accepting of their crimes. there is a lot of evidence to say that kids are warped by the exposure to violent games and films, a few years back some kid acted out a murder based on a game he had been playing, if memory serves me correctly it was manhunt which was a very violent and twisted pc game where you tortured your targets to get more points an epidemic of young lads watching extreme pornography and believing thats how sex really should be but it could all be coincidence, the american media tried to blame the columbine massacre on the fact the two kids listened to marilyn mason before going on the murder spree, as Michael Moore pointed out they also went bowling before they did it so why not blame bowling too

I'm curious to know if you made the same comment about Couzens? And if not, why not? Why don't you have a look if he did, Bluegle? 😀 Interestingly, Couzens has a whole life term which- for anyone, let alone a former copper- is probably a fate worse than hanging. And funnily enough, Couzens was brought to account thanks to the actions of- wait for it- the police (the law enforcement group not the pop group) Whoulda thunk it? 😯

A gruseome murder is surely the same no matter who dies? Or who the murderer is. So, if you believe in the death penalty, you'd think so, wouldn't you, hence my original question? Perhaps Northy didn't see the Couzens story. Fair enough. Or perhaps he felt differently about Couzens as he does about this guy, which is what I'm trying to understand. Northy isn't usually one of the more highly-strung characters on here who post this kind of stuff, so I'm curious. Maybe he was just as direct towards Couzens and I missed it?

I'm curious to know if you made the same comment about Couzens? And if not, why not? anyone who premeditatedly takes someone’s life especially in the 2 cases mentioned needs to suffer whether in prison or at the end of a rope. The post wasn’t made to start making comparisons between the 2 cases or to use poor Julies life to create some sort of competition it was to say that due to the depiction of all police in the media as being evil and creating this anti police attitude it can result in cases like this where characters like Wheeler through his warped mind feel like there’s some sort of justification to take the life of a totally innocent lady who happens to do a job in serving the community she lives in.

No one asked me Bluegle, it's a public forum whereby people comment when they feel like it. Not a difficult concept really 😀 Anyway, why don't you do one of your Oatcake searches to see if Northwich posted such an item? I know you usually have plenty of time on your hands for these things (even though it suggests a bit of 'whataboutery' which I thought you were vehemently opposed to) 😉

Not sure I've ever seen Northy want someone strung up before (I could be wrong) so I wondered what had prompted such a response this time, and if it was the same with Couzens, and for that matter, all other murderers.

Bluegle- I didn't answer on his behalf as I have no idea whether he did or not- I merely suggested a potential way of you getting the answer you were after, a method you've used numerous times before 😀 Here's me thinking messageboards were for people interjecting on an ad hoc basis, I wasn't aware I needed permission if I wasn't previously part of the conversation. @northwich- apologies if I trod on your toes in the replying stakes, mate! 😞 PS why has Northwich's comment triggered you so much? Stop taking things so seriously, Bluegle 🙂

Perhaps he does regularly want murderers strung up and I've not noticed before? Other than your ongoing bonkers need to start another pointless exchange with yet another person you've taken a disliking to on the internet, I'm not really sure why you're so energised by it all?

Oh Bluegle, you do make me laugh 🙂 I'm not energised by anything on this thread (whatever that means), I'm simply killing a slow day at work by asking you a question just as you are asking Northwich one- and if it's such a pointless exchange why keep contributing to it? What makes your attempted convo with Northwich any less 'pointless' than the one we're having? 😀 Honestly, heed your own advice, stop taking things so seriously and lighten up mate- and it's a shame you can't handle being challenged on an internet forum without making digs about someone's mental health. As someone apparently against name calling, I thought you'd be above all that (given your concern over Partick's interactions with Essex on the other thread). Well done on diverting a thread about a tragic event into another Bluegle ad hominem fest by the way- classic Bluegle 😂

See my response to Northy above. I've said previously I've no axe to grind with the police, especially as individuals doing a very tough job. I'm not so keen when they act organisationally to cover up malpractice or allow themselves to be influenced by politicians or other powerful people. You'd hope it'd be possible to be curious about why someone not usually prone to such comments made one, without triggering some kind of weird response, but apparently not

It comes across as an insinuation about Northys opinion towards the police and if he considers peoples lives less or more important based on their profession. I'm not surprised he hasn't responded. I don't like it when people try to do that to me.
