Do Inter Miami play in the Power League? Can’t imagine those astro turf pitches will help Ryan’s back.

As sad as it is, at the end of the season it is time to say 'thank you and goodbye'. If he wants to and can get it, he deserves one last big payday in the MLS or something like that. I'm sure the local agents have the contacts if he has the drive to do it. We need to be realistic as to where he is, what he is, what he's given us and so on. We need to be very mindful of where we are with FFP and what we have to do with the rest of the squad going forwards. Put it another way, if he had no affiliation with this club and we were linked with him on a free transfer this summer, would we be happy with the signing? A player coming into the squad with recurring back injuries, recovering from a broken leg and had hardly played this season? It will be hard to say goodbye and even harder that we can't be there to do it in person, and he is as close to a modern day legend as you will ever get. There won't be another Ryan Shawcross at this club, but at 33 years old it really is time to go, i'm very sorry to say. ...and yes, i'm fully aware and prepared for the barrage of abuse, sarcasm and ridicule i'm about to receive for this. No abuse or sarcasm - that's a fair analysis.

Seriously? I was there 2 years ago, looked fine, and I'm sure he could afford one of the nicer parts down on south beach area. yeah i really didnt like it when i went, only stayed for one night on Miami Beach but i saw a knife fight on the beach and a large black chap offered to sell me some of his finest shit, i thought that was odd and asked how he transported his shit about, did he do it in a bucket? i went and saw the miami ink tatoo studio and drunks were everywhere on the steps of the post office next door, bars on all ground floor windows were also a giveaway that this was not the safest of places with low levels of crime! having said that the hard rock stadium looked very impressive! Wow. You'd expect a tattoo parlour to be in the best part of town surrounded by bookshops and lovely restaurants. Whenever I arrive at a new town I always head for either the tattoo parlours or the bus station. Especially if I'm only there for 1 night.

I swear we were the ugliest fuckers there - every bloke had a six pack and all the girls were smoking hot in bikinis. There were also a lot of Ferraris and Lambos owned by young guys in baseball caps and beach shorts who clearly hadn’t acquired those cars through honest, hard work. It’s a party city, but a really vacuous one too. Not sure Ryan would like it there with a young family.

I still think he belongs in our first XI. We would regret letting him go.

Would be a brilliant move that. I'm not sure how the MLS works but aren't they only allowed three foreign players in their squad? I think it’s 8 non homegrown players. Three players are exempt from the salary cap.

As much as I love the bloke, it's time to really think about him retiring. Every time he seems to get back in the team he's held back by another awful injury.
Saying that though I'd love to see him stay on in a coaching capacity of some sorts.

He's still the best of the old CBs by a mile.

He's still the best of the old CBs by a mile. I often wonder if he hadn't had that leg break against Leicester in pre season, whether things would've started all so different last season. It appeared, in reports and from pre season that he was somewhere near back to his imperious best and that would've given mad Nath a very solid foundation for this league, would it have made a difference, we'll never know.

I doubt Ryan would even get through a medical these days with his back problems. But I'd like him to stay at the club in some sort of coaching capacity.

I doubt Ryan would even get through a medical these days with his back problems. But I'd like him to stay at the club in some sort of coaching capacity. If he was good enough, yes, so would I! Would probably be a good influence to the younger generation in the academy. If he wasn’t, then meh. I see why former players often sign as coaches at clubs, there’s likely not that much difference between the quality of them and many other applicants, but they have connections. That said, I don’t see the point in Stoke offering him a different contract to start his career as a coach if he isn’t of a certain level at the outset. We make enough bad business practices seemingly, when it comes to transfers.

Yes but not on 50k a week next year! His wage can go on younger players. Why would he be on 50k next year? He won't because his contract ends this summer. That's the point I was making. He may be coaching now but will still be getting a players wage. Next year he won't be.
