Crickey what's happened to the blades? Had a fabulous season last year, but seemingly really struggling with second season syndrome. A team that really needs that 12th man perhaps, and missing its supporters? Of course it's the same for every team, but feel a bit for them.
I bet Derby County are looking on with interest and crossed fingers.

They’ve been punching well above their weight for a couple of years now and it’s finally caught up with them.
Half of this side were playing in league one for them.
Also their recruitment has been absolutely woeful. They’ve spent over £100m since promotion but still rely almost entirely on the players that got them up.

Yes I agree with that but the main change for me is the keeper who’s been poor in my opinion

It's no coincidence that their form's gone after football resumed and they've not had their full support behind them. Their crowd probably got them over the line last season.

Conversely, nice to see Hasenhuttl building on the solid base left by Sparky at Saints. Currently third as things stand.

Spending £19M on a keeper was utter madness when you look at rest of their squad.

They won't win a game all season.
Wilder will lose the plot.
Very amusing.

I wonder how long the new owners will stand by Wilder after the job he’s done🤔or will he walk away?

I was extremely surprised when I caught a glimpse of the match just, that Billy Sharp of all strikers was starting ahead of Brewster. Has Brewster been that bad or is this down to Wilder having a straight refusal of playing him?

Not 100% sure it was the fans, not that they wouldn’t have helped, as their away record was better than their home record before lockdown. They seemed to fall apart after lockdown, starting with that goal that got disallowed when the refs watch went off 3 days later plus their current goalkeeper hasn’t been in the best form this season and last season with Bournemouth. Would have thought all the keeper experts on here would have picked up on this🕵️♂️🧐

Don’t say this lightly but they look Derby County in 07/08 levels of shit. Terrible recruitment this summer - Brewster obviously not ready for this level and Ramsdale reminds me a bit of Butland after his decline; capable of good saves but little command of his area and defence have zero confidence in him.

They're 12 points behind where we were at the same stage of our relegation season. They'll do well to get 20 points.

I think it makes our achievement in doing 10 season against the odds all the more remarkable. It's still not been bettered other than by the top 7 and it shows how difficult it is to get to the "next level" Sheff Utd have spent big money let's make no bones about that, Wilder did a great job last season but the backbone of the team was the ones he brought along with him, their recruitment has been absolutely dire......

Looking at the bottom 4s points tallies 30 points may well be enough this season ....maybe even 28
The average is 35 I think

Their only saving grace is 3 other desperate teams down with them. 30 points might be enough!!

I stay near to Bramall Lane and it was pretty raucous on match day and have been a few times in recent years too, reminds of Stoke when we first got in the Prem. Intimidating for opposition etc. I think without this their confidence has gone and this has exposed other flaws.

I feel for them.
Over achieved last season. Underachieving this season.
Confidence is that elusive but crucial thing in football. They are lacking it badly right now.

Puts our ten years into perspective, especially since we looked nothing like relegation material for nine of those.

We have shown how much Premiership survival hangs on decent recruitment. We got it right for a bit but eventually shot ourselves in the foot. This is going to be a bigger issue for clubs like these after 1st January. They will be caught between two stools, wont be able to compete for top international players but wont be able to recruit emerging or developing players from abroad. They will have to depend on decent up and coming English players like Campbell and Collins. If we get promoted that will be us, otherwise someone else. I think this will massively increase the gap between top clubs and others....again!

I totally agree - and they play championship football still - Wilder is a championship manager at best - way out of his depth in the Prem.
