When you consider United are getting Sancho for £80 million. Sancho is five years younger, has had the bollocks to go and play in Germany, and has incredible output in terms of goals and assists. United are laughing. £100m is an absolutely insane fee for Grealish, the lad is a decent player but for that fee he should be one of the best in the world and I don’t think he is anywhere that level, Man City already have better options than him. I’d be delighted if he proves me wrong though and leads England to glory this summer, can’t see it myself though. It really is best in the world sort of fee. Is he any better than Arnie was for us? Probably more consistent but still. He’s English and people love this Gazza comparison.

His ego vs Pep's ego will be interesting to watch. Why do you say that Doc? Sure, Grealish is an entertainer and has genuine talent. But that doesn't mean he's not capable of buckling down and putting the team first, though?

His ego vs Pep's ego will be interesting to watch. I’m not sure Grealish has an ego as such, he just loves being a footballer Compare him to say Pogba....

He is talented and I really love watching him but I always notice that he is not the kind of player who could offer track back to help his team defensively or press in front when needed.
His contributions are massive for Villa, he is their main man, without him they wouldn't be in this position but for me he still needs to enhance his teamwork skills and prioritize the team and also to be mature outside the pitch because football nowadays is business and everything about the super-stars maters inside and outside the game.

Maybe it's a translation thing. Here we see 'ego' as very much a negative attribute, not just pushing yourself forward per se, but pushing yourself forward to the detriment of others.

A lot of great footballers have to have an ego of some sort.
Ego isn't always a negative for a high performer. Its sometimes necessary. Everyone has a ego, its just a question how you use it.
Funny how British people don't like people who sometimes show their ego. Better to hide it then, if you can!
I cant say I have ever associated Grealish with being over-egotistical, and so what anyway!

You're right, of course, there's them that have a quiet assurance in their ability and then that are just big 'eds. It's not difficult to distinguish between them. Never seen Grealish as a big 'ed.

Man City still seem confident of getting him. Allegedly going to play him alongside De Bruyne in midfield, rather than wide.

Obviously Pep is a far better judge than me but I don’t see Foden’s career long term being wide left. Grealish I feel offers much more wide than he does centrally. I’d have thought the plan would’ve been to play Grealish wide and move Foden inside. What do I know though ay😂

He'll ruin his career signing for them, the players they have there's a good chance he will just be a bit part player coming off the bench

I don’t (and haven’t since they got successful) enjoy watching Man City play. Even when they are walking the ball into the net 7 times in a game. Grealish might add a bit more of the maverick factor that makes them more interesting.
(I must add my City supporting mates think I’m barking mad)

Fair question and I freely admit my interest in football other than Stoke seems to decline every season but I will sit down and watch Leicester if they are on the box. Southampton games always seem to have a bit about them and the title winning Liverpool team seemed to play a brand of football that mixed it up a bit.

Just out of interest.... How many other players careers have been ruined by signing for Man City? 6 So Manchester City ruined their careers? Or was it that they just weren't that good and couldn't cut it or sustain a career at the top end of English football?

Ah right, I should have known that you were taking the piss I agree though with your statement, and in my opinion it's not the "club" that ever ruins a players career, that's too simplistic an argument.

A gamble signing any player and putting them in a new side. Sometimes a struggling player can just suit a different side and totally impress. Players like say Danny Drinkwater stood out at Leicester but personally never thought for one second would do it at Chelsea.

Grealish is currently a better player than Phil Foden. Foden still has time on his side to improve.
His stats with assists and goals are better than Sterling the last 2 seasons.
He will definitely play a lot of games for City and is probably suited to their style of play.
Mahrez was the main man at Leicester and struggled at first to get in the city team but is now a regular. I can see Grealish having the same slow impact but gradually growing into it. As well he will be winning Premier League medals and a regular in latter stages of Champions League.
Pep seems to be buying a lot of English players. For me it can only be good news for the England team if half of them come from City and we try to play the same way. Potentially we can soon have
Stones - Walker - Grealish - Foden - Sterling - Kane
all playing for Man City and England - thats over half of the first-team playing together regularly at a top club with a top manager. I reckon Southgate will be licking his lips.

For 100 million? Drive a Ferrari to practice and play for Pep? Now THERE's a way to "ruin" a career!
I think Pep sees Grealish as a player with the will to keep stepping up and finding a way to get it done. (That's what he's been doing all along, like him or not)

As a Villa fan I really hope he' doesn't go because he's the closest to a irreplaceable player I've seen at The Villa for donkeys,my main reason for optimism is one simple fact,he's said all his career all he wants to do is play every game he possibly can and at City he won't,here's hoping that fact keeps him with us, obviously the fact him and all his family are Villa through and through makes him going a lot less clear cut than the MSM would have us believe
