Gordon Marshall (GK) Cuco Martina (RB) Teixeira (CB) David McAughtrie (CB) Danny Collins (LB) Brek Shea (MF) David Kevin (MF) Davide Xausa (MF) Gerry McMahon (FW) Saido Berahino (FW – apparently) Anthony Pulis (FW) Beat that... I'd switch to a 442 and swap Berahino for Imbula.

I know Marshall was shite but are we forgetting Brian Horne? Christ alive! Played against Cambridge in the League Cup and half the Boothen End were ready to climb the wall to get to him. Punched thin air for Chester's equaliser in a 1-1

Neville southall should be on the bench in this team, wouldn't have been much room for anyone else mind.

I often struggle to tell players apart, but I think I would have noticed a 'pale' Junior This one only played 2 or 3 times...and it was easy to see why No memory of who you mean Can only remember the one Bayern referenced Junior Bent maybe?

Kofi Nyamah must be one of the poorest players in recent times. Bought off Kettering and looked non league in the games he played, just out of his depth. Predictably disappeared into obscurity after leaving Stoke. If you want a bad Stoke player, then you could fill your boots with those 1997-99 squads.

Paul Williams has to be in the mix for centre half. Dead cert until I witnessed Liam Lindsay.

Jakob Haugaard Ben Petty John Clark Stephen Tweed Mark McNally Brek Shea Paul Holsgrove Alan Biley Wilson Palacios Dave Bamber Billy Whitehurst thats a good shout for a shit team, I’d go 4-3-3 and take Biley out and out lethal Keith Scott up front I’d have Berahino and Wimmer on the bench for the shear fact they were 30 million combined and despite being marginally better than some on here, but for pounds versus value they were terrible

I would like to see Pericard in the team, I’m not sure we had a Premier a League player that I think would have struggled to get into our Division 2 side as much as he would. Jason Kavanagh is one that sticks out in our lower league time as struggling. Totally agree with you on both. Regarding Pericard, what I don’t understand is why the f#*k Pulis bothered to sign him? He had him at Plymouth. He knew how bad he was!

Palacios in his later days with us actually had some really good cameos from the bench.
He was an awful signing as a whole package but I don’t think when he played he was that shit.

Tex was worse. I watched him a lot for the reserves tbf so my judgement is skewed by that. He was like when Haugaard used to play in them, he'd make the side much worse despite being an experienced player. Here’s another Mark Higgins His name immediately sprang to my mind when I first saw the thread title.

Yes it will be, good call Junior Bent, another example of how over rated pace is. Pretty sure it wasn't, but then it might have been Demar Phillips... my memory is cloudy I guess I did get it wrong. the only Junior I can find in the records is Gabriel N'Galula Mbuyi who is Belgian and was on loan here in 2006/6. Played 22 times, so was probably decent. Mind, if you look for Junior you may not find anything . Phillips made 4 sub appearances...and was shite

Agreed, he was also playing in the top flight, so I’m not sure we can count any of our ex premier league players when we have had people playing for us who were non league standard in years gone by.

John Tudor. Played as a forward for Stoke in '76/77 and scoring three goals in 30 league matches. It was a relegation season but still dreadful. Two of the three goals also came in his first match for Stoke against Ipswich.

Didn't Bamber have one ridiculous spell of scoring in home games? He reminded me of Jonah Lewie, in looks and footballing ability to be fair. I liked Scully but was about 6 and any player that twisted and turned was a genius in my eyes, would have helped if he took the ball with him though I guess. Re Bamber...no I don't think so. He certainly missed more absolute sitters (courtesy of Beagrie and Hackett) than any striker ever, even more than Keith Scott. We started 89/90 playing good stuff but drew the first seven games and could never catch up. If we had even an average striker we would have won at least 4 or 5 of those 7 and gone on from there. Scully... might be a bit harsh he didn't play much, thought that least one of Kamara's bizarre gambles should be in there. Bamber was the worst striker I have ever seen. Worse than Tony Ellis. Worse than Keith Scott. Worse than Billy Whitehurst.

Stick Diego Arismendi and Maurice Edu on that list. Arismendi showed what he could do when he played against Valencia. There was some talent there that’s for sure. Arismendi was being directed into position by Dannny Pugh in the cup game I watched. He was as lost as the time he wandered int The Golden Lion looking forward a Drum’n’Bass party in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Wiki: Whilst living in England, Arismendi was branded a 'noise pest' after forcing his neighbour to move due to hosting late night parties. Last known club: Montevideo City Torque sponsored by Snap-On

Keith Brook. Edit - sorry Gary Brooke. Although I can recall calling him many different things.
The alarm bells should have rung considering he was the only pro footballer with one lung.
There’s a reason pro footballers typically have two lungs.

I wonder what happens with some of these players. Strikers like Dave Bamber and Tony Ellis are hailed as legends at other clubs they served but live long in the memory for other reasons with our own fans. We have always seemed to be up for giving has beens & past it’s one last pay day. Gidman, Higgins, Stewart, Gabbiadini, Southall, Gudjohnsen, Owen. Can anyone remember Decker Statham???😳😂
