His job was to stop the opposition going straight through, something none of the other midfielders (Badou maybe) could do. Then give the ball to Stoke players. Dull job but he did it. The fact is someone playing that role should never get man of the match but he did, deservedly, because no one else did there's very well at all. Disagree completely. Reading attacked us at will at times and only due to the fact that they are shit stopped them from creating better chances or even scoring. Also disagree with your assumption that nobody playing defensive midfield should ever be a man of the match. Try telling that to Makele, Fernandinho, Kante etc. I hate how people just assume that others cannot see what a defensive midfielder brings to the table when they are trying to justify their role in the side, because when a good defensive midfield player is on it, everybody can see exactly what they're bringing to their side. Makele... very rarely won man of the match, can't say Fernandinho does either. They get plaudits as an aside after the other players. Kante is different as he does that job and the terrier midfielder as well at the same time. Reading didn't get in behind us once in the entire game, they made no chances at all they were nullified/fucking wank. Sadly Stoke were exactly the same.

Not by Cousins they weren't, he was completely anonymous mate. And I'm pretty sure you understand my point about good defensive midfielders, without them having to be named man of the match.

Played a Whelan-esque role in that game, I'm not saying as well but that is definitely what we've missed... Above all else he was absolutely disciplined.
You can only have someone doing such a thankless task if the two players infront have atleast an ounce of creativity, though without pace on the wings and a striker who moves their job isn't easy either.

If we are relying on a player of Cousins quality to play CM we will really struggle to finish in the top half of this league.
Jordan Cousins was released by QPR (19th in Championship) for an obvious reason.

Before we think about the top half, let's worry first about getting out of the bottom three. Cousins acting as anchor, with a returning Shawcross behind him, hopefully will give us the solidity to at least keep us reasonably competitive, whilst we deal with the duel issue of selling the more saleable "assets" to balance the books/staff/wage-bill.
How no heads have rolled at the upper echelons of the club over the mess we are in financially, absolutely beggars belief. If the manager can avoid FFP penalties, and also avoid relegation, he's a fucking genius.
