I spoke to a Charlton fan last week and he wasn’t scathing he said he works hard and is ok if he keeps it simple.

I thought he had a good match again as did Smith when he came on. Looks much more likely than Edwards & a better footballer.

He was ok today, but the reason he is motm is because most of the others were a disgrace.

Can somebody please explain to me exactly what he did that made him MOTM?
I know it was a piss boring game of football between two wank teams, and nobody particularly stood out, but what in gods name did Cousins do to warrant MOTM?

We definitely need a song for him from the undertones tune "my perfect cousin."

I don't mind him based on what I've seen so far.
He does at least fight for the ball, unlike Woods, who runs as fast as the average person walks and couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding.

Yes Cousins has looked decent in these last 2 games.
Let's see how he gets on when we play a mid-table or above team.

He will never be appreciated for the job that he does.
It's just a shame that the other two in midfield couldn't control the centre of the park when we needed them to step up.

If you call it 'least shit man of the match' you've got your answer. To be fair, based on his last 2 performances he looks to be Nathan's best signing.

Was certainly one of the better players today but I would question the need for a DM playing a poor side like Reading who came for a point.
I would much rather have seen 2 up front

You're spot on there..unfortunately. Is his best position really "holding midfielder"? He gets dispossessed far to easily and too many times he just fannies about with the ball. Another £6mill? wasted.

What he does is the thankless job, does nothing special or fancy. He protects he back four and when players get dragged out of position he fails the gap. Maybe the reason we had two clean sheets, maybe some won't see this. Glen Whelan done this job for many years with no thanks, we only missed him when he was gone and never replaced him. Anyway bigger tests to come and hopefully he can step up to it. Need to keep more clean sheets, it's the just the players in front of him need to up their game.

In the first half yesterday, Reading cut through our midfield as if it wasn't there, it was only because they were completely useless in the final third we didn't concede. You use Whelan as an example, but I could see Glens contribution most weeks, good or bad. Cousins, in my opinion, did absolutely nothing to affect the game in any way, shape or form. He wasn't the only one.

I thought we had Glen Hoddle on the pitch with a couple of those cross field balls. He’s done well for the last two games.

Cousins has done well in the DM role he’s been told to play in the last 2 games. Snuffed our their attacks and protected the back 4 well. I much prefer him to the ineffective Woods who surely has to go in January.

He did his job I'm assuming his job was to have no positive or negative affect on the game then. His brief must have been to sit in front of the back four and do nothing of any note.

He wasn't the only one. We've played plenty of shit teams earlier in the season without getting many clean sheets. Two clean sheets in Cousins' two games since being restored to the team might, of course, be coincidence - or it may not. I suspect his presence protecting the back four and doing the simple stuff well, may have been the key to our lack of goals conceded. And it is the ridiculous number of daft, completely avoidable, goals conceded this season which is the major reason for our presence in the relegation zone.

Mmmm
There was a case for Didier Deschamps ...the water carrier in a side awash with flair ...cantona ginola etc ... The antidote to an excess of flair
I am not sure we really have so many flair players , we need a poor man's Deschamps to balance the midfield

I might be in the minority but i don't think he was ever as bad as made out. There were other midfielders who were as bad or worse who got a free ride.
He's not great but at least he adds a bit of physicality as the experiment of Woods, Allen and Clucas had absolutely no fight in it.

I'm assuming his job was to have no positive or negative affect on the game then. His brief must have been to sit in front of the back four and do nothing of any note. His job was to stop the opposition going straight through, something none of the other midfielders (Badou maybe) could do. Then give the ball to Stoke players. Dull job but he did it. The fact is someone playing that role should never get man of the match but he did, deservedly, because no one else did there's very well at all.

Reading attacked us at will at times and only due to the fact that they are shit stopped them from creating better chances or even scoring. Also disagree with your assumption that nobody playing defensive midfield should ever be a man of the match. Try telling that to Makele, Fernandinho, Kante etc. I hate how people just assume that others cannot see what a defensive midfielder brings to the table when they are trying to justify their role in the side, because when a good defensive midfield player is on it, everybody can see exactly what they're bringing to their side.
