Christ only knows why they're in this ridiculous mindset where they apparently only have access to the axe from international break to international break and everything is frozen in between It's absolutely bizarre. I have just asked Spinksy that very thing FM For me its a good excuse to do fuck all Get to the international break, no league football for another 2 weeks, everyone forgets about how crap we are and looks forward to the next league game. Old pissy slippers can go and play chess and illiterate can go and drink bottles of Carling with Dicky Smith and reminisce about playing Luton away and the PMT bus getting bricked whilst avoiding any responsibility whatsoever. Whats all the fuss about?

Whether he wins against West Brom or Barnsley, it's obvious that they're keeping him until the next international break at the very least. I think even a heavy defeat against West Brom wouldn't be enough for him to be gone immediately. They'll keep him till the next international break now but I doubt very much if they do sack him that they'll have a replacement lined up. It'll be even more of just scurrying around almost pleading to anyone who'll take the job.
I personally think if they're really forced into it their "default sacking date" is the January transfer window, but by then we might well be in so much trouble (even more than we are now) that we're into Paul Lambert type manager territory again.

Martin, can you make a call to Peter Coates to take charge of the situation and end this awful reign of this manager. He has to go this week for the sake of the club. Get Martin O Neil in. Look at the man’s record, and he would get the best out of everyone who played for him, and could actually organise a team to play and understand what they are doing. (Don, Birches Head) Peter Coates is a big fan of Martin O’Neill, or at least he used to be, not too sure these days.
If there was a change Don, you suspect they would have to go down the route of an experienced figure such as the one you suggest.
When will the board realise that our great club is heading towards League One and when will they do something about this? (Simon, SoT) As said below Simon, there is an international break after Albion and Barnsley, that’s when we may get an answer at the current rate of regress.
How much longer can this terrible drift within the club go on for Martin? I think anyone with an ounce of insight understands that Nathan Jones is not working, and is out of his depth. No amount of false promises about how much “good work we do, and how hard we work” can cover over the fact that he is simply not up to the job, and never will be. (Wes, Sneyd Green) One thing is for sure Wes, more and more of those who actually like Nathan Jones are finding it difficult/impossible to defend him any more.
He needs a result, no doubt about it.
When will Jones finally leave? (Craig, Nottingham) The end is nigh if he doesn’t win at least one of the next two Craig.
What angers me is the lack of communication from the board. It's silent. Just nothing on our precarious league situation. (Stuart, Trentham) Tbf, we do ask Stuart, and tbf Tony Scholes did come out of the closet, so to speak, last week, but there isn’t much they can say on the record at such a delicate time for the club.
It’s pretty much a no-win situation for them, just like the players right now.
How long can we go on with Nathan Jones as manager? Results are amongst the worst of any manager in our history. We are in serious trouble and we seem to be happy to go on as it is! (Matt Robinson, Longton) The only thing I will take issue with there Matt is that the owners are not happy, not happy at all, but have clearly shown far more loyalty than most out there would do in similar circumstances.
Even the manager has frequently admitted as much.
Why are we even having this discussion, it is plain as day that Jones simply has to go. I am sure that there is a moderately competent manager out there who can improve on the chaotic mess we have now. (Dev, Northwood) My tummy concurs Dev.
Why the silence from the board? This is the Mark Hughes situation all over again. We will go down if they keep standing by the clueless manager! (James, Tean) Addressed the silence issue below, James.
Interesting how the board has reacted with different speeds to different managers, but then again Hughes influenced Rowett and Rowett is now influencing the Jones situation to some extent.
How many international breaks is this man going to get before he gets sacked? (Robert,Eaton Park) The good news for you Robert is the fact there’s no more international breaks until March after this next one.
Why are they so seemingly hung up on turning international breaks into these artificial moments of decision about a sacking? There's a week until the next game - today is perfect. We've already seen more than enough. (Tom,Stoke) It’s a question of stability Tom and giving the new man a bit of time, all owners would say the same.
The lack of communication from the board must mean that they are happy with our league table situation then? This is the only conclusion I can think of Martin. (Derek, Cheadle) They are definitely not happy Derek.
As for the communication bit, as said before, they probably feel they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
Their silence also suggests the managerial situation could change very quickly, that’s the kind of territory we are in now, sadly.

His reply to Craig ( Nottingham) is interesting Crazy if they are judging his job on a match to match basis rather than something long term We went down that route with Hughes and it ultimately relegated us

The international break reasoning doesn't sit well with me, the man is taking us down, make no mistake and the gap is widening down at the bottom. Is there a more indecisive club on these isles than Stoke fucking City.

The owners will get what they deserve when we're relegated to League One.
They should have sacked him weeks ago...this is now on them.

In your opinion Martin, if Peter asked and the money was right - would TP come back? (Jack, Bucknall) Yes, but only if he thought he had enough time to save Stoke from relegation because the last thing he wants/deserves is for people to remember him for sinking into League One with Stoke rather than hauling them into the Premier League.
He’d probably also want an assurance about some expenditure being at his disposal in January, to sign two or three more centre halves.

If we're keeping him, we have to stand with him long term. Not over 2 or 3 games.
If we're going down the route of needing results over the next 2 games then we may as well start the fat old plodder merry-go-round now.

(Jason, Didcot)Put it this way Jason, if I was the owner and thought Tony Pulis was the best man for the job, I’d tell both Tonys to like it or lump it and simply get on with the bigger issue of saving Stoke City Football Club this season. So no, I don’t think the presence of Tony Scholes would prevent Tony Pulis saying yes, nor would his arrival leave Tony Scholes asking to leave. It’s a big club, they could easily avoid each other if they needed to, certainly in the short term. When N j is sacked sooner or later who would you like to be the new manager? (Dave W, Birmingham)I’ll plead the Fifth Amendment Dave. We still have a manager and even if we didn’t, I couldn’t possibly queer my pitch with the next one by advocating somebody else. But, surely, if there is a change, the situation is such that it must be somebody with experience, some kind of record at this level and who is capable of knocking this dressing room into some kind of shape. What is the likelihood of the board actually having a replacement lined up if they do eventually wake up and sack Jones ? (D.Clarke)Strong possibility.

I don't like where these conversations are going.
I would respond :- Id rather not have him either BUT. I cant think of anyone else who could shake the place up to the extent that it might actually turn this shit show around and, prevent relegation
and Scholes out, no matter where we go next - is a given
Im just imagining Tom Ince now, running up and down some tall slippery local hill in the freezing cold with a sack of coal on his back
( was that Lou Macari tho ? )

We have no striker who can do that. He plays with wingers. We have one suitable to TP, and that is McClean. He cedes the midfield, which contains the best players in our team. He invites pressure onto the defence, which is the part of our team most capable of stupid mistakes when under pressure. He'd send us down quicker than Jones. We'd score less and concede more.

you dont know he'd do that - he'd ceratinly change some of the players therefore, the observation is even more hypothetical than my own
and - for instance
spose he put a rocket up that Vokes fellas arse and got him playing to his potential ?
I could see that happening

I could see that happening Based on what? I'm basing mine on TP's tactics for the past 30 years, and the fact that he hasn't done a good job anywhere since he got sacked from WBA. He's a dying breed, and not before time. Even if he got Vokes firing (which I'm not sure how he would manage), we have no-one who could give him service in a TP formation.

Inviting more pressure onto your defence who make constant mistakes, and sticking them even deeper than usual is not going to help that.

I think we would because he’d drill them and drill them and drill them until they made far fewer individual mistakes. We’d create nothing at the other end though, as you say we really don’t have a spearhead striker that suits his system or proper wingers. Then we’d be stuck with him and an outdated, autocratic model that’s the polar opposite of what the more forward thinking sides at this level are embracing.

When the poll started for the new manager I was looking at who's style of play would be best suited to our squad. Thought Hughton and Moyes fitted the bill, but they seem out of our reach. Alan Pardew, however....

First question: Only question in town: How on earth is Nathan still in charge? It's beyond farcical. Every single point could be critical come May. (Steve, Stoke)Hi Steve and thanks for kicking us off. Well, it’s safe to assume that the Swansea win saved him and then the Fulham win bought him more time. But now those back-to-back defeats at Sheff Wed and now Millwall have thrown the spotlight back on the manager, particularly the manner of Saturday’s defeat, and he knows that. My best guess is that the owners would like to get to the next international break before having to make a decision, so that’s Albion at home and then Barnsley away before that break. Barnsley away is a bit like Huddersfield away was, but there was only four days after the Huddersfield defeat to the next game at Swansea and that spared him, before the win at Swansea saved him. Is there any chance Pulis would be offered the job with Scholes still at the club? (Jason, Didcot)

It’s a big club, they could easily avoid each other if they needed to, certainly in the short term. How could they avoid each other when one’s the manager and one’s the fucking CEO? Pint of what you’re on please Spinksy... Exactly! This isn't a spat between two 10 year-old siblings. Pulis's hand is influenced by support from the CEO in securing transfer deals for the players he'd want in January. They can't avoid each other any more than you can avoid a fart in an elevator. Anyway, Pulis doesn't have to like or lump anything. If Pulis demands the removal of Scholes as a condition of joining and Coates refuses, then he's not joining.

I can't believe we are still discussing if/when Jones will leave, this is beyond comprehension, utterly bonkers. Whatever happens to this club now is firmly in the board/owners territory (Not Jones's), in reality is was months ago but with 1/3 of the season gone and just 2 wins , 2 draws and 10 losses and second from bottom it is gross dereliction of duty, incompetence and lunacy on the part of the board. It's Rip Van Winkle territory.
