“Rotten to the core” suggests skullduggery, malpractice, etc. What a s**t title for a post. Do you honestly believe that NJ and his team represent something that is “rotten to the core”? Where criticism is warranted be constructive or does constructive criticism not hit the headlines or personal agenda’s? There’s not one supporter who is more bitterly disappointed than me with our present predicament and the probable reasons behind it. Dont take every opportunity to try and whip up some hysterical negativity about everyone and everything......it’s not helpful. No it doesn’t. People can still stink a place out by complete accident and it be sheer incompetence. That’s what has happened here. Incompetence and complacency. The club is a festering mess that needs change to sort it. Jones is the mere tip of the iceberg.

At some point though the credit in the bank the owners currently have surely has to run out.
What we achieved over those ten years was incredible but in the same breath makes our current plight so unbearable. We literally had the world at our feet and we blew it, relegation without a whimper and a categorical disaster of a season last season.
How low do we have to sink before we realise that despite everything they’ve achieved, the board are no longer capable of running this club successfully.
I’d hope the day never comes but in reality, I genuinely believe that day could not be too far away at all.
They are NOT beyond criticism.

Alternatively you can carry on with you one man crusade by endeavouring to create an anti SCFC cult following that in time will be ridiculed.

Or I actually want this shit to stop and to watch a football team win a game of football. It’s not anti anything and if you think that then you’re a bit thick. None of this over the last 3 years has been anti anything. It was done in the hope it could stop this shit happening.

How ever people can say we are rotten to the core is beyond me. We have some of the best owners in the country and yes they have made some dodgy decisions but at the end of the day they are local people who care passionately about the club. Yes you all hate Scholes but did he fuck up and let the ball go under or through him, what can he or Coates do about that ? We are going through a terrible time but no we are not rotten to the core , but we certainly have some rotten fans with short memories

the complacency that arrived after the Liverpool semi is still there, whoever seems to play for us or however hard managers try, i'm at a total loss to think how we move on from tonight right now.

I think Peter Coates is a man who loves the club as much as all Stokies do ....he’s as bemused and disappointed as we all are in the results, I know that for a fact ..you can’t criticise him for trying to do his best for the club he’s thrown loads of cash at it and still is ...he wants to see stoke back in the prem, and so do we all. Nathan Jones is a manager that I believe will turn the club around, it may take a while and a lot of sweat and heartache, but I for one will always support Stoke City, there is no other team for me, So I will keep supporting Stoke and do my bit by singing even louder...As they say Rome wasn’t built in a day ...so we must rebuild our squad with players who have the backbone, and fight we need ....and then try to teach them about the diamond formation , which will probably be awesome once we get it working ...hopefully

People don’t want to hear it but it’s 100% true and has been for 3/4 years. This club is rotten to its very core. The issues lie deep and it will take a deep clean to solve them. We’re on the verge of a 5th manager in 2/2.5 seasons. That is a club that has deep, deep issues. Will sacking Jones solve them? No. Will it keep us up? Maybe. But changes at the top have to happen for this club to change. Make no mistake that this will get worse before it gets better. Exactly how many people are there at the top? From what little I know, the executive team running the business comprises Old man Coates, his son, Scholes and the manager of the month. Maybe Coates should admit he has lost the plot and put the team up for sale before we are completely done for.

I understand how a previous poster believed that the title of this thread implied some sort of corruption other than "rotten", more of an illegal / fraudulent aspect. I don't think that the OP was implying any illegal activity whatsoever. Having cleared that up - I agree that the club is rotten to the core.
We have seen how attempts to improve things from the manager downwards have failed - it is time to look up to the managerial decisions of the owners.

Let’s be honest. PC has never run a big corporation. BET365 was started and has always been run by Denise using money she borrowed from her father. All he’s ever run himself is a catering business and a few high street betting shops.

Whoever is top of the tree is responsible for what is happening. Jones has had enough time but the problems at the club are so deep rooted no amount of talent in a manager is going to change things on the pitch. This situation is going one way - just look up Sunderland!

It is time that focus is not at the roots, but at the top of the tree.
Having said that - there isn't a damn thing that we as supporters can do to change it.

That's a metaphor taken literally. The problem sits with the leadership and their problems are so deep rooted not even a manager with gold star talent will make a difference.

All companies are run by management teams led by the CEO. Even though Stoke is not strictly speaking even a mid-sized company, let alone a big company, Scholes can’t run it by himself. Who else with business experience is in the management team? Scholes has been at Stoke since 2004. Before that he was at PNE. Maybe this job has got too big for him.

It wasn't too long ago that I had to explain to you kustokie that PC didn't actually own and control SCFC.
Please stop acting as if you are/were some top level management executive. You mention golf clubs and airport lounges too much. You also know zilch about management.

I'm not going to argue with any of what you say. The thing I can't square though, is how the "deep, deep issues" manifest themselves between a Saturday and a Wednesday? We had improved in every game this season, from a poor start admittedly. Against Derby there were still problems at the back but the players looked like they really cared and we were unlucky not to win. How do the deep issues and general malaise at the club re-infect the manager and every fookin player in the space of four days? One half decent performance does not represent any kind of fix. Yes, we were much better on Saturday, but we still tossed away what should have been a comfortable three points. We look fragile, both physically and mentally and a better performance papered over a few cracks. Those cracks were ripped wide open tonight, and I don’t think Jones knows what the fuck to do next. It’s clear that Butland’s head has gone and his heart isn’t in it, and he should have been dropped. How the fuck Allen keeps getting into the side and manages to survive game after game without even a hint that he might get hooked is beyond explanation. That’s on Jones, and it’s probably going to cost him dearly. He’s signed a crop of players who are nowhere to be seen after four games (Cousins, Powell, CCV, Duffy) - I’m assuming these are all players who were brought in to fit the system, yes here were are with a line-up that has not the first fucking clue what they’re supposed to be doing. His failure to sign an attacking left back to fit a system that relies on attacking full backs is bizarre. We’ve got no pace, no bite, no functioning midfield and a defense with more holes than Tupac’s torso. That’s not something that was ever going to be “fixed” after a 2-2 draw with a shit Derby side.

As I understand it, he had a catering business (one of clients was Stoke City FC) and some High Street betting shops. He either sold or borrowed against one of his betting shops and gave the money to Denise to start an online betting company. I have no idea who Scholes’s direct reports are. That’s why I am asking. If people are calling for a clear out at the top, I’d like to know who they are what they do. If a new CEO is brought in, that person will probably want to bring in their own people. Coates has trouble firing people because he values loyalty. He had great deal of trouble firing Pulis and Hughes who had been in place for much shorter periods than Scholes. So I can’t see him giving Scholes the boot, and Scholes is not going to resign on his own because he’ll have trouble finding a similar position, given his recent track record.

Coates family are good owners, when it comes to employing managers they are not good, in fact they are, quite frankly, awful. Xenophobic, Dinosaurs are probably the best way to describe them. They conduct interviews for the job like they are recruiting for an HR job: as in if the potential candidate shows enthusiasm and have a good knowledge of their subject then they have a good chance of getting the job - that is, of course, their native language is English and their passport says British. They obviously like NJ and gave him the pre-season even though he had a woeful record in the 2nd half of last season. It was a massive risk and a risk they did not neeed to take and once again it seems to be back-firing. If you were looking from the outside you would think they are trying their best to get us back to tier 3 football, where they once took us before. Sadly they are not trying to get us relegated - they are actually trying their best. Good owners but with a woeful football nous and seem to be clueless with all the failings and antics that go in within their club. I still would not swap them for the world

The issues lie with players and a manager who although a nice person, is fighting a battle of a disunited and fractured dressing room not pulling in the same direction. Maybe the players don’t respect Jones and we need an established coach to command respect of the players? Coates is not rotten to the core. It’s some rotten individuals who have turned the dressing room upside down.

After Gr was sacked i spoke to a member of his coaching staff, he said " There is something definitely wrong within the club but he could not put his finger on it" spoke highly of Coates family but definitely something wrong, he even asked me , who knows F**k all, what Cartwrights job was, all academic now i know, but just shows something aint right. Personally i wonder whether we need get rest Allen and Butland and take them out of first team picture to see if the team attitude changes. These are only 2 so called Premier league players left.
