www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-newcastle-united-gayle-3133257Only the signing of a Dwight Gayle, it seems, can now prevent Tyrese Campbell remaining at Stoke City next season.
Jones remains in the market for a greater cutting edge in attack and Gayle's position at Newcastle is still being monitored by Stoke.
But his fee and wages might mean having to part company with a senior player at the bet365, possibly another striker, and no bids have yet materialised to give Stoke that option. Is it conceivable that we're going cheap elsewhere, in terms of fees, to save up for a spend-up on Gayle, who we see as a real difference-maker? Or not? Back in for Dwight Gayle, early but promising

£20M is way too much for a 29 year-old Newcastle reject. I certainly think he is a good player and for half that price he really would be worth considering, but £20M is really daft. NO PL club is willing to pay close to that and that says it all I think. I would certainly look elsewhere if we were to splash that kind of money!

Surely if we get 20m for Jack, and the frees we've picked up, even if we got Gayle for about 15m, with the others we can offload for fees and or wages, we'd still be in a good position to spend more.

I have a nagging suspicion his status as a ‘proven Championship goal scorer’ would come to an end the moment he pulled the shirt on.

I wouldn't go to £20m Could see the argument for £13m-£15m though. He isn't 29 until October. 60 goals in 101 games in this league, at a goal every 127 minutes. You'd think we'd have to somehow get rid of Afobe though? And can't see us being able to do that

Once we sell bojan for the £300,000,000 we know he’s worth we should haggle for gayle

Maybe no Prem club is willing to pay £20m or thereabouts but is that because it's not about the price but more that he is not thought good enough for the Prem no matter the price? But for a Championship club, he would be more than good enough?

I would deffo be happy with this, every time I’ve seen him he’s looked really good, maybe a deal to be done let’s face it we’ve spent big on players before I just think next season has to be a big push for promotion and that will need a proven goal scorer.

Might not seem much but at a guess is 9 million a year in wages off the books.

No way its 20 Mill upfront... perhaps with installments such as if we manage to win a promotion.

Badou Ndiaye as a makeweight is the only reason that number makes any sense at all. £8m cash difference is about right.

£10m up front with a further £3-4m if we’re promoted would be about right.
There’s not a cat in hells chance anyone in the Championship is paying £20m for anyone.

Gayle is one of those players I expect to dive during the handshake. So long as it gets us a penalty!!! That's my problem with him. Couldn't accept a player diving to win us a penalty. The fact that other teams do it etc not an excuse. Would have real mixed feeling about that. Anyway, cross that bridge if it ever happens. Chances are the penalty will hit Mavis in Row G anyway.

At least he is quick and knows where the goal is
There is no reason why you can't have a player in attack, who lacks pace but can get you goals... Eg winding the clock back a fair few years... Peter Crouch of the old Crouchy / jermain defoe double act
Crouchy and jermain defoe was actually a proper attack
Vokes or lee Gregory alongside no pace is not
If we don't sign gayle, then we have to splash out on another pacy striker, and pacy strikers who know where the goal is, are always expensive
We can't start yet another season with no pace up top. That's a mad idea doomed to failure.
