Surprised how much stick he gets. Not had a good season true but, wasnt he 'player of the tournament' at a recent Euros and made a big contribution for Wales at that high level and yet seemingly, to many folk on here, not good enough for Stoke City anymore which, I find quite strange really. (mind you I havent seen much of him recently tbh).

Recent is pushing it a little, but that a side what does he do, yes he works hard no ones debating that but he's not particularly outstanding at anything, because of that and his lack of positional discipline unbalances the squad, he's not a DM he isn't an AM and wonders too much to be trusted as a straight forward CM, I don't think it would be to difficult to replace him with someone that fits better into a system.

Yep, the arrogance of looking down upon Wales who came as close to winning a tournament as England have in my lifetime. How many caps did say Joe Hart or Theo Walcott get? Giants of the inernational game of course is that apart from the World Cup semi final England got to last summer where they went out in extra time having been 20 mins from the final, or 11 mins away from pens to get to the final? Appreciate Wales got to the semis of Euro 2016, but beat a fairly poor Russia and Slovenia (that I understand we did not!), lost to the worst England side since 2014 ;-) , beat a poor N Ireland side, and credit beat chokers Belgium in the QF before being battered by Portugal in the semi. It was a fairly poor tournament for most of the 'big teams' full stop. In my lifetime, I have seen (so can remember!) England missing out on a QF place in WC82 having been drawn in a second round 'group of death' with Spain and W Germany, QF in WC86 robbed by Maradonas hand, SF in WC90 on pens, SF in EU96 again missing out on pens, QF in WC02 in Korea and a Brazil wondergoal, QF EU04 and Ronaldo/Pens, QF WC06 again on pens to Ronaldo (and the wink/Rooney sending off) So yes, England have had some duff periods in between, but that history in my lifetime is a little beyond Wales having one good tournament, and indeed the only one they have qualified for? Remind me how we did in our 2 games at the World Cup against the Belgium Chokers? Didn’t we lose both of them?

Allen going off for Wales v ROI in Cardiff to determine who made the WC play offs turned that game as he was bossing it. Ended up losing 0-1....I won't mention the matchwinner as the sheep will be off spouting their stuff 🙂

Good player Joe A very respectable player in any mid-table PL team.
Players are clearly made to look better by those they play with, as an oft over-looked skills in football is that of being a good "receiever" of the ball. An interesting take a book called the "Numbers Game" pointed out the importance of having a team of good receivers being stronger than that of having good "passers". Short of your exceptional players, most pros can pass a ball 10, 20, 30 yards with similar aptitude - but the difference is often the vision to understand space and time well made runs to allow your team to keep possession and also win possession in dangerous areas.
Joe is no Messi or Pirlo - but he a decent short and mid-range passer and a good receiver of the ball - always showing and trying to find angles and space. However, in a role of recirculating the ball and prompting attacks, he can only ever look as good as the ability of the players around him to receive the ball. In those positions, whether its been Fletcher, Adam, ECM, Maclean, Afobe or Ince around or ahead of him - we seemed to have accured players who are either immobile, lazy, thick or all three. (since we lost Arnie and Shaq (and SJW beforehand))
I also think he has formed a good relationship with Pete. I know possession isn't everything, but it is correlated with winning, and since those two have found their feet, our possession stats have been gradually on the up. Them two - and add, say, Sawyers - and I reckon the collective movement would dominate most Champs games. (It would be the Champs equivalent of Liverpool's MF.) But we'd also need a more mobile front line.
My fear if we sell him is not that's he irreplacable, but that the other way of winning games is width and power - and that's not the route NJ is going down.

Crikey, are people still arguing about Joe Allen???
He's to Stoke what the EU is to British politics.

How long has the window been open!! I for one hope they stay, however the manager really has to get more out of both players in terms of goals and assists. Joe Allen I think has only scored one goal under Jones and Etebo worryingly has just ONE assist!!

He'd struggle to get a game for Wolves. Fake news. Regular starter come August then no doubt , great move for him professionally and domestically , Nzonzi all over again once he’s gone , Jones thinks he’s a key asset, wonder what that contract says on exit fee .

Joe has been a good player for us but I would take 10-12M for him and re-invest it.
We need a John Eustace type player. A leader in the middle that can score a few goals. Joe does everything a bit MEH and doesn't contribute enough in our build up play and creativity.

Again, if the calibre of team looking to sign our players is Wolves or a decent mid-table outfit, then we have got to be looking at making a profit...
If Wolves are genuinely after Allen, £15m sounds about right.

He'll get a few games in the Europa League and League Cup if he goes.
They desperately need a bigger squad if they don't want to sacrifice their Prem success.

Nothing like Nzonzi. Nzonzi oozed class and controlled the tempo of a match. Allen is technically pretty decent but doesn't dominate a midfield or offer enough to build a midfield around him.

We'll be a better team without Joe Allen in it Seriously though, I like wee Joe, his tenacity and work rate is second to none..... But there's something I can't quite put my finger on that makes me also think he's a weak link!!! Still.... I can't quite make up my mind whether I'd prefer him to stay, or wish him well elsewhere!!!
