You will never find a post of mine where I have condoned homophobia All forms of abuse based on a person sexuality or colour is completely wrong So why do you hate this shoelace thing then?? What’s to hate? Where in my first two post have I stated I hate anything let alone multi coloured shoelaces All I have done is state that in my opinion certain things should be kept in private

You will never find a post of mine where I have condoned homophobia All forms of abuse based on a person sexuality or colour is completely wrong But you haven't shouted it from the rooftops, mate. You have to, even though it's stating the bleeding obvious. You can't point out hypocrisy and double standards, or if you do you have to do a cunting article on it or get called out for a lack of evidence. Even if you did it wouldn't be good enough. It is virtue signalling, and you aren't the only one who finds it ridiculous. Is the poppy virtue signalling? Do you think that is ridiculous? As far as I can see, either both are pointless virtue signalling or neither of them are.

I just don't like this culture of "Look at me, I really care" that goes on lately.

Who's 'them'? I'm fairly confident that gay people don't go around in leather caps and assless chaps, so how do we know they're not already going to football matches in numbers? I'm also fairly confident that putting rainbow colours on corner flags and substitution boards is pointless virtue-signalling window-dressing that will make no difference whatsoever to the number of LGBT people who decide to attend football matches (like anyone else they probably decide whether to attend based on opposition, cost, weather etc, not what colour the flags are). The point I'm making is that most people these days couldn't care less about homosexuality- a community that has a bigger platform than it's ever had- and while myself and people I know wouldn't look twice at a same sex couple going about their day, virtue-signalling stunts like this do tend to produce a rolling of the eyes and the occasional "Here we go again" comment. No fits of rage though- sorry. When I said them I was referring to people like you. I totally get the sentiment about virtue signalling, but to react strongly enough that you would feel it necessary to start a thread on an online messageboard protesting against the campaign sort of suggests it has ruffled your feathers a bit? I suspect a lot of it is pointless, but would be good if there was just some way everyone showing their solidarity with gay people, given that football appears to be about 30 years behind the rest of society? If that were not the case, why have not footballers come out yet and why has the head of the FA warned them against doing so? To deny football has an issue with this is just absurd when you look at the facts. Gay people might have a 'bigger platform' in society in general, but that is clearly not the case in football, hence the idea behind this campaign. I don't profess to know what motivates gay people and as a straight person I wouldn't claim to speak on their behalf. However, if some of them felt uncomfortable being in an atmosphere where homophobic insults were thrown around left right and centre, then whom I am to call them a 'snowflake' for that? It is hard to complain about the 'here we go again' comments when you are the one orchestrating them. You have a choice. You can either sigh to yourself because you think it is all pointless and has been hijacked by rich corporate outfits who don't really care, join in and try and show solidarity with the original principles behind the campaign, or else moan about it publicly and try to work against it. Maybe the campaign will have no effect at all, but I am pretty sure people like you constantly creating negative vibes around it won't help the cause at all? And if, as you say, you are genuinely not bothered about this issue, why not just shut up about it? Kindly expand upon 'people like you' if you can mate- it's a little ambiguous and suggests aggression towards someone who has a different viewpoint to your own. You say it's 'ruffled my feathers' Phil, all I've done is copied a link from the official app, posted a couple of paragraphs and let people 'run with it' (at the risk of sounding like Mark from Peep Show). What I haven't done is compiled a short essay such as your last post, which I will read properly tomorrow when I'm 'compos mentis'. I appreciate your input, although you do seem to be edging towards 'passive aggressive' a bit. And let's be honest, a thread on a messageboard isn't going to affect the campaign one iota, so where's the harm in discussing the issue as adults on a forum?

Certain things should be kept private. But the media don’t agree with you unfortunately.

Imagine there being a 4 page thread of people complaining that some footballers are wearing different shoelaces to show solidarity for a group of people that were imprisoned for homosexuality until as recently as 1967 in the UK, and have only been allowed to marry since 2013.
4 pages worth of whining is exactly why these campaigns are needed. It shows the ignorance perfectly.

The poppy represents a way for people to show their respect for the sacrifices made by those fallen in conflict. Many of those who fought and fell could possibly have called themselves LGBT if they were alive today- it's hardly comparible with trying to entice people of a different sexual persuasion to go a game of football just to get a few more 'likes' on social media.

It shows the ignorance perfectly. It goes to show that we as a country are progressive then, albeit later than would be expected. However I seriously doubt that rainbow laces will accelerate acceptance for identifying as this or that. I bet if you saw a gay couple at a footie match or a trans person and made a fuss out of it that they would appreciate it, and in fairness the ones who would enjoy the attention may be insincere in their motive for being ‘different’. What should happen in my opinion is that anyone seen to be abusing these individuals should be punished in order to set the standard of acceptance and clamp down on intolerance. For me, rainbow laces does none of that. But as I’ve said already, wear whatever laces you want, as long as I can watch nogger unimpeded then I’m not fussed.

But why should we feel obliged to follow a set of rules dictated to us by 'the media', mate? We shouldn’t. But a headline of Premiership Footballer Comes Out will sell papers and that person would get loads of homophobic abuse online and possibly also in the terraces. That’s why no footballer has come out yet. Whilst that fear for a gay footballer exists, everyone should show solidarity in the fact that is awful.

I think you will find ladies football no one cares about anybodies sexuality. It's no one in Men's game will come forward. Gareth Thomas, Tom Daley have had no problem within their sports. I really don't care who shags who just wish we could get a prolific scorer to perform week in week out. Now shut that door. What a gay day it has been on this message board. It,s all done in the best taste. there seem to be a lot on here who are awful but I like you. Gareth Thomas had no problems?... think you may need to do some research on that one.

We all know, even if the majority say "I don't care about what they do behind closed the doors" that the first openly public gay footballer in this country will get abused week after week from the terraces. The issue, from what I've seen from other sports won't be from within the club/dressing room but from the terraces. That's the sad thing from my point of view, narrow minded nonsensical "cavemen" types who still find it funny to bang on about the IRA and Man Utd players dying decades ago.

They're still abused, discriminated against and demonised in several areas of society. It's not a stunt to raise awareness of something that is still a problem.

I preferred gays before they started getting hysterical. Gays used to be hard! People who had taken the brick bats of society & stood proud. Proper subculture individuals that had something interesting to say. Now it seems that instead of homosexual, we’re all homogeneous & dull. Back to the point, yesterday I took my son to watch Paulton(The team tha Ashley(Gay name)Barnes used to play for) V Larkhall & I bumped into a gay guy there who aside from supporting Larkhall, supports Walsall, went to Stoke Polie in the 80’s & went watch Stoke when we were $#!t(Oh, hang on) So what I am saying is that gays do footie, but why do we have to make a big song & dance about it, I mean, it’s not a £@#&!n musicalXx🌈

Here’s a controversial one. I recon there were a few gay/bi guys in the Naughty. It isn’t something that they would discuss, but pretty obvious. Remember, Stoke On Trent is Cockney rhyming slang...
