Get one, two or all three of them in.
We have a midfield and strike force to really compete, and a goalkeeper good enough to play in the top flight.
The defence is our problem.
Ryan has been an unbelievable servant to stoke. A legend in fact, and I don’t say that word lightly. But he’s off the boil, maybe not permanently but he needs a break - so it’s time to replace him for now.
One of the freebies could be a new Gerry Taggart or Robert Huth (literally) to stop the rot.
Maybe. Just maybe we could even try and keep a clean sheet. As unbelievable as that might sound (I know we did vs Hull and Huddersfield). Ryan can’t play 90 minutes every game, he’s good enough but whether it’s confidence or injuries catching up with him - give him a breather and bring in some steel.
Huth and Morgan won the premier league because they’re a brick wall - heading, kicking and tackling all day long. Very British defending - we need to do that, so bring in some old heads to Marshall the defence.
Get that right. And we get it right.

I'd get Caulker, he's got his issues but it means we could give him a short contract probably and he's quite quick if nothing else.

I know people have said to avoid Huth but if he could stay injury free (I know...), how could he not improve us, even at his age?

Collins, maybe.

The topic has been done to death, especially regarding Huth, but it has to be said once again that we CANNOT risk going until January with 3 injury prone and cumbersome centre backs.
There WILL come a time when we see Darren Fletcher slotting in. No one wants that....

Apparently he was outstanding for Dundee last season and looking on Wiki seems to be without a club at the moment?? Clearly a very talented player who has attracted interest from big clubs in the past and still only 26. As you say he has issues but could be worth a gamble.

We would be better giving Souttar or the other young lad in the u23's a chance, the one that played for Ireland in the youth tournament in the summer

Caulker and Collins I'd take. Huth is done, he can't pass anyway and now he's old enough to not be able to move. Kids are a better option.

I can't believe Caulker is still only 26.
How come he's not at Dundee anymore?

Caulker wasn’t very good at Cardiff, was worse at QPR and has been plying his latest trade at the equivalent of EPL div 2, but yes he’s the answer. In his heyday Huth has little pace, but we moan about the lack of pace that our current defenders have? Collins? Perhaps.

We have a Collins on the books already, and he's a central defender!
Nathan is probably a better ball playing defender than some in the first team right now (and the last ten years),he 6ft5 and Irish, and he comes from a long line of central defenders in the family. But although he's already playing above his level in the u-23 and at international level, throwing him in among a bunch of slow legs, at 17 it's probably too soon.

Never particularly rated him to be honest but then again I'd never really rated Robert Huth until he signed for us, so you never know. To be fair, he'd have to go some to be as bad as the current incumbents we've got in his position.

Play 3 at the back out of Martina, Williams, Bruno and Erik, get Moritz back at right wing back and McClean or Clucas left (when fit).

Reading between the lines, he was short of suitors last season, went up there and excelled then perhaps understandably thought to himself that he has his mojo back nd is ready to play at a decent level again. He'll get picked up soon enough by a Champ side.

I see he's a free player at 26 which means he's definitely fucked up somewhere down the line, just wondering where it went wrong for him? He was a real bright talent a few years ago.

Couldn't be more wrong i'm afraid. Leicester did win the league with Huth and Morgan. You ask any Leicester fan what they think of either of their credentials as first team players now. Huth is absolutely knackered. As for the rest, this league requires pace and players able to keep up with the opposition. I'd rather staple my eyes shut watching more old defenders in the Shawcross lump mold. As for the others, I don't see any clubs banging on their doors to get them in. Must be a reason for that.
