The thing is by the time they are match fit we would be close to January Good point, we might as well leave it until January. Agree. We've got 3 very experienced CB's who should be able to cope until January despite what some on here say. If they get injured Martina can cover (I think) or Souttar should be given a go. If he's not up to it then he should have gone out on loan in August and we should have got another CB in then.

I'd give Huth a chance too, he was better than any of them when fit but that's another story!

Few times I've watched Stoke this season the one thing that has stood out to me is how casual they are in possession, when you are getting dispossessed all over the park then defenders are going to get caught out of position and be left looking silly but for me its harsh to blame the defence when its been the midfield that's letting them down.
Don't think things are as bad as is being made out and the signing of woods seems to have fixed a lot of problems in the middle as this guy just doesn't lose the ball, I wish we'd signed him at the Swans that's for sure.

I'd get Caulker, he's got his issues but it means we could give him a short contract probably and he's quite quick if nothing else. What issues does he have? I see he's a free player at 26 which means he's definitely fucked up somewhere down the line, just wondering where it went wrong for him? He was a real bright talent a few years ago. Has apparently had problems with alcohol, gambling addiction and depression. he would be a classic 'Dogs Home' case if (like Matty Etherington) we could get him anywhere near the player he was expected to become when he was a teenager.

Etherington was the perfect example of a player with tonnes of talent that just needed the right environment. We took a lad who was totally pissing his career away and arguably had him playing the best football of his career. I would love to do the same with Caulker. Looks like he might be on the way to Ukraine though. Won't fix his problems.

I think Caulker is too young to waste time in a country like Ukraine.

Get one, two or all three of them in. We have a midfield and strike force to really compete, and a goalkeeper good enough to play in the top flight. The defence is our problem. Ryan has been an unbelievable servant to stoke. A legend in fact, and I don’t say that word lightly. But he’s off the boil, maybe not permanently but he needs a break - so it’s time to replace him for now. One of the freebies could be a new Gerry Taggart or Robert Huth (literally) to stop the rot. Maybe. Just maybe we could even try and keep a clean sheet. As unbelievable as that might sound (I know we did vs Hull and Huddersfield). Ryan can’t play 90 minutes every game, he’s good enough but whether it’s confidence or injuries catching up with him - give him a breather and bring in some steel. Huth and Morgan won the premier league because they’re a brick wall - heading, kicking and tackling all day long. Very British defending - we need to do that, so bring in some old heads to Marshall the defence. Get that right. And we get it right. I sat at a table in the Waddington Suite last season with a gentleman who had an interesting perspective on why Huth left. If he’s right (and I have no reason to doubt him), Huth is never coming back to Stoke.

I heard a rumour too but can’t be the same one as Hughes isn’t at Stoke anymore so the coast is clear Come on..,. Tell all

Assuming Rowett isn't sacked and he needs to turn the back four around, then he might need some more personnel. I hope Souttar is given a chance and he takes it. If not, here are our choices until January:
Right Backs: Glen Johnson Jesus Gamez Michel Dennis Diekmeier
Left Backs: Carlinhos Florian Marange
Centre Backs: James Collins Papy Djilibodji Diego Polenta Phillip Wollscheid Robert Huth Frickson Erazo Russell Martin Florentin Pogba Serdar Tasci Georgios Koutroubis Chris Samba Sebastien Bassong

Feckin' Wolly? I don't think now is the time to be criticising anyone on that list given our paucity of options at centre half or left back. Certainly not one that played a huge part in a depleted back line that got us to 9th in the Premier League. Looking back, the signs were there weren't they? Shawcross and Butland out, we finished 9th in the Premier League and got to within a whisker of a Cup final. It seems we didn't miss them as much as we thought. What has happened since should surely cement that thought.

Sebastien Bassong has been on our radar for a very long time, wouldn't be surprised to see him join the club in the coming weeks.

I can't understand what the problem is down Stoke???
It's plainly obvious where the biggest problem lies on the pitch.....and STILL we're reluctant to do anything about it!!!
Of course, it'll all be left until it's to late, and Collins will end up elsewhere!!!

We should be all over Caulker. Even if only on a short term deal to prove himself. If he go’s to any other club in our league, and it seems teams are interested, i guarantee him being a success. We probably arent even aware that he’s available.

A player who is available in a position where we are weak as piss and it doesnt look like were interested. You just know a rival will snap him up and he’ll go on to have a good season.
