My problem is,although ever the pessimist where Stoke are concerned in the hope that they'll surprise me, they haven't the last couple of seasons. I was filled with doom and gloom at the start of the last and I don't feel much better now. WE shouldn't have needed a wake up call. Worse still, we looked as clueless and lacking in belief and confidence as we did last season. We've lost Grant, soon to lose Butland(and even if he doesn't get his, ahem, 'dream move' his head will be all over the place like his shaky hands at the week-end. I don't get our tactics, neither it seems do the players. There still seems to be a huge cloud of despondancy hanging over them. We really needed a good performance and a great result to zing us back to life, but predictably we capitulated. I just don't see this changing I really can see the season going spectacularly t1ts up. Something has to happen to snap us all out of this. The slippery slope is very difficult to scramble back up once you've skidded unceremoniously to the bottom with all eyes upon you. I hate to be a mongerer of doom AGAIN but I really think we're in freefall. f, I went to hit Like but then thought, let's ask each other again in 3 months? Ever the semi-optimist... sal,the optimism has been drained from my being where Stoke is concerned. This compounded by the fact that GR has conceded in all likeliness to having the loan route as Plan A. Wasn't it he himself who said he wasn't a fan of loan players as words to the effect of their commitment levels were questionable? Oh dear, this really will be a LONG season if we don't get our act together. I will say again, do they have sports psycologists working at the Club? I really think it could be necessary to work with some of these players. I mean, some of the World's top sportsmen and women have used them when mental attitude was impairing performance so we should as well if this really is part of the problem. Maybe the problem is just a 'can't be ar$ed, agent get me out of here' one though for a number.

'agent get me out of here' was visible at Leeds for sure - wonder if that will change for the better or, God help us, worse post-deadline??

Oh my god one defeat and this comes up, please give it a rest It wasn't just a defeat though, was it?
A complete and utter embarrassment for 90 minutes
A bit like the 1-3 capitulation at home to a youthful Villa side towards the end of TP's reign in many repects.

We got lucky from a stupid brentford error today but have completely outplayed us for 90 minutes. We are in deep do do

With how the team has performed so far this season, why was there so much optimism coming into the season? Was it just the fact that we appointed a new manager and managed to hold onto most of our players from last season and that fact that we went down a league?

As mentioned already, I’m hoping we’re just doing a Newcastle and that things will click soon, and that the bookies know more than us.
However, the guys in the final score studio have suggested we might be in for a tough season, and Liam Lawrence has just said that this team doesn’t stand a chance of winning the league.
It’s starting to look like we might need to drop a league again to have a season where we win more than we lose...
I’d be very curious to know how Newcastle’s performances were in that opening run of fixtures the year they pissed this league.

It’s the second game so who knows.

There's definitely 3 sides we'll finish above, said that last season but Christ that shit shovelled up for us today was a bad as I've seen in a long, long time it was totally pointless football devoid of any ideas whatsoever from over paid con artists with a board of directors that are kidding themselves and trying to fool the fans.

I think 80/1 is way too big a price for us to get relegated but I don't think we'll go down. Mid-table is quite likely though, just because there's a lot of moving players out to do.

Funny how that reply sounds strangely familiar! I got slaughtered for saying the same last year. Having followed football for 40 years you can tell when something ain’t right at a football club.

I can't see this team doing anything as interesting or dramatic as getting relegated twice in a row. We're far too dull for that.
