Lots of false promises from the powers that be, i think GR has been dealt a shit hand and he has got to work with what he has due to the incompetance of cartwright and scholes What incompetence, the incompetence that got us Etebo, Ince and Afobe? The incompetence that cost us our PL status last season, the incompetence that has left a squad full of useless players who no one else wants and are hindering our chances of signing other players, the incompetence of allowing your best players to leave on the cheap every season and the fail to replace them properly that sort of incompetence !

I don't except at all that a "major overhaul" ends with changing your manager. Most managers bring their own back room staff with them, so there's nothing unusual in Rowett bringing his own. If they were going to simply change the manager, then they would have said, they were simply going to change the manager. The fact that they DIDN'T simply say they were going to change the manager, means that a "major overhaul" has to be defined as something more than that. If Benji Biscuit had posted on here, the day after the club made their statement, that he believed we would start our opening game of the season with Berahino leading the line, Fletcher in midfield and Ashley Williams at the heart of the defence, then people would have hounded him off the board for his negativity. Let's hope Rowett is bluffing at the moment. Agreed. Think you meant accept.

For me yes - we were all thinking Butland, Allen and Shaqiri all leaving. We've kept 2/3 and made some good signings. The only disappointing thing is we've not been able to get rid of some of the passengers, but that isn't that surprising and to their credit it h asn't stopped them spending.
I assume this is an 'all in' promotion attempt and things will be much different next summer if we don't go up

At the moment I don't think they have delivered on the promised "major overhaul".
We've retained some of the players we ideally wanted to keep but thought we'd lose. We've signed some players who will hopefully strengthen and improve us. We've got a manager who knows the league and will hopefully get us a playoff place at least
We're still stuck with most of the dead wood that nobody wants which is stopping us bringing in further new signings We're subsequently still short of improvements in several key positions We're still stuck with the same CEO and TD who presided over our relegation.
I realise Teflon and Hoss are seemingly bulletproof but we desperately need to get rid of some/all of the dead wood to free up space, AND ensure we bring in the much needed LB, CD, CDM, and striker. No more excuses from the "transfer team" - no more " we really did try to sign a striker", or "clubs are difficult to deal with" etc etc.
We all know that all (any ?) of this isn't going to happen but if we do seriously want promotion then we should do as much as possible to enable GR to have a really good chance.
At the moment 7 out of 10 for me. Good start but important work still needs to be done

Have to agree but no mention of the non-playing staff who should be on their way especially the three amigos. The owners need to sit down after the loan market shuts in August and work our why they are so inept? heads need to roll including Teflon. This club needs new direction and image.

This club needs new direction and image. ‘We’re still stuck with the same CEO and TD who presided over our relegation’ - isn’t that a mention? Agreed that one of them at least should have paid the price with his job. Fail to get up this year and there’ll simply be no excuse to not get rid of them both.

We are desperately short of creativity. If Afobe is out we're back to the usual suspects. Seven out of ten.

Let's hope Rowett is bluffing at the moment. Spot on. I feel there is still a whiff, if not a stench, of complacency lingering around the club and I'm frankly underwhelmed with this "major overhaul". We've changed the manager and backroom staff, that was inevitable and a given, no surprises there but not the root and branch changes I hoped for, though it doesn't surprise me. Our transfer activity has been very mixed, very good signings in Ince, Etebo and hopefully Afobe, but Williams and McClean! We still seem to have an unbalanced squad lacking pace and cover in key areas, we lack guile and creativity and still have too many players who are past their best but still seem part of the managers plans, due I believe to the existing structures within the club that should have been overhauled completely to bring in a competent, forward thinking, efficient management structure (Scholes/Cartright). Our player recruitment process is ponderous, muddled, safe (in the worse sense of the word) and lacks imagination and as a club I think we lack imagination, a coherent plan, an efficient management structure and a singular and overarching vision to move the club forward long term. We play it far too safe for a club of our size and resources and that has been a large part of our demise as well as our lack of real ambition. I'm sure Rowett didn't expect to be in this position at the start of the season, everything he has said pointed to a team with pace, energy, balance and a blend of youth and experience, hopefully he is bluffing at the moment. It's going to be a very tough season, anyone who thinks we are going to sweep all before us needs to think again. We have been fortunate to keep the core of our team and we must congratulate the club in that respect but we seem to have kept the core of our problems as well and that is disturbing.

I can’t believe we haven’t signed another striker yet...
Crouch - Too old. Diouf - Not good enough. Berahino - Waste of space. Afobe - ?
As things stand, I just can’t see us scoring enough goals to gain automatic promotion.....So the answer is NO!

Sums it up for me but i would give them 6 out of 10 unless we address glaring gaps in the team we can forget going straight back up. I don’t think we will see any major investment unless we sell a major asset because wot we our seeing is an exercise in balancing the books.

The incompetent board and transfer team are still in situe.

Not in the slightest yet but there’s still time. The clock is ticking and the time is fast running out, we are at least four players short of where we should be and that's a conservative estimate. From the evidence of pre season we cannot score, struggle to create and cannot defend for 90 minutes today will be an indication if that is just a blip.

Lovely sunny day, first game of the season yet we still have cunts like you stinking out our club. Fuck off you wanker. You are not a Stoke fan, never have been, and never will be. Being unable to shift the deadwood is one thing, and understandable as nobody wants them.
Actually relying on them and playing them in the first team beggars belief.
