Getting rid of our second best striker on the eve of a new season, with seemingly no replacement lined up - sounds like a Stoke thing to do. Replace him with a lampost. We'll be no worse off. Despite him being disconnected from play 90% of the time, he still managed to score 5 goals last season. The same as Choupo - who some would still play this season. We've finally bought a winger in McClean who wants to get balls into the box, getting rid of Crouch now is madness.

Stick a lampost on the 6 yard line and tbe ball would probably hit it for 4 goals per season. It will probably be offside less and concede fewer free kicks as well.

We still have Pieters at left back though, so no chance of him hitting the lamp post...

Talking of lamp posts we had 6 surrounding that St Pauli guy at the weekend as he scored! I agreed. The defending on that goal was pathetic and more than a little worrying. Some say it was a meaningless game; not so because it served to highlight some hideously obvious weaknesses. Diouf had a similar opportunity and managed to side foot it into the ground and over the bar from less than 5 yards out. That takes a lot of effort to perfect that talent.

As an aside Dave did say we were going BIG for a striker if we could get a BIG one out.. Make of that what you may!

It seriously was a lot harder to miss. You try to lift a football over the bar by bouncing it off a grass surface from 5 yards out.As you say it takes some fuckin doing.

I like Crouchy but he's too old and not good enough if we're looking to get promoted.

I like Crouchy but he's too old and not good enough if we're looking to get promoted. But for the sake of the mentioned 500K he’s worth having on the bench for when it’s 0-0 in the 80th minute and we need a goal

If we keep playing him. only when we take the wingers off , we might as well sell him.

We should have better than him to come on from the bench... 500K plus wages saved. Don't get me wrong here, I think Diouf and Saido are a waste of space too, but at least they have age on their side.

There are pros and cons to selling/keeping him the biggest con to keeping him is that he is probably one of the top earners still. I'd guess around 40k per week? it's difficult to fathom how that's sustainable in this league for his age and the fact he's potentially 3rd choice. if it suits him and the club and we find a replacement then it makes sense to part ways. More like 60k - 70k a week I thought he signed a new contract not too long ago? Surely that was on reduced terms for a 36 or so year old?? Plus the wage cuts for relegation. I'd be astounded if anyone is left in our squad and still on over 50k a week.

Something along the lines of he's a great guy to have around, experienced and gives defences something different to think about - he has no immediate plans to sell him. Crouch knows his career is nearly over, he isn’t going to move just to sit on someone else’s bench and it would not be a significant pay rise. Add to that euro travel when he’s got kids and Sunday games sat on the bench. A longer commute.
Why go.
He should end his career at stoke

So if what has been vaguely hinted at by Davesviews occurs and we end up letting Crouch go and bringing Gallagher in, would we be happy? I can personally see Crouch doing a job at this level even though he is pushing for a bus pass in Footballer years. Gallagher is young and tall but doesn't inspire me, had 1 in 4 for Blackburn and considerably less for everyone else.
