Simple question really, would you have any one else's quality of squad before ours?
I think Middlesbrough have to be up there. West brom, Swansea as well.
We have good individuals but as a squad completely I think were only mid table worthy.

I don’t think any club have better.
However, Mboro clearly have the best manager by a clear margin and consequently our squad has to be better than theirs to overcome this gap.

I’ve heard he’s been pestering the squad who saw the Beattie incident to see if anyone filmed Pulis coming out of the shower.

They have a good group of players but that's then emphasized by the quality in terms of manager getting that extra 20% out of them.

I also think we need to get some players out to balance the books. I think our first choices in all these areas are looking very good at Champ Level - Pieters, Shawcross/BMI, Afobe respectively. The issue would come with any injuries to those so we do need more depth to have a really great squad. That's especially the case in the centre back position because we can't rely on Shawcross being fit any more. I also think it's too soon to comment on how good our squad is until after the window shuts. We've done a great job tying down Allen & Bauer, but a few disappointing late exits could still happen.

There’s an argument that quality wise Villa have the best squad.
That doesn’t always count for as much as it might in the Championship.

Maybe on paper. Like having the most CL winners in the squad, ultimately it accounts for zip. Look at Cardiff last season.

The obvious answer is no.
We are used to losing and couldn't find the goal if someone gave us a map with the best route.

NO we are nowhere near the finished product. Top 5 yes. Things will get better after a few hiccups. We are all in for a culture shock and we need to hold firm and ride out the storm. We are a big target for most clubs in the Championship.

We've clearly got some really really good players for this level. Squad's a different matter..
Noted from Wolves that 18 players played 15 or more games last year. If 7 players outside the first XI are playing that many games, the squad needs to have quality in some depth, or it will affect performances. For us, like many, we are missing 1 CB, 1 CM, 1 additional goalscorer.
Down the years, promoted and high up teams often have 3 players who get 10 or so+ goals wise (We had Lawrence, Creswell, Fuller - while Cort and Shawx gor 15 between them). Wolves = Bonatini, Jota and Cavaleiro got 9. Cardiff Paterson, Zohore and Hoilett. They tend to be 3 from the 2 x strikers and AMR or AML
Afobe and Ince and ECM, perhaps for us? but ideally can't bank on the latter two and so a second striker/AM would be good - now that we've plumped for Maclean who will run a lot and harry and defend but nothing to suggest he will score or create many. Bojan could, but 75 games in 5 season or whatevers it is suggest to set expectations cautiously and hope he delights us by exceeding them. One of Forestieri, Vydra, Gayle, Lawrence, or someone like Woodburn on loan.
The other factor is - Derby, Brentford, Boro, Villa et al have been learning about this league and practicing systems to conquer it. We were late doing our business and teams that go up do most of their business early. So the question is how quickly can Rowett get us to gel too. We might end the season the best squad but not start it that way?

Our first eleven might still lack this 15+ goals man in my opinion, but we have players that could surprise us of course. Defensively I really think we are threadbare to be honest as we have no decent replacement in central defence, except Cameron, nor at left back.

I can't answer OP's question because I don't know enough about the other clubs, but we can definitely strengthen in some key areas before the new season begins. If we don't sign a new striker then we're going to be too reliant on Berahino becoming the player he's capable of being. The past tells us that it would be a foolish gamble to pin our hopes on that happening.

Individually we have the best players but collectively we're still unbalanced.
We're overloaded in midfield, short in defence and have too many forwards who are not good enough. I think we'll make 1 or 2 big signing before next weeks deadline.

Like him or loathe him Pulis has a proven track record getting to the PL !, Rowett has done nothing yet we will see I can see Pulis taking at least four points off us again.

He's had 100% more than GR fact. He’s been a manager for 3-4 times as long. And when he was our manager you moaned your bag off about him constantly. Now he’s gone you make kissy faces at his very memory.
