One striker away from a promising team Afobe will score a hat full with the right service and our back up strikers will do a good job with the the right service. .... And our defense will be water tight against the right opposition ...

That wasn't the point of the comment. Caerpotter said that we need another striker. I don't think we do but yes, I do think we will be tight at the back in this league.

As far as I am concerned, we have a better squad than Chelsea right now! I certainly would not trade. OK then ... 🙄 A little explanation. My Dad was a huge Chelsea fan. (It nearly killed him when we won the league cup!) When he died, I tried to "support" Chelsea as my PL team (remember Stoke were in the 38th division at the time). About 2 months after I learned their player names and what position they played, Abramovich took over. At first it was great ... Millions and Millions to buy whoever they wanted. After about a week and a half, I was bored stiff. I said a quiet "sorry, but No Way!" to my Dad and went back to the exciting normality of acquiring superstars like John Halls. So you see, I really would not trade Stoke's squad for Chelsea's, simply because then Stoke would not be Stoke!

It really doesn't matter how good a squad we have. Our squad last year wasn't bad but we were relegated.
What we need is a good team not a bunch of individuals however talented.
Let's see how they gel on the pitch.

We may be able to put together the best starting XI (if Jack and Badou stay), but our depth is shite. If people start going down we're in trouble.

We have by far the strongest squad and also a bucket load of cash to throw at it. We will piss the league without a shadow of doubt. The question is will we reach 100 points

We look like having the best first XI - depth could be an issue if injuries hit early to key players, with the heavier workload of this league.

We are miles off a promotion squad as things stand , unbalanced , and strong 💪 n parts but chronically lacking in others , midfield creativity , midfield holder , goals , centre back cover , left back cover , as things stand we do well to make top half

Let's see how they gel on the pitch. Generally agree with the principle - but its hard to escape.... a) Teams at the top will have 2-3 players who score and/or create 12+ goals b) Generally. you are only as strong as your weakest link in a team - last year, we didn't have any strikers that threatened the opposition. (And until N'Diaye, did not have enough midfield energy and strength) And for a time Wimmer was hopeless. Add a striker who contributed 10 goals to last year's team and have N'Diaye from the start, and i think we'd have escaped, despite the dysfunction.... So, would suggest you do need individual players of a certain ability - including 2-3 game changers - and a blend of skills as individuals - and then a team ethic and plan that they buy into, to be successful..

Something like 6 champions league medals, way more than other teams. I agree it must be a bad squad if we cannot make a team from it

Absolutely agree, there must be talent in the team but that talent has to be in tune with the others. Sadly what we had was badly managed and there were gaps that were blindingly obvious to most of us for at least 2 seasons. Still worried where the goals will come from.

It’s gonna be a slugfest the whole season....question is do we have the fight for it? Quality always rises to the top eventually and on last seasons showing most of them didn’t want to know.
A good start is imperative and if we can maintain that up to Christmas and perhaps add on in The January transfer window we stand a chance
Realistically I think we’re top 10
Please prove me wrong Stoke!

Agree - it would still be great to pull Gayle out of the hat and would feel more confident about the goals too

I believe we have the best squad by a country mile. Doesn’t mean to say we’re going to “piss” it. Just think ithe squads a bit thin. Still time though, plus loans after August 9th.
I’m optimistic, which is a lot more than can be said for 3 months ago.

Best squad? An unbalanced/incomplete squad! One loan and one injury away from having no central midfield, still only one goalscorer, one injury prone centre half injury away from no defence and a last minute goalkeeper sale from having a clown in goals. The mess that our squad became over the last 2 seasons isn't solved overnight......

I'm agreeing with both of you, our squad is way better then Benji thinks it is, but he is right about the areas we could improve.
