You're most likely right - the fact Wilson did not consider Stoke is likely the style of play and no guarantee of playing time. I would not be surprised if "not fat but I'll still call him fat" Frank had help from FA convincing him that playing chase ball at the b365 is not ideal for his chances in the next international squad Why would the FA have anything to do with it-when he's Welsh? Sweet FA clearly, doh!

Perhaps Ramsay has had a word?

Hi all, I thought I'd come on here and stick my 2 cent in on the whole Wilson debate - as well as your interest in McClean. Rowett loaned Palmer from Chelsea last season, yet despite showing a ton of ability & potential he never trusted him from the start. He was nothing more than an impact player. It was frustrating to watch, especially as we seemed to stick with Weimann who was miles away in ability. I've mentioned it before, though, Rowett will treat footballers like functional objects. No doubt he's one of the best managers in the league when it comes to organising a team without the ball, but his style is so very pragmatic. I imagine that it's not exactly the most exciting thought when young players are thinking of spending a year out to express themselves. McClean would be a good signing for you under Rowett, absolutely no doubt about that. McClean, beliefs aside, is a hardworker and he has a bit of pace and will be like an upgrade on Weimann. He's not the most technical gifted player in the world, but you'll see that doesn't matter once Rowett implements his system & style. Simply, I feel Wilson will be better for us & McClean will be better for you. Wilson is no doubt technically more gifted, but I doubt Rowett would trust him to do the off-the-ball work that is significant to his tactics. FWIW. This would be an excellent post if we’d signed him. I’ll be interested to know the style Lampards going to play. In the Notts County game, our midfield had more touches of the ball in the first half than they did in the entirety of last season. I jest, of course, but there was definitely an emphasis on getting the ball into midfield. Rowett is very much a move it forward quickly kind of man. He needs wingers that are going to stretch defences. He also needs someone who will be able to pick out a pass behind the opposition full back. Huddlestone from his own half to Weimann or Lawrence was definitely the favoured route. Once the opposition team is stretched enough then space appears. Vydra, who usually sat deeper than the main striker, would then usually reap the rewards. It's emphasis on panic & disorganisation in the opposition. It's actually surprising more managers don't go down this route. It doesn't need good footballers to be successful, just a good fitness level & pace in attacking positions.

No probably about it, he's only got the basic badges. Not necessarily how footballers think there has to be a reason why he’d go to Derby snd your telling me seriously it’s because he knows they haven’t got any good players Stopped clock 😉
