Wallace's piece says that Grant lost his Derby place to Carson. The rumours of a few weeks ago had Rowett considering bringing in Carson. Ironic if Grant's rumoured move is because he's losing his place (AGAIN) to an incoming Carson. Nowadays it's fake news, disinformation, so who but those involved knows.

He's under contract so it must be part of our master plan. Wouldn't want him as our number one, even though he filled in very well for us.

Total guesswork, but Johnstone on loan for a season as No.1 as payback for Grant and an acceptable offer finally coming in for Butland would fit?
God knows who it would be coming in for Butland though?

I imagine they're happy to let him go and get in a replacement on a lower wage. He signed when Butland was injured and we were a bit desperate for a decent keeper, so he'll be on a Premier League first team player's wage that isn't sustainable in the Championship for a reserve keeper.

Bit bizarre. But the area that we could do with getting sorted and settled quickly is the gk and defence.

This has to be bollocks! Jack must be so bummed out! Yeah, I’m sure Butland dreams of being Man Utd’s third choice keeper.

Pleased for him if it's true. I think he's just as good/bad as Jack, they have the same flaws. I was kind of hoping that he'd be our first choice and we shipped Jack out for a premium price and removed his wages.
If we could get Foster that would be excellent but he won't be cheap and we still need to find a buyer for Butland.

God knows who it would be coming in for Butland though? Didn't Southgate suggest players need to be in the PL to be in line for England When... sorry... if... Pickford drops a clanger, then Jack will next in line. But in the Champs, he runs the risk of falling behind 2-3 others over time. How ambitious is he? GK is perhaps the one position you can play for anyone in the PL and still be considered on merit. There is always the option of domino effects. e.g. De Gea to Madrid, Schmeichel/Pickford to Man U, Butland to Leicester/Everton.? Or his price drops a bit - bringing Southampton, Palace into play. Less likely, Brighton/Newcastle could probably offer 10m-12m and a half decent player? (And, obviously, our ultra-savvy commercial team will have spotted the vastly inflated Asian market - and be touting him to Chinese clubs for 50m!)

I'd definitely take Sam Johnstone on loan or even as a perm, also he fits the bill of Championship elite with room for improvement.

Ben foster has little/no affinity for stoke city and didnt enjoy his time here at all. I doubt he'd even contemplate coming here whilst we are in the same division as his current club

I'm paranoid now. Half-suspecting that:- a) they accept b) if it was us bidding, it would start at 5m Could be Carson from Derby? Yep, he'd probably be favourite! Would probably be sound enough at this level. (Especially with our defence and Etobo, which means I'd expect him to be fielding a shot about once every 3 games.) Though might just be a bit of lazy journalism to link Rowett with ex Derby players. We are guessing he left on decent terms... and who knows?! I supsect this window has a few more turns yet.
