In a bidding war it could in theory, that's what he's saying Can it? Suppose Huddersfield and Brighton both bid £12,000,000 for him, and he had a £12,000,000 release clause. We would have to accept both bids and allow Shaqiri to talk to both teams. If Huddersfield were willing to offer him £50,000 a week and Brighton were only willing to offer him £25,000, Brighton wouldn't just be able to increase their bid to £15,000,000 in order to get first dibs. No matter how much Brighton offer, the Shaqiri could talk to anybody who met that minimum release clause, so there's no advantage in making a bid beyond the release clause. You never know, it might not quite be so black and white. Like if it's really even steven one club might be minded to bid a bit more as well as offering Shaq a good deal. But yeah you're probably right, an outright bidding war isn't likely.

Sickening - on tonights evidence - here is a 30m player i thought.
Not many have stood out at this world cup - takes a special player against well organised systems to impose their skill and creativity.
Serbia have some strong midfielders and decent defenders and are as well drilled as anyone, but just couldn't keep Shaq out of the game - and ultimately, he won it with a moment of nerveless precision.

Does this really require another thread. It's been repeated over again why he has a RELEGATION release clause. It was agreed when we signed him, no deal has been signed since therefore remains. Doesn't matter what he's worth that's the amount he will leave for.
Without the clause it is likely he would not have signed in the first place.
Forget about him and move on he will never play a competitive game for Stoke again.

I stopped thinking about Shaqiri a while ago, I suggest you all do the same. He certainly won't be thinking about Stoke City.

Where’s he headed though? I really couldn't care less mate to be honest. Me neither particularly but I’ll still be interested in seeing what type of club will take a chance on him now after successive failures at Bayern, Inter, and now Stoke.

Even though it’s inevitable he’ll be off i’m delighted that a current stoke player has scored at a world cup, as i was 4 years ago when wingie scored.

Reading through Twitter there’s lots of foreign sounding names who no doubt support the big 4 or whoever’s won the title at the time jsaying how he’s too good for us and how Etebu’s made a big mistake joining us. Well at least everyone knows who we are.

He was great for Stoke. A bit injury prone, but his attitude always seemed good, his performances were world class at times. I’m glad he spent some time here. He’s moving on. That’s life. Good luck to the bloke.
In general, I hope he goes overseas. Next season in the Prem will be like last season. Six clubs scrapping for five Euro places and fourteen in a relegation scrap for much of the season. I wonder about the wisdom of him joining the sort of English clubs he’s been linked with.

Shaqiri would disagree with you. He wanted to play CL football with us. We got relegated. I'm sure he would agree he failed.

From there the auction starts. That would be as good as it gets though and I can't see that being the case

Fantastic and very genuine article. It really is a super read. The thing that strikes me most is how a kid from that background can play like he doesnt give a fuck for his team most of the time and how a kid from such a tough environment can grow up to be an absolute fanny.

Stoke fans don't deserve good players. They really don't. Why? Mainly because they wouldn't recognise one if they had one right in front of them. Some daft fuckers have more affection for Lee bastard Hendrie than Shaqiri.

Stoke fans don't deserve good players. They really don't. Why? Because many neither recognise or appreciate good players. I remember similar criticism that Shaq gets being said about Arnautovic when he was here. *I'm slower at typing than Sheik😉

Shaq is undoubtedly a fine player but the key bit is "he's a fine player WHEN HE WANTS TO BE". It's a real shame. When you read the story of his upbringing you'd expect better of him really.
