Celtic interest? Not sure they would have been able to afford him, surely? Don't know if anyone else has responded, haven't checked the entire thread, but Celtics revenue thanks to the CL isn't all that far away from the lower end of the premier league. Their last set of accounts were around £100m revenues, they should be well enough off to compete with most lower half premier league teams for wages, but I expect they will not quite be making such a big song and dance of their revenues when it comes to signing players. Celtic need to keep reaching the group stage for the money to be there. But a stark contrast with Aberdeen who tend to have revenues of around £15m per year. am surprised it's that high

That is fantastic news; well done and thank you Joe. Well done to the Club too.
And to those that are looking for hidden meanings, caveats, saying that he might go, pointing out he's getting more money, etc, those comments are a case of yes, no shit. That is the industry that our football club is in. Nigh on any footballer (or manager) could/would leave their current contract at any time - sometimes its gone against us and sometimes it's worked for us. Joe Allen sticking with Stoke is just plain good news, the sort the professional game doesn't see too often in the Premier League era, and the Club is happy to pay him for his services. Win, win, win.

Allen has taken a massive risk here, but he’ll go down in Stoke history for it. He’s far, far too good fo the championship and hopefully he shines next season alongside Etebo.

It is indeed great news as I am sure he would have been in significant demand elsewhere. His comments about being settled in the area and at a club where he has been very happy sounds to me that he is a level headed well grounded guy...rather unusual for a football. He is undoubtedly a solid Prem player and one of the first names along with Bale on the team sheet for his country. I expect him to be a stand out performer at Champs level

More happy with the signal this sends out to prospective signings rather than the player himself.
But good on you Joe! glad to see some loyalty and some bollocks to back yourself to bring us up.

Amazing news, one of the few players that could hold their head up high and leave knowing he left it all out on the pitch for us last season and he goes and signs a new contract
Absolute legend as far as i'm concerned

This is one of the biggest signings we will make this summer, his presence alone could be huge for us. He's a quality player and doing us a massive favour in reality.
Good stuff.

It great news and as many have said it is a statement of intent from the club and in truth, a real show of ambition. Allen is a player we could easily have cashed in on if we just wanted sales to fund a promotion push and there would have been no shortage of takers.
I still don't see a scenario where Butland stays but if he does, then fair play again to all involved.
The options for shirt numbers for the kids is increasing by the day. 2, 3, 4, 15 & 17 are hopefully now nailed on safe bets.

We have effectively signed a 25m player in the championship that’s a statement of intent

So he's undoubtedly got a release clause for next year if we fail to get promotion.
Is this good or bad?

Maybe Jack not getting the NO. 1 spot has done us a big favour. If he had been given the nod it'd be nailed on that he would go this summer, he'd need to be playing at the top level to maintain the No. 1 spot. However as 2018/19 isn't a tournament season and there doesn't appear to be too much interest from any of the top sides Jack may decide to stay for another season. Surely he would only leave if he was guaranteed a top spot at a top side, it would be a surprise if he accepted a Begovic/Cheslea type situation and became a bench warmer. Just a thought.

It's perhaps fortunate for us that he is Welsh. Being in the Championship shouldn't affect his international prospects, unlike English players. It will be interesting to see if others follow his example, although he was probably only one of about three I would be bothered about keeping.

Again, he's probably had a look at the bigger picture and thought, I'm not good enough to play for a Top 6 club so what's the point? Do I enjoy playing in the Premier League that much or would trying to win The Championship be a greater challenge?

Great news, however if we think about it, it was in his best interest as he will no doubt retain his wage and have a min fee release clause to any prem club instead of only top 6 as was in his previous contract. I fear this could mean he is only here until Jan sadly. I just hope this new fee is beneficial. No chance he would leave in January, If we fail in promotion at the end of the season then maybe. I just cannot see it. He would go now if he was going to jump ship This. I think sensibly it's a deal probably structured as: - His wages have now not taken a drop or only a very minimal drop with bonuses making it level - There's probably a sweet and fat promotion bonus included as a sweetener so if we go up he's effectively earned more as a result - There's a clause that if we aren't promoted he can go at the end of the season for something reasonable like say 20m to a top flight club All things considered if it resembles something like that, it's a mutually beneficial deal. Make no bones about it though, he could have got a pay rise by leaving. He could have also tried to force his way out of the club if he wanted. Today is a good day though. So kudos to the club (Scholes) and Allen.

I have to agree with this. Butland already turned Chelsea down for that exact reason. I would think Jack is heartbroken that he's not England's # 1, and knows our relegation and our ridiculously bad GD has had a huge impact on that. I think if we had stayed up he may have just edged Pickford. Maybe some time out of the spotlight for a year will be good for him?
