Great news, however if we think about it, it was in his best interest as he will no doubt retain his wage and have a min fee release clause to any prem club instead of only top 6 as was in his previous contract. I fear this could mean he is only here until Jan sadly. I just hope this new fee is beneficial. No chance he would leave in January, If we fail in promotion at the end of the season then maybe. I just cannot see it. He would go now if he was going to jump ship

Nice to see there are still some decent footballers around.
Good show of loyalty from Joe there.
We will surely have the highest wages in the Championship? We are putting a lot of our eggs in the promotion basket for the coming year.

I hate how talksport is reporting this --- That he signed because he is settled in the area, killing off speculation he was joining Newcastle. He said a lot more than that and demonstrated loyalty and responsibility for our relegation. I was hoping for some honest reporting and positivity about our rebuild / promotion push

I'm thinking a top 6 club didn't come in so hes inserted a min fee for any prem club. Could be wrong but there will %100 be a min fee in there somewhere.

I promised my lad the new Home shirt with Allen on the back if he signed. I’m just worried he might change his number from 4 to 7???

Excellent news and hopefully an inspiration to other current players not to jump ship, and also for potential new signings to join the club.
Real integrity from an obviously genuine man.

Sometimes in football when things go wrong players try to wash their hands of it but I’m hoping a few more of the lads will have the same target of trying to set the record straight and helping the Club bounce straight back.” and for my money that type of attitude and his commitment shows great strength of character based on the fact he could easily have stayed in teh prem thrown his toys out of the pram and demanded a move.....give him the captaincy Gary Brilliant news for Stoke

Celtic interest? Not sure they would have been able to afford him, surely? I wouldn't have thought so, Haven't they just paid their record amount for a signing which was just £9 million? You would have thought that Joe would have cost a hell of a lot more than that? And don't call me Shirley

Won’t be popular on here but this is mainly due to a huge effort by Tony Scholes over several months Why won’t it be popular ? Assuning your correct and no reason to assume otherwise , he is finally doing his job , as I’ve said elsewhere , someone seems to be finally “ shaking the tree” and credit where credit is due . Until they put us back at the top table I’m afraid redemption is not complete, but all most critics ever asked is they took responsibility and stopped burying their heads in the sand including the bloke paid the most to executive manage the club , if he is doing that great and good luck , he’ll have all the support possible .

Brilliant news for Stoke I don't think Ryan deserves to lose the armband - That would be a massive slap in the face to him if he stayed on at Stoke. But I agree with your other points

Celtic interest? Not sure they would have been able to afford him, surely? Don't know if anyone else has responded, haven't checked the entire thread, but Celtics revenue thanks to the CL isn't all that far away from the lower end of the premier league. Their last set of accounts were around £100m revenues, they should be well enough off to compete with most lower half premier league teams for wages, but I expect they will not quite be making such a big song and dance of their revenues when it comes to signing players. Celtic need to keep reaching the group stage for the money to be there. But a stark contrast with Aberdeen who tend to have revenues of around £15m per year.
