A snippet from a Saints fan mate of mine: "we haven't got a manager at the moment. no news from the club. Rumour has it that it's all done, but that rumour came out a week ago. Some other ITK reckoned that we were sounding out other options. It'll be Hughes, I'm sure."Not just our board who are serial ditherers I was never a "bring on the Championship" type but I have to admit if someone offered me to swap with Southampton now, i.e. scraping survival with Hughes at the helm for the coming season, I'd have to think twice...

No way would I swap for that. In fact I haven’t looked forward to a new season so much in years. Fuck the Premier League ( for now). BM

Where's the dithering from our lot? We're not even at the end of May and we've replaced a manager and are ready to go. It must be Grey Mark that brings on the dithering!

As much as everyone wants to bash Hughes, did anyone notice he kept Saints up whilst we went down without a whimper under Lambert?

As much as everyone wants to bash Hughes, did anyone notice he kept Saints up whilst we went down without a whimper under Lambert? Hughes has always been good at getting tune out of good players who are out of form. But it doesn’t last and he has shown himself incapable of building a sustainable organization. He did well with the players he inherited from Pulis, but the “Stokelona” organization he built was a house of cards that lasted only a short while.

Hughes will finish top 10 next season. Talented squad that massively underachieved won't take much tweaking.....

Hughes will finish top 10 next season. Talented squad that massively underachieved won't take much tweaking..... Of course he will. But I take comfort in the fact the the longer he's there, the sooner he'll dismantle the squad, rid them of any organization, demolish their defense and get found out as the fraud he is. Will make a few years out of someone else's hard work yet again.

Hughes would not have done with us what he did at Soton. He hasn't had enough time to lose the dressing room there yet.....and just wait til he gets his hands on some dosh!!!

As much as everyone wants to bash Hughes, did anyone notice he kept Saints up whilst we went down without a whimper under Lambert? Southampton picked up 8 points from 8 games under Mark Hughes. If we had picked up 1 point a game in the period after he was sacked...................................we would still have been relegated.

To be fair, wasn’t Blackburn pretty much a team he built from scratch?
Glad the blokes gone but he’s no worse than many others, also he did extremely well for Wales too.

Well... maybe, but do you have to take into account the fact that Hughes improved Southampton's points per game a bit? So without him, they may have finished with a point less, meaning we would have survived on 36

As much as everyone wants to bash Hughes, did anyone notice he kept Saints up whilst we went down without a whimper under Lambert? Yes and we all noticed the pile of aging shit and total wasters he left for Lambert was far worse than the squad he walked into at St Mary's I'm sure if we had just had Tadic here Lambert would have kept us up never mind Redmond Austin Giabbiadini Ward-Prowse Bertrand who would all stroll into our team

We should have stayed up but to be fair to Lambert, our squad was an absolute bag of crap not to mention the holiday camp/circus going on behind the scenes. Hughes had much better players to work with at Southampton.

Old 2/3 seasons Hughes. Gets teams to lofty position using existing squad. Gets his own transfers in and it goes pear shaped big time.
Can't wait for it to happen to Southampton.

To be fair a bloody big portion of the players that played well to get us to lofty positions were the ones he signed. Arnie/Shaq/Wingie/Bojan etc

He certainly won't get the loyalty he had from the Coates family.

Gabbiadini at wing back and some inspired signing like Berahino and Wimmer and they'll soon be up there. I dont think he'll gt the job but if he does he wont last long

I agree, my point is people slaughter the pizza boys in one thread for the transfers, next thread it’s all Hughes. I think it’s about time people realise some players are bought without the managers approval

I think it’s about time people realise some players are bought without the managers approval I'm not sure anyone at Stoke was. I don't think most transfer structures like this work that way. They're driven by the manager, he has his own targets and own ideas, and the others makes suggestions based on the positions and attributes he's looking for to supplement them.

Pulis never did when the Icelandics bought him players.
