Massive game. Those just above us all have much tougher games on paper, so winning this one could give us a big lift. Psychologically, a win would do us the world of good, too. I don't even wan't to contemplate losing it. Assuming Shawcross is still out and we don;t make any additions before the weekend, I would go with this. Butland Bauer Zouma Martins Indi Peiters Ireland Allen Adam Shaqiri Ramadan Diouf Bench: Grant Crouch Choupo-Moting Fletcher Wimmer Edwards Berahino Cameron Let's just grind out a win, relieve the stress a bit and then focus on doing what business we can to support the new gaffer. We clearly need to spend in several areas including left back, central midfield, striker, and IMO both wings need to be addressed. Shaq is a far better number 10 than he is right winger, and neither Choupo-Moting or Ramadan have done enough to make the left wing spot their own. IT's a lot to ask, and I doubt we'll address all of those areas in January, but let's hope we can at least bring in 2-3 quality additions. Bauer looks like he could be exactly what we need, so at least thats a start. No matter who we play, we have to play one of the two available defensive mid-field players or we’ll be overrun. That means either Cameron or Fletcher have to start.

Fletcher brings absolutely nothing to the role.

The most important game in the season. On paper it isn't but psychologically it absolutely is. Win and follow it up with key signings then a lot of (self created) negativity will lift. Lose and different story. And the most winable of the fifteen games we have left.

Huddersfield may set up differently on Saturday but in the recent game at their place I said at the time that I have never seen a team so tactically naive.
They used a high press on us to take the initiative. At best it was just a throw of the dice. They thought to themselves 'these are shit, we will get on top of them'. But they don't have any quality at all throughout their team. And at the back they don't have pace. About 3 or 4 times we nearly got through on 1 v 1 with the keeper. A simple ball between centre back and full back with attackers peeling off the shoulder exposed them every time.
Our lack of any game plan was evident in that game. We failed to exploit it.
West Ham did exploit it last time out, thrashing huddersfield on their own turf. Huddersfield again tried to press high.
Stoke have to hope that huddersfield are just as naive and press up the pitch. If they do we have to use our brains and have Choupo and Shaqiri, or one other, always looking to run off the shoulder of their centre backs, and we need to be direct and look for that ball all the time. Huddersfield don't have the quality to be playing that game.
That said, they will surely not be so stupid to do that again having just been thrashed by west ham, I would expect they will defend deep and set up for a point and bank on our shit defence gifting them something.
I don't know, I would probably set up stoke on Saturday by playing Diouf up top with shaq and choupo, all looking for balls in behind, I think huddersfield WILL be naive and WILL look to be aggressive and play a high line, thinking that we are so shit we will just fold

I actually think Ireland is the key player for us as he is good at linking the play from the sitting two midfielders and I think that is why we looked half decent first half v United?
We have not had the position covered all season and hence resorted to lumping it up to Crouch. I hope the fullback situation is now covered and the centre halves stay fit for the run in.

Same lineup as United for me, except Diouf up top for Crouch, Stafylidis in for Tymon if fit and if Pieters is still out, and Ryan in for Zouma if fit.

We cant play Berahino. He’s had enough chances. Douif gets in far more scoring positions, he has to start with his pace
Crouch to come on with 20 miutes left if we are desperate

Diouf.
I'd probably chose Ramadam above Choupo only because of Choupo's painful fawning over Pogba on Monday.

Zouma (presuming Ryan hasn't trained for ages) Ryan had Hughes in his pocket, just like Pulis. They would both pick him whether he was fit or not. It's important the new manager doesnt fall into that trap. As I've said before I think Ryan can still play a part for us, even though his form and fitness are on a downward spiral. But he has to be fully fit, otherwise he panics in games, when his defending doesnt work, and make stupid fouls in or just outside the box which leads to goals and loss of points,as it has done several times already this season, Meanwhile Zouma, Cameron, Wimmer and fatty Bruno when they have played have been exemplary and not cost any goals. Ffs!
