This is how i see it
18 games to go. - We have currently no manager & third from bottom. Expecting a manager earliest next week, man united a write off (leaves 17 games)
Obviously Eddie will probably help the new manager with team selections for a few weeks, + realistically he's only not going to know (presuming he comes in next week) is not going to know where we need to strengthen until the last week of the window this leaves limited options for us.
That means were basically sticking with the same team for the remainder of the season, barring bauer and hopefully Bojan and Muni back on recall.
A draw at Huddersfield at home.
16 games left to go. Going to take him another month or so to drill home new tactics and structure and also learn who is the strongest in certain positions.
This leaves 12 games to fight for survival. We could be quite far adrift before we even start to pull off performances. In my opinion we are in serious trouble and need some luck to keep us in the league.
Mark Hughes has left us in a shocking position and should of been fired after west ham to give the new manager a fair throw at the dice.

The bottom eight sides are in a running race where tripping and elbows are allowed. We have every right to expect us to use means fair and foul to stay up. If the new manager gels with the squad, we could and should stay up Ron, but it will be a right up until and after Easter no doubt Brian.
Back to the studio...

48 points to play for. We are not cut adrift at all. We are on the same points as the team sat above us .
Southampton and Bournemouth will be in more shit than we will.
Have some faith.

Jan after Man U and Feb a big periods so whoever they bring in will need to have a virtually instant impact due to the way the fixtures have fallen .
If they can that might help build the coinfidence for us to pick up a few points in the tougher games .
If we get to the end of Feb in the bottom three I would expect us to drop .

I know we are not cut adrift right now, i didn't say that. We are possibly the worst team in the league right now. That's my concern

Just got worse right?! haha. From what you are saying, you don't expect any new manager to win a game in his first month?! Apart from top clubs, most clubs only change manager when things aren't going well, like in our case. Normally you do see an uplift in fortunes right away. That happened for Puel, Hodgson, Carvahal... Very amusingly NOT for Pardew. Point is, whoever comes in, you would expect to see us pick up a few points, especially with the 6 games coming up after united. Then we get to 12 games to go, but with a little more light at the end of the tunnel. My head says we will be ok, my heart says we're doomed... But that is life as a Stokie right!

There are plenty of examples where a new manager makes an immediate impact, and plenty where they have no impact whatsoever. You're assuming it will take him x amount of time to change things but it might not... it could be as simple as the players no longer believed in Hughes and the new guy gives them belief / a kick up the arse.
We're definitely in trouble and should have acted sooner, but the fact is he should have (if appointed quickly enough) 18 games to make a difference. Every game and point counts, even the Man Utd one.
A 30%+ win% keeps us up.

(shaqiri etc) Majority of the blame is on coates for not sacking him earlier, sadly.

I applaud the "we" in the thread title.
It is important for everyone associated with the club we are all in this together and it needs everyone pulling together to get out of the situation we are in.
When we went to Huddersfield everyone was struck with how they get behind their team; we need to do the same and give the team that extra boost they need to succeed.

We need the equivalent of 6 wins out of 16 games, which is not a huge improvement on what we have so far. Our problem was we were adrift and shipping goals. First thing has to be to get some clean sheets, gain confidence and start winning. At least a clean sheet gives us 1 point, ideally all 3 points.
We need to play as a team, which we haven't been able to and regain our confidence This will take a manager with discipline and the vision to get the best out of what is a quality squad of individuals

As it stands now we are in trouble, a lot of trouble. We are relegation material and our squad has no direction. All the stats point towards the Premier League exit door too.
Our managerial vacancy has to be filled with someone that can hit the ground running, we need it I think.
This isn't some depressive neysaying crap either, we need to get it together now and turn it around. Everybody. Otherwise we are done at this level.

I don't like the sound of this from Kevin Russell in todays pre match presser
"Monday was a little bit difficult, Tuesday they had off to get their heads around it. They’ve improved over the week. There are players in the changing room who haven’t been through anything like this before. The club is in a bad position at the moment and needs to get up the table but there is enough here to know that when we get it right we will move up quickly."

Why is everyone writing Man U off. In my eyes no chance of 3points but with our recent record against Mourinho we could get a draw!

I don't know if it is "writing it off" as such, more that there is no expectation to get anything much at united, other than a hiding. You are right, if players respond to the LMH sacking and we keep it tight for half an hour, you never know what could happen. Realistically though, the hard work begins on Tuesday morning in terms of turning this shitship around.

When my boss has been sacked at work, i don't get the day off. And judging by how we've performed for the last 22 games every fucking game has been a day off for them. At least we have someone with balls to admit how they are feeling instead of the old grey monotone voice day in day out.

Regarding how we will fare in the new manager's first month. I did some research on this back when the wheels came off in TP's last season. There is enough data to suggest that teams are able to get decent results after a managerial change. In fact, at that time, about 65% of teams making a mid-season change saw their PPG improve or stay the same over the six games after the change compared to the six games prior to the change.
As another poster pointed out back then, at least some of that improvement is likely due to regression to the mean (the explanation is complicated, but the poster was correct). But there really isn't anything to suggest a team should expect to do worse as the new manager settles in.

The good thing though is so are at least another 3 or four clubs. Swansea and WBA are certainly worse off than us at the moment. Southampton are no better off than us Bournemouth , Palace, Brighton and Huddersfield are all still well within reach. How many of our players start playing under a new manager is the issue as for sure some have not reached expected levels so far this season and they know it. Wish I could see this "Great plan for the future" that's being touted by Gollem Ballbag

Good point, i cant see us doing any worse, losing at home to wolves, west ham and Newcastle, and away at Coventry in league 2 is about as bad as it gets. I'm just not sure the new manager has enough time to do it.

The rest are tough games against teams in a similar position. We need at least 16 points from the other 10, which translates to 1.6 points per game - a record we have not achieved in quite some time. We need four wins, four draws and two losses from those 10 games. Tough but not impossible IF we can get someone in who can 1) organize the defense 24/25 times the team with worst GD goes down) and b) motivate the players.

Well we got a Right-Back in at least.
Just need a manager, a new CEO/transfer team, a mobile defensive midfielder, and a mobile striker who can score.
Then fix Shaq who looks about as interested in Stoke as my Dad
Get Wimmer out of the team.
Get Berahino out of Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.
Do some defensive training
Do some fitness training
Improve the moral of the team
Hope there are 3 worse teams than us
Theres quite a lot to do.......
