This was in a Telegraph article about the use of managerial scouting - "No club would add to their squad without watching a player, without pouring over his data and analysis, without doing their background checks and compiling their reports; without asking themselves if he will fit in to what they want to do. And without doing all of this well in advance of signing him".
I think I know one that would.

The rationale for buying Wimmer was to have options for the left sided CB in a back 3. Ryan, Cameron and Zouma can all play on the right and all 5 can play in the middle. Buying Wimmer ment that we have a good set of CBs for a back 3. The problem is we don't have any wingbacks at all. We continue to concede silly goals against poor teams because we cannot defend the edges of our CBs. There is no understanding whatsoever of how to play the system properly. Opposition teams have sussed that by playing balls across the CBs rather than into the centre they can find huge spaces and total uncertainty in our defence. The CBs are all decent defenders. Pieters is a decent LB. Diouf is the best striker at the club. We should not be playing 3-4-3. Excellent summary. Thinks can Sparky jump horses now and go to 4-4-2? I'm not sure. Last season he was accused of meddling with the system on a weekly basis, so instead he now has all his eggs in the 3-4-3 basket, he's a proud man too, I'm not sure which way this will go.

There is a really interesting story about how we came to sign imbula. It was very similar, almost identical in fact, to how we came to sign mama sidibe. Then again, I'm sure you'll know that as your mate would have told you.

He is reasonably athletic and not a bad passer of the ball, I wonder if he could play as a DM when Bruno is fit?

That is NOT allowed under Oatcake rules Wimmer can never be said to have had a good game regardless of how well he played.

Did good. Wasn't a liability like most matches since his debut. Hopefully he turns it around for a run. He attacked a few balls in with his head diving forward, he looked like a CB in those instances. Still has time to improve his physicality and presence and I hope he does just that as we'll need him.

Agree -as one of his biggest critics I thought he did well today Looks much happier in a 4 (like most of our players)

Pleasantly surprised by Wimmer today, he actually won a couple of heading duels and both feet left the ground on each occasion.

He did well today. I’m a big BMI fan but it’s interesting that Pieters was 100 times better second half than first with Wimmer alongside.
