One excuse trotted out not to replace the clearly clueless and casual Hughes, is that there are no replacements available,
So here’s a shortlist to start with. Feel free to add others:
Giggs Rowett Pardew Allardyce Tuchel Laudrup Moyes Coleman Mazzarri Blanc Shearer Shakespeare Phelan Crooks
although as others have pointed out, maybe Adam could step up?

Maybe a manager who played his football as a defender? The majority of current Premiership managers are either defenders or midfielders, even though Hughes was a very successful player

Bill shankley
Brian clough
Bobby robson
Anyone of them would be more animated than Hughes

Giggs Zero Experience. Rowett Good Shout....English, Young, but no Prem Experience Pardew Absolutely not...Horrible little whinger. Allardyce Yes, good shout, good at our level... Tuchel Don't know hime. Laudrup Doubt he'd leave Qatar TBH. Moyes No way...Washed up has been. Coleman Yes...In a heartbeat. But he is Welsh. Mazzarri Bom't Know Him Blanc Don't Know Him Shearer No...Zero experience apart from a few games for Toon...Too comfy as a pundit. Shakespeare Yes...I'd take him... Phelan Not sure if having half a season with relegated Hull is good to have on yr CV Crooks...What....Seriously...Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Gary Neville....Would be Ok ish. Could bring a few names with him.... Stuart Pearce...Would get the respect from the players, but maybe been away a bit too long. Ancelotti....Doubt he'd come, prob has eyes on a return to Serie A Sean Dyche...Would he leave burnley. Gary Monk...Horrible little man, but did reasonably well at Leeds... Other than that I don't really know...

Giggs - Relegation Rowett - Relegation Pardew - LOL Allardyce - Could do a job, but would only want him here till end of season Tuchel - Who? Laudrup - Not British so will not an option Moyes - Relegation Coleman - Relegation Mazzarri - See Laudrup Blanc - See Laudrap And the response to the last four - You have got to be feckin kidding Shearer - Shakespeare Phelan Crooks Hardly any of them have any prem experience, some of them have little or no management experience full stop. Half of your list do not want to manage even if we asked them, It's a list that scares me death quite frankly - certainly not an argument for plenty to choose from.

Edit...Googled Blanc....That's a hell of a record at PSG...Why id they get rid. Also google Tuchel, still never heard of him, but had a decent record at Dortmund.

I'd take Big Sam right now but I can't think of anyone else who I'd bother sacking Hughes for. Sam would at least get us organised and playing in a defined way, it's hap hazard nonsense under Hughes and you get absolutely nowhere in this game without continuity of selection. The changes of personel and formation week to week is rank bad management.

Blanc was PSG manager but I don't think he's had a job since leaving last summer. Tuchel was the Dortmund manager for a couple of seasons and he underchieved massively imo with the talent he had at his disposal. Not as good as he thinks he is.

Looking at his Wiki Page Blanc got 22 Million Euros severance pay, so yeah, that may explain why he is not working, having said that when these managers are as minted as that it is not for the money they seek success, more for the glory and the legacy.

Maybe we could temp Alex Ferguson out of retirement haha You’ve hardly helped the ‘who else is there’ debate mate. That is literally just a list of men. I’m not averse to a change but if Giggs, Shearer, Phelan and Shakespeare are contenders I’d give Sparky a new iron-clad 50-year deal.

A lot of the dross on that list have done sod all other than one or so reasonable seasons... or have done nothing!! But then again Pulis came out of nowhere and ultimately took us to arguably our most successful period in the club's history.
I think the complication and stumbling block could be're also up against Leicester and likely West Ham very soon to compete.... depending how you look at it we could be only 3rd choice seen from any job seeking managers perspective.
Therefore I think Coates has to have his replacement sealed before he gets rid else we could end up with quite a few on here very very disappointed with the name brought in

Koeman would be nice.
Plucking Arteta from Pep's side at Man City could be a wildcard, but unlikely. Ditto Vieira from NYC (?).

Trying to think of options that are realistic and not absolutely horrible, I've so far got:
Allardyce Jokanovic Galtier (ex St Etienne, now clubless) Michael O'Neill
Wagner (long shot)

Allardyce in the short term to keep us up..
Then Gary Rowett might be a good shout..
Coates won't go for anyone without any experience managing in the English leagues...hence such a depressing list.
My ideal scenario was Hughes would sort his head out over the pre season. After one or two encouraging signs though he appears to be back to square one.
His time is up I feel.

Should have gone for silva when we had the chance.
Could we tempt clement? Ditto Benitez? I’d take Rowett however I think it’s 1/2 years too early, if he gets derby up and stays for the year he’d be an option.
