There’s several managers with PL experience we can probably rule out: those that have been recently fired because they will have a signed a non-compete clause as part of their severance package. No team is going to fire a manager and allow them to use everything they know about the team they have just left: strengths, weaknesses etc. It’s naive to assume that ex-managers spend 6-12 months after they get fired sitting on the beach. They have wait until the non-compete period expires or get a job in another league. I'm not sure that those type of "clauses" are actually legal here in the UK. They can be signed and agreed, but enforcing them is pretty nigh impossible. I wouldn’t be so sure about that. TP tried to mess with the owners of CP and got handed his lunch. Owners have much deeper pockets than managers when it comes to paying legal fees and understand contracts a lot better as well.

Haven't read all the thread but does anyone think he'll resign? Surely he can see it's all going wrong but I'm guessing there'd be no compension to pay which is why he's hanging on.

Some find him to be a nice polite chap who does a bit of work in the local community. Seems to be enough to keep him in a job.

Tuchel believes that he would be a perfect fit in Stoke-on-Trent, a place of high culture and great testicles.Should Tuchel go for the English pigs, the question of compensation is one that needs to be considered. BVB hopes at least € 500,000 and the secret recipe for oatmeal, which will connect them with green cabbage. What are we waiting for? Go get him Pete

And yet he is out of work. A deal until the end of season or a release clause if a champions league club come in for him?

Posted in another thread but:
Gary Rowett. Current derby manager who's has awesome spells bringing Burton into the championship and had Birmingham pushing for promotion before the owners decided to see him off. He's class but not well known.

Allardyce - his heart or head isn't in it anymore. Failed at Palace. Coleman - different league since he left. Massive risk. Moyes - see Allardyce. Mancini - no chance. When was the last time a manager left a club to join a team in the same league without being sacked? Because no available managers will help us Can you just elaborate on how Allardyce failed at Palace?

Seems a pretty good summation of the options. Doubt Hughes is going anywhere quite yet though.

Our owners and the fuckwit CEO haven't the imagination to appoint a manager who would bring us into the modern world of football. They're shit scared of someone calling them out.

Sad but true The whole club just seems in denial of what is staring them in the face X2 -32m spent on the top end Of the team this summer sent us crashing from poor to utterly woeful relegation certs whoever made the decision to do that , or didn't have the desire or ability to deliver replacements of the right calibre And know that would cost at least £32m probably more , is accountable for this the worst squad in our premier league history and the £100 m loss in revenue m the well run myth exploded forever .

Our owners and the fuckwit CEO haven't the imagination to appoint a manager who would bring us into the modern world of football. They're shit scared of someone calling them out. I think they wanted Hughes to do that. I actually think they wanted Pulis to do it before Hughes, but Pulis was hard wired the wrong way and after reverting to type, he was shipped out. I think our owner is ambitious, but pragmatic. He gives his managers time to succeed. I don’t think Coates will do anything this season as long as he is confident that we will not get relegated - and it is too early to panic about that. But Hughes has been in position for five years. It is twice as long as most Premiership managers usually get. This season is likely to the one where he gets a more fundamental performance review and I don’t see it going well. Like Pulis, he started well and then it stopped working. That was why Pulis went. I cannot see Coates acting any differently with Hughes. Unless we have a startling u-turn and finish in the top half of the table, Hughes is going to be gone. Who replaces him and what kind of revolution it brings is a different question. I don’t see it being too radical. Coates is not that kind of a risk taker. It is likely to be a safe pair of hands rather than a death or glory appointment.

The only reason that I can think is that his name fits nicely in the Barmy Army Chant
"Mark Hughes barmy army, Mark Hughes barmy army"
Other than that no reason what so ever
