Maybe I'm being naive but Joselu really shouldn't cause us any problems. Hasn't got the pace or power to get the better of any of our CBs.. but football doesn't work like that does it?! Unfortunately. Very naive as he is still better than any of our strikers How's that relevant to facing our defence though?.. which is on another planet to Newcastle's.

Joselu, unless he has suddenly developed more pace and power, and a good deal more urgency to his play, should be meat and drink for Bruno, Kurt and Kev.
Other than Bruno for Cameron, I would play the same starting XI. Yes, Jese is not totally match fit yet, but he still provides more threat in bursts than Saido does with all the huffing and puffing he does. He scored v the Arse and would have done v Man U without a world class save denying him. He deserves a few games against the lesser lights of the league to see if he can look even more of a threat in games when we will be the better team and, hopefully, he can notch a few more.

This is how im hoping it pans out:
Stoke win and we see that the only reason we've already not got more points is becasue of the high standard of opposition we have faced. newcastle lose because despite having 6 points, they have played a poor swansea and a poor west ham who have gifted them points. whereas we have worked hard for our 5 points against last seasons top 8.

Not to dampen the spirits but I reckon we could turn in a proper Stoke performance here. After a surprisingly good start to the season, I can see us just being a bit shit. I'll go for another draw, maybe even a 0-0. Not to dampen any spirits though!

The level of confidence on this thread imediately sets my personal alarm bells ringing - we will almost certainly be playing the ref aswell as the opposition in this one and it's never been a lucky ground for us. If we were to get a win I think it would really be a good indication that we could be a top 10 club this season.

Very naive as he is still better than any of our strikers How's that relevant to facing our defence though?.. which is on another planet to Newcastle's. Joselu doesn't rely on pace and power, but he does seem to get his goals from clever movement and waiting to pounce on defending errors. He's still got a chance against us because no defence is without errors. To me he's the exact opposite of Lukaku in terms of playing style; not much pace and power, but unlike Lukaku, he has a brain to help make up for it.

Agreed, as one will be needed to have recovered by the week after when Zouma cannot play against Chelsea.

We will hit them on the break and cut through them at will.
It will be such a crushing loss for them that Rafa will be on one of those "Can you spare £3" adverts.

Spot on Jezza. We know Joselu and despite his couple of goals in pre-season I don't think he's at all suited for the Prem. Any three of Ryan, BMI, Zouma or Wimmer should easily keep him quiet. Jese will get better each game he plays and there is no justification for dropping him at this early stage. I fancy us for 3 points if we continue to play in the same way we have since the start of the season

Butland
Zouma - Wimmer- BMI
Diouf- Allen- Fletcher- Pieters
Shaq- Jese- Choupo Moting SUBS Berahino at 60 minutes for whichever of front 3 looks least up for it. Sobhi at 70 minutes for whichever of Diouf/Pieters looks most knackered.

From what I've seen so far I think we are a better team than Newcastle and are more than capable of beating them, However we are still a side finding its feet and at this stage of development are very likely to be prone to inconsistency - last weeks excellent performance could quite easily be followed by something quite average, Given Newcastle have had a couple of confidence boosting results, admittedly against poor opposition, and its not a happy hunting ground for us I'm going for a draw. Having said that if we click upfront we could batter them.

Tricky away game for me this one. The fans aren't as deluded as they used to be either. Probably tempered from the relegation and the fact Ashley didn't give Rafa ANOTHER shit load of cash on top of the £75+ million he had last year! They have good players too like Richie and Diame that I rate and a lad up top that has a HUGE point to prove. Gutted to not be going this one, first one I've missed this year and I hate it when I have a break! I would take a point happily! £75m? Where'd you pull that figure from? Benitez spent £55m on 11 players for the championship, and £37m on 6 players this summer. Hardly largesse in Premier League terms. diame has been pretty shocking to be honest, a poor mans Sissoko quality-wise. He puts in a bit of effort and scored one of the flukiest goal I've ever seen, but he isn't great. Fancy us beating them myself. When was the last time Newcastle won 3 Premiership games on the bounce?. 2014, I think. ... but our flair players should be relishing this - it will be an open game as Newcastle will be trying to attack and we are quick on the break.... We don't play open mate. Benitez has us well drilled, and compact. We harass and harry, look to break, but build all of that on a solid, compact defence. Against West Ham we had something like 37% possession, Swansea 38%, but in neither game gave up many real chances to the opposition. It'll be interesting to see who Benitez picks for the game against Stoke. Lascelles was superb against a poor Swansea side, but he's always prone to an error (Abraham's opportunity came through his mistake) so he may be replaced by Lejeune. Shelvey is available, but Merino has been very good, and improving in every game. He pocketed the highly rated Sanches against Swansea and was impressive in our comfortable victory against West Ham. So far for NUFC in the Premier League he has the most passes (150), most tackles won (8), most interceptions (7) and most take ons (6). Yedlin and Gayle should both be available for selection too. fwiw I think it'll be Elliott Manquillo Lascelles Clark Gamez Hayden Merino Ritchie Shelvey Atsu Joselu Not the best 11 I've seen pull on the black and white strip, but under rated by the media thus far. It'll be tight, scrappy affair. Last on Match of the Day unless West Brom v West Ham lives up to expectations. Under 1.5 goals is 2/1 on PaddyPower and I'd put money on that if I were you. If there is a winner, it won't be football.

I think Stoke will be more expansive, more attacking than you are expecting I hope you do try and stretch the game, it'll make for a more interesting game. Have you been aiming for expansive football thus far? All I've seen is highlights and (mostly because of the opposition) you've not looked like an expansive team. If that's the case I'd expect you to have plenty of possession in your own half, and we'll aim to draw you out to hit you on the counter. Not a lighting fast striker charging into space left behind the back line, but an attack that tries to create an opportunity before your defence have reorganised. If, as I expect it will be, it's two teams happy enough permitting the opposition to have unthreatening possession, it'll be a bit of a stalemate. Settled, if at all, by a moment of quality, a set piece or a calamitous error.

Definitely! Last time we went a place with strippers and games which was good. Anywhere else you would recommend? I think you're talking about Sam Jacks, which is closed these days I'm afraid. The Vault in the Bigg Market might still be doing pre-match "dancers", but I've not been in for a while. If you're getting the train up, there's a couple of pubs you can hit up. Should be busy with your travelling hordes; the Union Rooms is out the station to the right. Across the road from the "Royal Station Hotel". If you don't fancy that, can't get in or whatever, you can try the Mile Castle. Cross the road out the station, go up the street across from the station with Starbucks on the corner (it's got a statue of a bloke lying on his elbow). Cross the road and it's the massive building on the corner. both of those should be busy, have plenty of away fans in and sell lots of beer for not much. If you fancy somewhere quieter you can try the Forth Hotel, though they're not keen on colours, (up the lane with the Greggs on the corner opposite the station), if you've plenty of time beforehand head down to the Crown Posada down Dean Street, near to the Quayside. Proper boozer. To be honest, if I were you I'd make a weekend of it. Newcastle is always a quality night out, not that expensive, and as long as you make it clear your red and white stripes are of Staffordshire's premier team and not of our local... "rivals", you'll get a warm welcome.
